Abstract

Aim: This study examines the implementation and effectiveness of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process in Indonesia. The research aims to assess the outcomes of the EIA process by analyzing selected case studies across various sectors and regions. It also identifies contextual factors influencing EIA implementation and proposes recommendations to improve its effectiveness.Methodology: The current study employed a literature review approach to assess the implementation and effectiveness of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Indonesian law.Findings: The findings indicate positive outcomes in terms of impact identification and implementation of mitigation measures. However, challenges remain in stakeholder engagement, monitoring and enforcement, and integrating EIA outcomes into decision-making processes. To address these issues, recommendations are made, including strengthening the legal framework, promoting meaningful stakeholder engagement, enhancing capacity and expertise, integrating EIA outcomes into decision-making, and improving monitoring and compliance mechanisms. The study concludes by highlighting the need to consider Indonesia’s unique socio-political context and environmental challenges in improvingthe effectiveness of the EIA process.Implications/Novel Contribution: The current study provide insights into the challenges faced by Indonesia and propose contextually appropriate recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of the EIA process.

Abstract

Aim: In this digital era, a person’s day begins with digital devices such as digital watches or smartphones. Cyber security is one of the major concerns in this era. Every device is connected, and hence, it is one of the reasons for most of the data security issues. The aim of this paper is to find out if it is necessary to conduct cybersecurity awareness sessions among students of different fields of study.Methodology: A survey was conducted using the questionnaires and respondents are students from three different fields of study, Creative Computing, Business and Management and Psychology at BSU Academic Center, RAK, UAE. For current research, the Google form was used to conduct a survey and shared via WhatsApp group messages to all students. There was a total of 141 respondents. The insights from the survey were conducted for the student’s age group of 17- 21.Findings: The findings show a significant difference between the responses of three fields of study. The students of Creative computing are well aware of cyber security terminologies compared to students from other fields of study.Implications/Novel Contribution: The students can be guided with appropriate cyber laws to understand the importance of data security. In the future, cyber security awareness could be created among students by conducting seminars and workshops..

Abstract

Aim: This study investigates the impact of gamification-based pedagogical approaches on academic performance and student engagement from the perspective of Jordanian school teachers. With the increasing integration of technology and innovative teaching methods, understanding the effectiveness of gamification in educational settings becomes crucial. The objective of this research was to explore how gamification strategies influence both academic performance and student engagement, as perceived by Jordanian school teachers.Methodology: Employing a quantitative research approach, a sample of 433 Jordanian school teachers was purposefully selected to participate in the study. The research instrument employed was a closed questionnaire, designed to gather comprehensive insights into teachers’ perceptions of the effects of gamification on academic performance and student engagement. The data collected underwent rigorous analysis using the Smart Partial Least Squares (SmartPLS) technique. This method enabled a robust examination of the relationships between gamification-based pedagogical approaches, academic performance, and student engagement.Findings: The findings emphasize the positive impact of gamification-based pedagogical approaches, shedding light on its potential to transform traditional teaching methods.Implications/Novel Contribution: Policymakers, educators, and curriculum designers can draw upon these findings to make informed decisions aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Jordan and potentially in analogous educational systems globally.

Abstract

Aim: Speaking skills are one of the main skills that must be mastered by students and are one of the ultimate goals of learning a foreign language. On that basis, various strategies based on learning theories have been developed to facilitate the process of language acquisition and learning Arabic. One of these theories is the constructivism theory. Constructivism theory understands learning as a process of forming (constructing) knowledge by the learner themselves. This study aims to explore the implementation of constructivism theory in teaching speaking skills in the Arabic Language Education Department, State Islamic University of Salatiga, Indonesia.Methodology: This study was a qualitative study with a case study. Data were collected through observation, in depth interviews, and documentation. The analysis technique used was data triangulation. In the data analysis process, the researcher used the following steps: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions.Findings: Study brings key policy insights for learning and teaching higher authorities and governing bodies. The implementation of collaborative learning based on constructivism theory in teaching speaking skills is carried out with several strategies, namely: role play and drama, three-step interview, debate, and language games.

Abstract

Aim: Learning Arabic in Indonesia is still focused on traditional methods that pay more attention to language structure (grammar-based) rather than the ability to communicate genuinely. The application of the communicative approach in this study aims to enhance the skill of oral communication. This study is a deep study on the implementation of the communicative curriculum in the two-year credit hour system program at Zain Al-Hassan Qanqoun Model High School. This research was characterized by revealing the limitations and opportunities to apply this curriculum within an intensive time frame, which has not been explicitly discussed in previous research. This study also assesses the difference in students’ achievement in a competitive learning environment with a heavy academic load.Methodology: The study adopted triangulation method technique. The data was obtained through deep interviews, direct observation, and document analysis.Findings: The results of the research showed that the communicative curriculum was able to drive an improvement in students’ abilities in speaking Arabic, but time constraints and imbalance in learning facilities constitute a major obstacle in the overall learning process.Implications/Novel Contribution: This study makes recommendations for improving the communicative curriculum in the context of the credit hour system, through adaptive pedagogical innovations more appropriate to dynamic educational situations.
