Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve financial literacy and family financial management skills based on priority scales among housewives in the pandan mat weaving artisan community in Sei Balai District, Batubara Regency, North Sumatra Province. The main problems faced by the community partners included limited understanding of simple financial record-keeping, the absence of separation between business and household finances, and low saving habits due to fluctuating income levels. The implementation method employed a participatory approach through observation, lectures, interactive discussions, household budgeting practices, and simple financial recording training. The results of the activity indicated that participants experienced an improvement in their understanding of the importance of distinguishing between needs and wants, arranging expenditure priorities, and developing saving habits as well as preparing family emergency funds. In addition, participants also began to recognize the importance of financial record-keeping as an effort to control household expenditures more effectively and efficiently. Abstract

This community service activity is motivated by the increasing volume of household plastic waste that has not been optimally managed, thus potentially polluting the environment. Utilizing inorganic waste, especially used plastic bottles, as a planting medium is a simple solution to reduce pollution while increasing community creativity. This activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills in utilizing used plastic bottles as a useful and economically valuable planting medium container. The Women Farmers Group (KWT) participated in this activity on May 1, 2026 in Gempol Sari Village, Sepatan Timur District, Tangerang Regency, Banten Province. Participatory Action Research (PAR) strategies were used to carry out implementation techniques, which included socialization, training, direct practice, mentoring, and assessment. Pre- and post-activity tests were given and evaluated using Paired Sample T-Tests to assess the activity. After participating in the training, the level of participant understanding increased, in accordance with the results of the activity. Participants' knowledge increased significantly through this exercise, as indicated by a significant increase in their average post-test score from 92.86 to 78.57 (p < 0.05). In addition, participants were able to independently practice making simple planting media from used plastic bottles. This activity has positive implications for increasing environmental awareness and community creativity, as well as supporting economic empowerment and sustainable environmental management efforts.

Abstract

Organic waste generated from daily activities in schools has the potential to cause environmental problems if not properly managed. Based on observations at SMAN 1 Kabila, organic waste such as dry leaves, grass, and food residues was not optimally utilized and was generally disposed of or burned. This community service activity aimed to improve students' knowledge and skills in processing organic waste into compost using Effective Microorganism 4 (EM4), while also fostering environmental awareness. The activity was conducted at SMAN 1 Kabila and involved students through educational and mentoring approaches, including lectures, demonstrations, hands-on composting practices, and evaluation. The materials used consisted of dry leaves, cow manure, EM4, glucose solution, and water. The results showed that students were able to understand the composting process and actively participate in each stage, including material preparation, mixing, fermentation, and packaging. In addition to producing compost fertilizer, the activity enhanced students’ awareness of the importance of organic waste management and environmental conservation within the school environment. Therefore, education and mentoring on compost production can serve as an effective environmental learning strategy to support sustainable organic waste management in schools.

Abstract

Children as perpetrators of criminal acts are certainly obliged to be responsible for their actions that have caused harm to others. However, in being responsible for their actions in the Special Correctional Institution for Children, they also need to receive moral guidance to shape their character so that they can behave well during their sentence and when they return to society after serving their sentence. This way, they can socialize well, having gained an understanding of good character formation during their sentence, ensuring they will not commit crimes again. Therefore, the implementation of social rehabilitation to form a quality character for child criminals through community service activities is very important to be carried out. These activities will help restore their social abilities, enabling them to adapt once again and play a positive role in community life. By doing so, they can contribute to society and avoid reoffending, leading to their successful reintegration into the community.
