Abstract

Degradation of soil structure in wetlands can significantly affect drainage systems, potentially leading to excess water accumulation and risk of flooding. This research aims to analyze the effect of soil structure degradation on drainage in wetlands by comparing the physical and chemical characteristics of soil in degraded and control locations. Soil sampling was carried out in several locations, and laboratory analysis showed a decrease in porosity, permeability and organic matter content in degraded areas. The results showed that degradation of soil structure had a negative impact on drainage efficiency, leading to higher waterlogging in wetlands. Sustainable management recommendations, such as the application of soil conservation techniques, are proposed to improve soil structural conditions and support the sustainability of wetland ecosystems.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of soil thermal properties on the growth of horticultural crops in various climate zones, namely tropical, subtropical, and temperate. Soil thermal properties parameters measured include thermal conductivity, heat capacity, and thermal diffusivity. The results showed that soils in tropical climate zones, with higher conductivity and heat capacity, support more optimal growth of horticultural crops compared to subtropical and temperate climate zones. Regression analysis showed a positive relationship between soil temperature and plant growth, where optimal soil temperature conditions enhance plant physiological activities such as germination and nutrient uptake. These results emphasize the importance of adaptive soil management strategies based on soil thermal characteristics to increase horticultural crop productivity in the face of varying climatic conditions

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the relationship between soil water content and agricultural production in dry land. The study was conducted in [specify location] during the planting season of [specify year] involving [specify number of] farmers who planted various types of crops, including corn, rice and soybeans. Soil water content data is measured using a tensiometer, while crop yields are recorded at the end of the season. The analysis results show that there is a significant positive relationship between soil water content and crop yields (r = [specify correlation coefficient], p < 0.01). Corn plants show the highest yields compared to other crops. This research underscores the importance of efficient water management to increase agricultural productivity in drylands and recommends the use of modern irrigation techniques and drought-resistant crop varieties as effective management strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of cation exchange capacity (CEC) in maintaining soil fertility with various types of textures. CEC is an important parameter that determines the ability of soil to absorb and exchange essential cations for plants, which is highly dependent on soil texture, organic matter content, and pH. The study was conducted using soil samples with sandy, sandy loam, loam, and clay textures. The results showed that clay-textured soil had the highest CEC, while sandy soil had the lowest CEC. Organic matter content was shown to increase CEC, especially in soils with coarse textures, while a more neutral or alkaline pH tended to increase CEC significantly. These findings provide a scientific basis for soil management practices that can improve fertility, such as organic matter addition and liming on acidic soils. This research contributes to the sustainable management of soil fertility, especially on farms with a wide variety of soil textures and chemical conditions

Abstract

This research aims to understand how the physical characteristics of soil in agroforestry systems can influence water retention. Agroforestry, which combines trees or woody plants with agricultural crops, has the potential to increase soil texture, porosity, water capacity, as well as optimize soil infiltration and drainage. This study was carried out on agroforestry land combined with various types of trees and agricultural plants to evaluate soil physical changes that play a role in increasing water retention capacity. The research results show that agroforestry can increase water retention through changes in soil structure and better porosity. This study concludes that implementing an optimal agroforestry system can play an important role in maintaining soil moisture and increasing the sustainability of land productivity.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of soil mineral composition on electrical conductivity and nutrient availability. Soil samples of various types (sandy, clay and clay) were analyzed to determine the mineral composition using the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method, as well as measurements of electrical conductivity and the availability of key nutrients such as potassium, calcium and magnesium. The research results show that soil with high clay mineral content, such as montmorillonite and kaolinite, has higher electrical conductivity and nutrient availability values compared to sandy soil. Statistical analysis shows a positive relationship between clay mineral composition and electrical conductivity and nutrient availability. This discovery has practical implications in agricultural soil management, where electrical conductivity can be used as an indicator to predict nutrient availability quickly and efficiently.

Abstract

Soil physical properties play a crucial role in supporting the productivity and sustainability of plantation land. However, changes in management systems, both organic and conventional, often have a significant impact on soil physical conditions. Problems faced in conventional plantation land include decreased soil structure quality, increased soil density, and decreased air infiltration capacity, caused by intensive use of chemicals and unsustainable land management. On the other hand, organic management systems are considered capable of improving several soil physical characteristics, such as increased porosity, aggregate stability, and soil ability to retain moisture, in-depth research is still needed to validate these benefits quantitatively. This study aims to compare the effects of the two management systems on soil physical properties, including texture, structure, porosity, density, and air content. Soil samples were taken from organic and conventionally managed plantation lands, and measured using standard laboratory methods to obtain comprehensive data. The findings of this study are expected to provide insight into the impact of each management system on soil physical quality, as well as become the basis for recommendations for more sustainable land management strategies in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of different types of mulch on soil physical properties, including moisture, temperature, and porosity, as well as on crop production quality. The experiment was conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four treatments: no mulch (control), silver-black plastic mulch, rice straw mulch, and sawdust mulch. The results indicate that mulch usage significantly increased soil moisture and maintained a more stable temperature compared to the control. Silver-black plastic mulch increased soil temperature by 2–3°C, while organic mulches provided higher moisture retention and improved porosity. Furthermore, plant production quality, including plant height, branch count, and fruit yield, was better in the mulched treatments, especially with plastic mulch. Economic analysis suggests that organic mulch is more cost-effective in the long term and supports sustainable agricultural practices. Thus, mulch usage is an effective technique to improve soil quality and crop productivity.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the effect of soil density on plant root performance in various climatic conditions. Experiments were carried out by comparing plant root growth at high (1.5 g/cm³) and low (1.2 g/cm³) soil density in locations representing tropical, dry and temperate climates. Results showed that high soil density significantly inhibited root growth, with average root length reaching 30 cm at low density and only 15 cm at high density. In addition, the ability to absorb water and nutrient content in roots is also higher in low density soil treatment. These findings confirm that maintaining soil density at optimal levels is important to support healthy root growth and plant productivity. The research also found that climate conditions influenced the relationship between soil density and root performance, with plants in dry climate locations experiencing greater impacts from high soil density. Recommendations for sustainable soil management practices are suggested to improve root health and agricultural productivity.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of rainfall on infiltration capacity and soil stability in agricultural areas. Data on rainfall, infiltration capacity and soil stability were collected through direct measurements in the field using a rain gauge and infiltrometer, as well as soil aggregate stability tests in the laboratory. The research results show that high rainfall significantly reduces soil infiltration capacity and accelerates the disintegration of soil aggregates, especially in clay-textured soils. In the rainy season, infiltration capacity decreases by up to 50%, while soil aggregate stability decreases by around 40%. These findings indicate that high rainfall intensity increases the risk of erosion in agricultural areas and affects soil fertility in the long term. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to apply soil conservation techniques, such as planting cover crops and reducing tillage, to improve soil structure and reduce the rate of erosion. It is hoped that the results of this research can become a basis for farmers and policy makers in developing sustainable land management strategies.
