This article discusses the issue of recognition and protection of community rights in Indonesia in the light of Seyla Benhabib's interactive universalism. The research aims to analyse the challenges and opportunities in pursuing recognition and protection of indigenous peoples within the framework of interactive universalism, by emphasising cultural diversity and the importance of the local context. Interactive universalism concerns about the importance of dialogue, public participation, and the adaptation of democratic principles in preserving indigenous peoples' rights. Here interactive universalism is used to review the state of indigenous peoples' rights in Indonesia. Various public policies have caused conflicts, ranging from land take over to human rights violation, that are detrimental to the existence of indigenous peoples. Public policy as a representation of the state should protect their rights. In this article public policies are reviewed from the perspective of interactive universalism. The review process will consider cultural diversity in order to prevent future problems and to recommend adequate and assured protection of the rights of indigenous peoples. This research is a qualitative research using a philosophical approach and literature review to analyse actual problems.

Screen allows humans to experience and understand the world without being limited by the existence of their physical body. This is one of Anne Friedberg's main ideas in her works, which supports the main basis for this article. The Covid-19 pandemic that has occurred since March 2020 has limited, reduced, slowed down, and in some situations it could even be said it almost stopped human mobility, for example, in areas over the world where the ‘lockdown’ policy was applied. As a consequence, mobility turns into immobility. This condition corresponds to the reality during the pandemic dominated by the presence of screen. There has been growing importance of domestic space as the centre of everydayness that gives crucial role to the screen as its window to the world. This could be perceived as virtual mobility, in the sense that it was a ‘mobility’ without bodily mobility. This article elaborates Friedberg's thoughts with regard to virtual mobility that has been increasingly dominated by the screen, by examining its relevance to the actual conditions of the people during the pandemic. At the end of this article, the consequences of this massive virtual mobility and screen dominance during the pandemic are analysed—a situation that might bring further implications on the experiences of aura, panopticon, and consumption.

Paulo Freire's philosophical thinking and the spirituality of Francis of Assisi can inspire the world of education in Indonesia. The reality of educational process in schools in Indonesia still needs further reflection on whether it is truly liberating and transforming those who are involved in the process. In this article, philosophical thinking about a liberating education process is correlated with the Franciscan spirituality which serves as the driving force to realise a more humanising, liberating, and transformative education. The transformative dimension of education can be seen spiritually in the Christian tradition as the experience of repentance, that can happen in the teachers as well as in the students. The philosophical concept of education is used as a basis and rational framework for evaluating the educational process, and then the spiritual inspiration provides a spiritual framework to direct the development of educational process so that it continues to lead to the shared vision that is the goal of Christian educational institutions. This article consists of three parts exploring the philosophical-pedagogical views of Paulo Freire, the spirituality of Francis of Assisi, and the ideas arising from the correlation between the two.

Finding a common philosophical grounding for an Indonesian aesthetics seems to have been problematic. In another word, for a string of archipelagos consisting diverse customs and cultures partially constructed through colonial invasions dating from the 17th century, defining its existential beauty is never a simple argumentative task. The author attempts to elaborate Immanuel Kant’s ideas from his seminal work Critique of Judgment, although Kant’s central position in aesthetics studies does not imply that his disposition is free from ambiguity. The author employs analytical philosophy approaches to elaborate Kant’s ambiguous position and weakness. These are intended as preliminary step towards implementing Kant’s argument in building a fundamental Indonesian aesthetics theory with sufficient explanatory power to describe the variety of Indonesian traditional arts. Further step is to form a strong theoretical foundation for the development of artistic practices in the modern Indonesia. This article concludes that Kant’s implied position of the sublime could be a viable alternative in resolving this conundrum.

Humans created screen in the rapid development of technology, and its existence has fundamentally influenced people’s daily lives. One of the things most affected is human understanding of space and time. This article elaborates Anne Friedberg’s ideas in correlation with the views of other thinkers, especially regarding the metaphysical and epistemological impacts of screen to humans’ relation to reality since the pandemic. The metaphysical aspect of the screen concerns the materiality and immateriality of the screen, as well as how the concept of presence is understood in this context. Meanwhile, the epistemological aspect of the screen focuses on issues of perception and how humans understand the world. The metaphysical and epistemological implications of virtual mobility in a world increasingly mediated by 'screens' give rise to several different perspectives that can question the Carthusian and dualistic conceptual framework of reality. Just as plurality is a fact, the mediated world is also a fact. Correcting the metaphysical ‘tradition’ that has been recognised as the most determining rationality will not be an easy effort. In the discourse of science and certainty regarding the existence of reality, perhaps it is not the literal or symbolic screen that must be reinterpreted, but the human perspective itself. A person's point of view cannot be judged as wrong or right, apart from being recognised and respected as an element that forms the very rich reality. Recognising a multi-perspective reality will perhaps mark a return to amazement in the realms of science, philosophy, and life.

This study aims to explore the interplay between space and the construction of identity. It employs descriptive library research methodology to elucidate the elements and aspects of both space and identity. It draws upon Michel Foucault’s concept of heterotopia for the understanding of space and the theory of profile formulated by Hans-Georg Moeller and Paul J. D’Ambrosio. The analysis delves into these theories and their interrelation concerning identity formation. The authors conclude that from Foucault's perspective, space can be seen as having distinctive characteristics, tied to axio-ontological components that need to be fulfilled before entering a heterotopic space. This position is then intersected with Luhmann’s second-order observation, resulting in a dynamically linked profilic identity to a particular space. This paper finds that in Foucault’s thinking, heterotopia emphasises the impossibility of space being separated into a label. Space as a site (“cultural framework”) may still be enforced by designing it to fulfill certain functions. As a consequence, it becomes increasingly difficult for these spaces to be seen as relevant to society’s way of being today. In the light of Foucault and Moeller-D’Ambrosio, the space now needs to be seen as a form of space (espace–a referential frame) that is profilic.

The 20th century holocaust against Jews in Auschwitz, Buchenwald, and other concentration camps was the starting point for the change in modern Jewish theology towards contemporary theology. Contemporary Jewish theologians, rabbis, and philosophers have revisited their theodicy by critically reading scriptural texts and traditions (Midrash). The substance debated in theodicy is about God’s goodness which is in conflict with God’s omnipotence so that evil and suffering occur. The problem of Jewish theodicy after Auschwitz was studied by Zachary Braiterman by explaining the split between the hegemony of Jewish theodicy with a religious discourse and anti-theodicy with a pagan discourse. Braiterman uses a postmodern approach to map the criticism of Jewish theologians and philosophers towards the universal truth of theodicy before Auschwitz. This new discourse is useful for transforming the cultural changes of modern Jewish society from its marginal position in the text to becoming the main figure (anthropodicy). It seems that Braiterman is supporting the anti-theodicy movement to move beyond the nightmare of the holocaust in order to free the Jewish people from suffering by critically rereading texts and tradition.

A community is a collection of individuals who are related to one another and are aware of their membership. Relationships among the community members are based on shared beliefs, goals, activities, or interests. This article traces the development of ideas about Christian community in the Scriptures, in the views of the Church fathers, theologians, and in the Church documents. Inspiration from the Scriptures is used to find the Christian vision of a community that can shape the evangelisation. The views of the Church fathers and of the later theologians are selected to provide an overview of the development of ideas about Christian communities that are more connected with the actual life of the faithful, especially the young generation. Pope Francis’ Postsynodal Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit (2019) is referred to in order to provide a picture of a Christian community that is more suited to the young people. Finally, the development of ideas about a Christian community will be correlated with the actual experiences of Catholic students at “Student Church” (Gema) in the Bandung Diocese, Indonesia. From this correlation, theological inspirations on the aspects of the Christian communities are further (re)interpreted from time to time by the moderator priests of Gema and are contextualised and lived in everydayness by the young Catholics studying in the city of Bandung.

The issue of identity as a member of the Church comes to the fore and is purified when placed within the framework of diversity and relationships with other ecclesiastical communities. Ecumenism is an effort to restore the unity of the Christian Church that emerges from the diversity of the Christian communities. In this case, identity as a member of a particular Church can actually grow and be enriched by these relationships. This article explores the self-perception of young Catholics as members of the Catholic Church amidst the diversity of the ecclesiastical communities. Using Paul Murray’s concept of Catholic learning, it observes how young people discover the uniqueness of their existence as members of the Catholic Church. Within this perspective, the Church instills an attitude of mutual respect and acceptance of the elements of truth within the Church itself and within other ecclesiastical communities. The author observes the ways of carrying out the Catholic learning by conducting an exploration of perceptions of self-identity among the Catholics, which aim to build an attitude of mutual respect, mutual acceptance, and mutual enrichment of each other. In this effort, the focus is directed towards young people who can be expected to witness as well as to learn from other ecclesiastical communities and that dialogue can be a means of purifying their identity.
