Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the understanding of Islamization in Southeast Asia through a comparative analysis of Indonesia and Malaysia, emphasizing the relationship between origin narratives and the dynamics of Islamic development. The research employs a qualitative library-based approach using thematic synthesis of Scopus-indexed academic literature. The findings demonstrate that Islamization cannot be adequately explained as a linear or diffusionist process; rather, it constitutes a relational configuration shaped by the interaction of origin narratives, transregional networks, cultural mechanisms, and institutional structures. The study further reveals that the plurality of origin narratives functions as an epistemological foundation that influences the trajectory of Islamization in different contexts. Comparatively, Indonesia reflects a cultural-pluralistic model of Islamization rooted in civil society, while Malaysia represents a structural-institutional model embedded within the state. This study concludes that Islamization is not merely a process of religious transmission but a historical mechanism that actively produces differentiated forms of Islam. The primary contribution lies in redefining Islamization as a multidimensional relational process that bridges the fragmentation between origin theories and the socio-political development of Islam in Southeast Asian studies.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of the prayer room (musholla) as a place of worship and social space for students, explain the practice of daily piety through the habit of congregational prayer, and analyze the roles of teachers, schools, and families in shaping the religious character of children at SD Negeri 2 Lesmana. This study used a qualitative approach with field research. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, interviews, and documentation of students' religious activities in the school prayer room. The results indicate that the prayer room functions not only as a place for worship but also as a space for religious habits, character education, and student social interaction. Through activities such as Duha prayer (Duha), Zuhur prayer (Dhuhr), BTQ (Recitation of the Quran), group prayer, and teacher involvement in mentoring, students learn discipline, order, responsibility, maintaining togetherness, and respecting rules. Students' daily practice of piety is formed through the habit of worship that is carried out routinely, purposefully, and sustainably. Religious character formation is strengthened when schools, teachers, and families work together to instill religious values both at school and at home.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools as Islamic educational institutions have a strategic role in forming cadres of scholars and leaders of the people. However, the dynamics of globalization present challenges, especially regarding how pesantren remain relevant in producing graduates who not only master religious knowledge (Mutafaqqih Fiddien), but also have leadership abilities (Mundzirul Qoum). This becomes important to study, considering that pesantren are faced with community expectations and the demands of the times. This study aims to describe the concepts of Mundzirul Qoum and Mutafaqqih Fiddien at Pondok Pesantren TMI Al-Amien Prenduan, analyze the implementation of these concepts, and explain their implications for the competence of pesantren graduates. The research focus includes three main aspects: (1) the concept of Mundzirul Qoum and Mutafaqqih Fiddien, (2) the implementation of the concept in shaping graduates, and (3) the implications of the concept on the competence of graduates. Analyzed data collection results a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using an interactive analysis model, including: (1) data condensation, (2) data presentation, and (3) conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was tested through triangulation of sources and techniques. The results showed that the concepts of Mundzirul Qoum and Mutafaqqih Fiddien are based on QS. At-Taubah: 122 and is implemented through various formal education programs, extracurricular activities, and habituation of Islamic values. This implementation includes the formation of santri character, mastery of religious and general knowledge, and leadership development. The implication of this concept is the creation of graduates who have intellectual, moral, and social competencies that are relevant to the needs of modern society.

Abstract

Cash waqf is one of the Islamic philanthropic instruments that has significant potential in supporting social and economic development, especially in the education sector. However, the management of cash waqf still faces challenges in optimizing and transforming it into productive assets. This study aims to analyze the implementation and effectiveness of transforming cash waqf into productive assets managed by the Center for Social Fund Management (PUSPAS) of Universitas Airlangga. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving institutional administrators, companions of Griya Khadijah, and beneficiaries. Data analysis techniques included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested using source and technique triangulation. The results indicate that the transformation of cash waqf is carried out through two management sectors, namely the real sector and the non-real sector. The real sector includes the management of Griya Khadijah Islamic boarding house, scholarships, café businesses, and laundry services, while the non-real sector is managed through Islamic financial instruments such as deposits and Islamic securities. The transformation was deemed effective based on the effectiveness indicators proposed by Richard M. Steers, which include satisfaction, productivity, efficiency, adaptability, and development. In addition, the productive waqf program has provided direct benefits to students through scholarships, living cost assistance, and character development programs. This research contributes to the development of university-based productive waqf studies by showing that the integration of waqf management in the real and non-real sectors can be a model for the transformation of sustainable cash waqf and is able to support student empowerment through educational programs, scholarships, and character building.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed educational systems, including Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning. The transformation of IRE extends beyond the integration of technology as a learning medium to encompass changes in instructional strategies, teaching methods, educators' roles, and interactions between teachers and students. This study aims to identify, analyze, and synthesize previous research on the transformation of Islamic Religious Education learning in the digital era through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The study adopts the PRISMA guidelines, including the stages of identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and inclusion of scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025 from various academic databases. The findings indicate that the transformation of IRE learning is characterized by the implementation of Learning Management Systems (LMS), digital learning media, online learning platforms, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and student-centered learning approaches. These innovations enhance learning flexibility, student engagement, and access to educational resources. However, challenges remain, including limited digital literacy, unequal technological infrastructure, and the need to strengthen pedagogical competencies and digital ethics among educators and learners. This study concludes that the transformation of Islamic Religious Education in the digital era is an ongoing process that requires the integration of technological innovation, educators' digital competence, and Islamic values to ensure effective, adaptive, and character-oriented learning.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of political primordialism in Indonesian democracy through the perspective of Islamic constitutional law as a normative framework, focusing on how identity based preferences such as religion, ethnicity, and group affiliation influence voters’ choices in leadership elections and how these practices are evaluated within Islamic leadership principles. Departing from the tension between the ideal of rational democracy and the empirical reality of rising identity politics, this research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive analytical method integrating empirical data and normative analysis of the principles of trustworthiness, justice, and competence. The findings show that political primordialism functions not only as a strategy for electoral mobilization by political actors but is also interpreted by voters as a form of collective identity representation, however from the perspective of Islamic constitutional law such practices tend to deviate as they prioritize identity over leadership quality which consequently weakens political rationality and undermines the principles of justice and public welfare in governance.
