Abstract

This study aims to know; 1) Background to the establishment of a religious statue of the Jesus statue in the village of Buntu Burake, Makale District, TanaToraja Regency; 2) Status and social role of the community around religious tourism objects before and after the construction project of Jesus statue religious tourism object in the dead-end village of Makale, Makale District, Tana Toraja Regency; 3) Impact of the socio-economic conditions of the community around the statue of the religious object of Jesus in the village of Buntu Burake, Makale District, Tana Toraja Regency. This study uses a type of qualitative research with descriptive type. The data collection technique was obtained by field research which included observation, documentation, and interviews involving 10 people who were included in the criteria of informants, namely the former Head of Burake, Lurah Burake, Burake community leaders, and the Burake community. The results of this study indicate that; 1) the establishment of a religious statue of a Jesus statue is the result of a government and community inspired by religious ceremonies and religious symbols in the Christian community, which in the process also adheres to the traditional rules that apply in the local community; 2) the status and social role of the community in Burake sub-district both before and after the construction of a statue of a religious statue of Jesus still has the same view that the community is not distinguished, either for people who have economic standards that are more or less people who have high social status based on descent, because based on the trust of the local community they are a family originating from the same family house (tongkonan); 3) the impact of the socio-economic conditions of the people of Burake before and after the construction project of the religious statue of Jesus statue is a clearly visible change in the economic condition of the Burake community which has increased and also the conditions around them where there has been an increase in the quality of their welfare public infrastructure for the local community.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) find out the role of Panrita Lamming in marriage in the South Galesong community, (2) find out how the views of the South Galesong community are related to the existence of Panrita Lamming, and (3) find out the existence of Panrita Lamming in the modern era. This study uses qualitative data and is descriptive in nature. The data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews, and documentation methods involving as many as 8 informants. The results of this study indicate that: (1) Panrita Lamming is believed to have the advantages of prayer and knowledge so that he gets a role in society as traditional leader and ritual leader. (2) The community in general still believes in the benefits that can be obtained after using Panrita Lamming. Some people also think that this ritual is a habit of the parents that needs to be preserved, regarding whatever happens after the ritual is the power of Allah SWT. In addition, the public view from a religious perspective argues that this ritual is not in line with religious teachings, so it needs to be repaired or abandoned, and (3) The reasons for Panrita Lamming's continued existence are due to the growing belief in the ritual, and there is still confidence in the impact under Panrita Lamming.

Abstract

This article contains the results of research on the position and role of the Malay People in the Kingdom of Gowa. The presence of Malays and then occupy an important position in this area is inseparable from the application of open-door politics of the Kingdom of Gowa-Tallo. Thus, Malay traders were accepted and made trade relations with local residents and other ethnic immigrant. The long journey of social relationships that exist between elements of society then unite them in various forms of relationships. The existence of Malay in Makassar, then brought significant changes, marked their role in various important positions such as: head of port (syahbandar), clerk on the kingdom of Gowa and also appeared as an announcer of Islamic teachings. Experts such as blacksmiths, goldsmiths, home builders, construction experts, chopsticks makers, metal-making artisans, masons, masons, and pemental ropers are part of the Malay-Makassar relationship.

Abstract

This study aims to find out about Passapu as the identity of Kajang Tribe men and the meaning of using Passapu for Kajang Tribe men. This study uses qualitative data. The informants were selected through the Kajang Tribe traditional holders, Kajang Tribe men who use passapu in their daily life and the Kajang Tribe community who know about passapu. Data was collected by means of observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study show: 1) Passapu is the identity of the completeness of the traditional clothing of the Kajang Tribe. The traditional clothing of the Kajang Tribe for men is a shirt in the form of a black shirt, black or white shorts, black sarong and a passapu or headband. The hallmark of the clothing worn by men of the Kajang tribe lies in the headgear (passapu). Self-identity that people who can use passapu are Kajang tribe men who have grown up and know their spouses. 2) The meaning of using passapu for men from the Kajang tribe has a symbol of honesty and maturity. The symbol of honesty and maturity has the meaning of how we are able to control our thoughts to do good or evil in accordance with the life guidelines of the pairs of ri kajang. It has meaning in each element in the passapu, and has several functions, namely practical functions, aesthetic functions, and symbolic and philosophical functions.

Abstract

Urbanization in developing countries began since World War II, as well as a starting point for the occurrence of industry. This phenomenon is the reverse condition of developed industrial countries. This paper discusses how urbanization is happening in Makassar City as the capital of South Sulawesi Province. Just like other cities, the rapidly increasing population of Makassar has caused urbanization to be unequally distributed. This phenomenon can be seen in the problems of residential space which shows that the development pattern of Makassar City is not yet ready to respond to the drastically increasing population. How does the urban system plan accommodate various community interests and their implications? From this question will be analyzed the causes of the government's inability to manage excessive urbanization, including accepting, regulating, and utilizing the potential of the migrant population.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the function of the values contained in the mappatettong bola tradition on the Kiru-kiru village community in maintaining social harmony in the global era, and to find out the meaning of mappatettong bola in the Kiru-kiru village regarding the importance of maintaining the mappatettong bola tradition. To find out the application of the mappatettong bola tradition in maintaining community relations in Kiru-Kiru village. Bugis society has a main part, namely kinship relations and togetherness which is considered very important in a form of society. One of these parts in Bugis is the existence of a tradition of mutual cooperation in Bugis society. This custom is very closely related to the spirit of togetherness and solidarity in society. The difference between the Mappatettong Bola tradition and other villages is that the Bugis tribe community in Kiru-kiru village likes to work together, especially in the work of building Bugis houses or stilt houses. The nature of mutual cooperation possessed by the Kiru-Kiru village community is one of the characteristics of rural communities in maintaining their cultural values, especially in facing the era of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to find out: (1) The history of the emergence of the sange serri myth in the mapatappe process of the Bugis Tribe in Noling Village, Bupon Subdistrict, Luwu Regency, (2) The Bugis Tribe belief system in Noling Village in the myth of sange serri in the mapatappe process, (3) Implications trust in the myth of Sange Serri in the process of mapatappe. The technique of data collection is done through documentation, observation, and interviews and the data is processed using descriptive qualitative methods. The results of the study show: (1) The emergence of the myth of Sange Serri in the mapatappe process stems from the knowledge of the community about the meaning of the house which is divided into three parts and especially those relating to the roof or zinc. In line with that there is also the belief of the ancestors about crop failures that occur when not completing the mapatappe process in a day. The mapatappe myth is still believed by the local community as a heritage of their ancestors. (2) Reasons for the Bugis Tribe to still believe in the myth of Sange Serri in the mapatappe process, because there is a personal experience of the community about the consequences of the myth of mapatappe such as crop failure if it cannot complete the mapatappe in a day. (3) The implication of this belief has a positive impact, namely the Noling community is still very thick with the culture of mutual cooperation, while the negative impact is the existence of material losses and lack of knowledge of people who believe in the myth of mapatappe.

Abstract

The research aims to find out; 1). How Fair is the Distribution of Inheritance of Adopted Children in the Sungguminasa Village, Somba Opu District, Gowa Regency. 2). To find out the Inheritance Sharing System for Adopted Children in Sungguminasa Village, Somba Opu District, Gowa Regency. In this study used a type of qualitative research and written descriptively. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation and documentation methods involving individuals from several informants. The results and conclusions of this study indicate that adopted children can inherit property from their adoptive parents. Because the adoptive parents have considered the adopted child the same as biological children. So that the adoptive parents give their wealth to the adopted child, then the adopted child is obliged to take care of his adoptive parents like biological parents.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the process, meaning and social function of pilgrimage to Towalli Jo Tokanan Tomb for Bungin District community. This research uses interview method, direct observation and documentation. The results showed that the process of Towalli Jo Tokanan ceremony performed when someone promised to make a pilgrimage to the tomb Towalli Jo Tokanan when his prayer in ijabah Allah. The meaning of the pilgrimage of Towalli Jo Tokanan's grave is meaningful as a prayer and hope as gratitude for the prayer that has been granted and meaningful to the symbols used during the ceremony. The social function of Towalli Jo Tokanan ceremony is religious function, solidarity function and economic function.

Abstract

Fulfilling the economic needs of fishermen's families, in reality, is not only the full responsibility of the husband's role as the head of the family. However, in the economic activities of fishermen, the role of this person is also very important, especially in the aspect of marketing the caught fish. This paper examines the forms of participation carried out by fishermen's wives in Lasusua District, North Kolaka Regency. The results showed that the fishermen in this area succeeded in increasing the family's economic income, since they switched professions from garden workers to fishermen. The experience of pursuing a profession as a fisherman from the area of ​​origin, namely the Selayar Islands, allows them to exist working as fishermen and become suppliers of fish needs for local communities in this area. The focus of the study in this paper is limited to case studies of four families with different characteristics.
