Core Subject : Education,
Journal of Action Research in Education (JARE) is concerned with exploring the dialogue between research and practice in educational settings. The considerable increase in interest in action research in recent years has been accompanied by the development of a number of different approaches: for example, to promote reflective practice; professional development; empowerment; understanding of tacit professional knowledge; curriculum development; individual, institutional and community change; and development of democratic management and administration. Proponents of all these share the common aim of ending the dislocation of research from practice, an aim which links them with those involved in participatory research and action inquiry. This journal publishes accounts of a range of action research and related studies, in education and across the professions, with the aim of making their outcomes widely available and exemplifying the variety of possible styles of reporting. It aims to establish and maintain a review of the literature of action research. It also provides a forum for dialogue on the methodological and epistemological issues, enabling different approaches to be subjected to critical reflection and analysis.

Abstract

Learning is a process of acquiring knowledge that can occur anytime and anywhere, even without a teacher, through activities like reading, writing, or internet research. However, in the teaching-learning process, the teacher serves as a facilitator. Learning outcomes reflect the knowledge or skills students achieve after instructional activities, often assessed through tests such as daily exams, UTS, or UAS. These outcomes are crucial for measuring student progress. The jigsaw cooperative learning model involves dividing students into groups where each member studies assigned material and teaches it to their group, fostering interaction and collaboration. Research implementing this model in Grade 3A at SDN Keleyan 2 demonstrated significant improvement in learning outcomes. Initially, from the Pre-Test results, only 5 of 25 students met the learning outcome criteria. In Cycle I's Post-Test, this number increased to 10, with 15 students still not meeting the criteria. By Cycle II's Post-Test, 20 students had met the criteria, leaving only 5 students below the threshold. These findings indicate that the jigsaw cooperative learning model effectively enhances student learning outcomes by promoting active participation and collaborative learning among students.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) originates from the issue of low student performance in Cultural Arts and Crafts, particularly in drawing topics. The primary reasons for this are the traditional teaching methods and insufficient modeling by the teacher, which make the material delivery unclear and overly teacher-centric. The objective of this research is to enhance students' engagement and performance in Cultural Arts and Crafts, specifically in batik drawing, for the fourth-grade class C at Kemayoran 1 Bangkalan State Elementary School by implementing the demonstration method. The strength of this study lies in its shift from a teacher-centered to a student-centered learning approach through the use of demonstrations. This method encourages students to actively seek, discover, and deepen their understanding independently. The research was conducted over three cycles, with data collected via interviews, questionnaires, tests, observations, and documentation from both teachers and students. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students' engagement and performance with the use of the demonstration method. Therefore, it can be concluded that applying the demonstration method effectively boosts students' learning activities and achievements in Cultural Arts and Crafts, especially in batik drawing, in the fourth-grade class C at Kemayoran 1 Bangkalan State Elementary School.
