Abstract

This research is motivated by the low numerical skills of early childhood who still often have difficulty in recognizing numbers, counting concrete objects, and understanding the concept of simple quantities. Numerical skills are important for children to master early because they are the basis for learning mathematics at the next level. Therefore, appropriate learning strategies are needed and according to the stage of Child Development. This study aims to describe the implementation of Scaffoding techniques in mathematics learning in order to improve the numerical skills of children in KB Miftahul Huda. The research method used is Class Action Research (PTK) with two cycles. The study subjects consisted of 15 children of Group B aged 5-6 years. Scaffolding techniques are applied through gradual assistance in the form of teacher directions, lighter questions, demonstrations with concrete media, and slowly reducing assistance according to the child's ability. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and then analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed a significant improvement in children's numerical skills. In the pre cycle only 33% of children were able to count objects and match numbers with numbers. After the application of scaffolding in the first cycle increased to 46%, and in the second cycle reached 86%. It is proved that scaffolding technique is effective in improving early childhood numerical skills. This strategy is not only relevant to the theory of child development, but also makes a real contribution to the practice of learning in early childhood, especially in building a concrete and gradual understanding of numbers.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of children lacking focus and being quiet that impact concentration, social interaction, and fine motor coordination. The traditional game of congklak is one solution because it is interactive, structured, and fun, so it can stimulate eye-hand coordination, concentration, and active participation of children. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. The research subjects were 18 students at Kober Az-Zahra Ciamis. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation using observation sheets and interview guidelines. The results showed that children's fine motor skills before the implementation of congklak were classified as low with an average score of 1.4 in the poor category. Children still had difficulty regulating finger movements, inserting congklak seeds, and maintaining concentration. After the implementation of the congklak game, the average score increased to 3.22 in the often able category. Children were more skilled in eye-hand coordination, more flexible in moving their fingers, and more focused on following rules. This proves that congklak is effective as an innovative learning medium to optimally stimulate the development of fine motor skills in early childhood.

Abstract

This literature review analyzes the characteristics of growth and development among elementary school students aged 6–12 years and examines their implications for teaching strategies in primary education settings. The school-age period represents a critical phase characterized by relatively stable physical growth and the cognitive transition toward the concrete operational stage, as described by Jean Piaget. Drawing upon primary sources from reputable educational journals and classical developmental psychology theories, this study identifies key patterns in physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. The findings reveal that many learning difficulties observed in elementary classrooms stem not from low intellectual capacity but from a mismatch between instructional methods and students’ developmental readiness. Effective teaching strategies must therefore integrate an understanding of fine motor skill development (particularly during the 8–9-year “golden period”), the need for concrete learning experiences, and attention to nutritional and environmental factors that influence developmental trajectories. The review emphasizes that synergy between teachers and parents is essential for creating a supportive ecosystem that optimizes children’s holistic growth. Recommendations are provided for implementing developmentally appropriate practices that align pedagogical approaches with children’s biological and psychological stages in both public and Islamic elementary schools.

Abstract

This study analyzes the character education values embedded in the Javanese gendhing “Pepeling” composed by Ki H. Anom Suroto and examines its implications for character development among elementary school students. Although the gendhing is widely performed in Javanese religious and wayang gatherings, scholarly studies that examine its character education values for elementary education remain limited; this gap motivates the present study. The research employed a qualitative, descriptive-analytical approach using content analysis of the gendhing lyrics, supported by a literature review on character education and Javanese karawitan and complemented by hermeneutic interpretation of the Javanese linguistic symbols. The findings reveal four core character values: (1) spiritual awareness and commitment to worship, (2) consistency (istiqomah) and discipline, (3) patience and tawakal (trust in God), and (4) eling lan waspada (being mindful and cautious). These values correspond closely to the moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action components of character formation and to the religious dimension of national character education. They are highly relevant for integration into elementary school character education through a local-wisdom-based approach. The study recommends that teachers use traditional Javanese gendhing as a contextual and meaningful medium for internalizing character values among elementary school students while contributing to cultural preservation

Abstract

Indonesia's coral reefs face a serious threat of degradation due to destructive human activities such as bombing, potash and ship anchoring and climate change, while marine conservation education at the primary school level is still very limited. This research aims to develop a picture animation book with the theme of coral reef conservation as a valid, practical, and effective learning medium to improve general knowledge, specific knowledge, character, and conservation ethics of grade IV elementary school students. The development model used is ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects consisted of 32 grade IV students in two elementary schools of State 2 Labuhan Kananga in the coastal area of Moyo Satonda National Park. Data was collected using validation sheets of material experts, media experts, teacher and student response questionnaires, as well as pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the validation of material experts obtained an average score of 89.6% (very feasible) and the validation of media experts 91.2% (very feasible). The teacher's response reached 93.4% and the student's response was 88.7%. The effectiveness test using N-Gain showed an increase in general knowledge by 0.63 (moderate) and specific knowledge by 0.48 (moderate). The score of conservation character increased by 31.4% and conservation ethics increased by 27.8% based on observation rubrics. This study concludes that the illustrated book with the theme of coral reef conservation developed is feasible and shows a moderate but meaningful effect as a learning medium for marine environmental conservation in elementary schools

Abstract

Traditional art is an important part of national identity, yet the Cirebon Mask Dance faced declining interest among the younger generation. This study aimed to examine how the utilization of the Cirebon Mask Dance in arts and culture learning increased elementary school students' appreciation of traditional art, and to identify the benefits and challenges of integrating it into the formal curriculum. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design at a primary school in Cirebon City. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with two key informants, an extracurricular coordinator teacher and an arts teacher who was also a dance practitioner, together with classroom observation and documentation, then analyzed thematically and validated through source triangulation, method triangulation, and member checking. The results show that experiential, multisensory learning of the dance increases students' enthusiasm, courage to perform, communication skills, and pride in local culture. The five mask characters convey moral values that support character education, and the dance is integrated across subjects such as fine arts, civics, and Islamic education. The main challenges are limited teacher mastery of the dance, inadequate facilities, a dense curriculum, and gender perceptions among boys. The study concludes that the Cirebon Mask Dance is an effective and meaningful medium for cultural preservation and character building at the primary education level, and recommends its wider adoption across elementary schools in the Cirebon region.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a crucial factor that determines the success of mathematics learning at the elementary school level. However, low motivation remains a persistent challenge, particularly in schools with limited access to digital technology. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the gamification approach in improving mathematics learning motivation among Grade IV students at SD Negeri 2 Mekarmukti. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 2000), which posits that intrinsic motivation develops through the fulfillment of three basic psychological needs (competence, autonomy, and relatedness), this study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design following the Kemmis and McTaggart model across two cycles. Subjects were 25 Grade IV students during the even semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected via observation sheets, a 45-item learning motivation questionnaire (1-5 Likert scale), and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques. Findings show that the mean motivation score increased from 26.80 (pre-cycle) to 32.12 (Cycle I) and 35.36 (Cycle II), while the proportion of students in the highly active category rose from 32% to 64% and ultimately to 92%, surpassing the 85% success threshold. The most effective gamification elements were structured group challenges with clear rules (Mystery Card Quest and Flashcard Sprint), point systems, and reward mechanisms. This study demonstrates that non-digital, activity-based gamification is an accessible and effective strategy for elementary school teachers in resource-constrained settings.
