Abstract

Many Islamic boarding schools do not yet have economic independence, so the concept of Islamic boarding school independence must continue to be promoted not only for the internal interests of the Islamic boarding school, but also for the social interests of society, so that the existence of Islamic boarding schools can be felt by the community. This research aims to examine the strengthening of Islamic boarding school-based entrepreneurship towards economic independence in Pondok Al-Bahjah, Cirebon Regency. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation and documentation. The research results show three main findings, including: First, efforts to strengthen Islamic boarding school-based entrepreneurship are carried out through Economics and Entrepreneurship, creating products that are able to compete in the market, as well as improving skills in entrepreneurship. Second, factors that influence the success of entrepreneurship programs include good leadership and management, adequate human resources, entrepreneurship education, technology and innovation, supporting infrastructure and facilities, partnerships, monitoring and evaluation which are carried out regularly. Third, the impact of strengthening Islamic boarding school-based entrepreneurship is increasing the economic independence of students, developing students' skills, and improving the welfare of students and residents in the area around Islamic boarding schools. The implications of this study show that strengthening entrepreneurship in Al-Bahjah Islamic Boarding School, Cirebon Regency has an impact on three important areas: increasing the economic independence of the pesantren and the surrounding community through various business units, improving the welfare of students and the community by creating jobs, and developing entrepreneurial skills of students as a provision for their future. This changes the role of pesantren from just an Islamic educational institution to a social institution with strategic economic contribution.

Abstract

Microfinance provides access to financial services for low-income people, empowering and increasing business productivity in achieving prosperity. Rural communities are the group most interested in microfinance because it is often neglected by the formal financial system. This research focuses on the characteristics of rural communities in improving the implementation of microfinance through financing marketing strategies. A descriptive qualitative approach is used in this study. The data sources are based on observations, in-depth interviews, and contextual literacy of various documents. The research respondents were female entrepreneurs who received sharia-based microfinance facilities from BTPN Syariah and PT Permodalan Nasional Madani in the Cirebon area. The data analysis techniques were carried out through Data collection, Data reduction, Data presentation, Conclusion drawing/verification. The implementation of sharia microfinance through financial institutions and financing institutions in the Cirebon area has proven to have a positive effect. The marketing strategy of Islamic microfinance institutions in rural communities helps the growth of sustainable micro enterprises. This is evidenced by the ease of access to financing and more flexible terms in applying for financing, being able to increase sales results, and a community approach to financing through rural women entrepreneurs that helps reduce unemployment and poverty rates. The economic impact in the application of the concept of sharia economics encourages the principles of justice and social welfare, in addition to being able to provide access to capital. The implementation of sharia microfinance in rural communities in Cirebon has positive and transformative implications for the economy and social of the community by increasing access to financing, encouraging the growth of micro businesses, empowering women, reducing poverty and dependence on loan sharks, although it is still faced with the challenges of limited capital, low Islamic financial literacy, and the need for adequate regulatory support

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven transformation in various aspects of life, including payment systems. One of the innovations developed in Indonesia is the Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS), which has been widely adopted in various sectors, including small and medium enterprises. This study aims to analyze the role of QRIS from the perspective of Islamic economics with a case study of a photocopying business around the Banyumas campus. The method used is qualitative with a case study approach, where data is collected through observation, interviews with photocopying business owners and students as the main users, and literature studies related to Islamic economics. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of QRIS in photocopying provides various benefits, such as ease of transactions, operational efficiency, and increased convenience for students. However, there are several challenges in implementing QRIS, especially related to transaction fee deductions that potentially contain usury elements and delays in disbursing funds to recipient accounts. From a Sharia economic perspective, although the use of QRIS, in general, does not conflict with Sharia principles, aspects of contracts, transparency, and fairness in transaction costs need to be studied further to comply with the principles of Islamic muamalah. This study recommends education for business actors and students regarding Sharia financial literacy in digital systems and the development of QRIS mechanisms that are more on Islamic economic principles. In addition, further research related to QRIS regulations and policies in the Sharia economic system is needed to ensure that this digital payment system can fully support Sharia-based financial inclusion.

Abstract

Tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering significantly challenge Nigeria’s economic stability and governance. This research investigates the pervasive issues of tax fraud and evasion in Nigeria, significantly undermining government revenue and public trust. The study explores the role of forensic accounting in combating these financial crimes within Nigeria’s legal framework. A case study approach was employed, analysing specific instances of tax fraud and the effectiveness of forensic accounting interventions in addressing these challenges. The data collection technique in this study is through semi-structured interviews. Data collected from analyses using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that, despite existing legislation, enforcement is hindered by corruption, inadequate resources, and a lack of public awareness. The case studies illustrate how forensic accounting is a critical tool for detecting and preventing tax fraud; however, its application is often limited due to insufficient training and poor inter-agency collaboration. The findings reveal a persistent culture of non-compliance fueled by systemic corruption, ineffective enforcement mechanisms, and limited public awareness of tax obligations. Furthermore, the research uncovers a significant gap in the capacity and application of forensic accounting practices, which hampers effective fraud detection and prevention. In conclusion, the research underscores the urgent need for enhanced regulatory frameworks, public awareness initiatives and better integration of forensic accounting practices to address tax-related crimes effectively. This study contributes to the body of knowledge by providing actionable recommendations for policymakers and practitioners and establishing a foundation for future research on financial crimes in Nigeria. The findings of this study have significant implications for Nigeria's tax and financial system. The close links between tax evasion, fraud, and money laundering have created a vicious circle that eats away at national revenues and undermines public trust in government institutions. To address these challenges, comprehensive reforms to the Nigerian tax system are recommended with a focus on simplifying tax regulations, closing legal loopholes, and strengthening enforcement mechanisms.

Abstract

Islamic tourism has gained significant attention as a driver of community-based economic development, with mosques playing a central role in religious, social, and economic activities. One notable example is Jogokariyan Ramadhan Village (JRV), an annual program that attracts thousands of visitors through religious events and MSME-driven markets. This study aims to analyze the sustainability of JRV in economic, social, and environmental aspects as a community-based religious and economic tourism destination. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Respondents included mosque managers, MSME actors, and tourists, with data analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques based on the Triple Bottom Line model (economic, social, and environmental). The findings indicate that JRV has successfully improved the local economy through active MSME participation and transparent mosque fund management. Socially, JRV fosters strong community cohesion through mutual cooperation and empowerment initiatives. However, challenges persist, including a decline in economic activity after Ramadan and the environmental impact of market waste. The study underscores the importance of mosque-based economic initiatives in sustaining local businesses beyond Ramadan, demonstrating how religious tourism can be a catalyst for long-term economic resilience. Additionally, it highlights the need for improved waste management strategies to mitigate the environmental impact of large-scale religious events. To address these challenges, this study recommends strategies for economic diversification, the digitalization of MSME marketing, and the optimization of social programs to extend JRV’s positive impact throughout the year. By implementing these measures, JRV can serve as a model for sustainable religious tourism that can be replicated in other regions.

Abstract

The weak accountability of the performance of government agencies is reflected in the results of the 2021 BPK audit in Fifty Cities Regency which found irregularities in honorarium payments and the use of the budget not in accordance with regional price standards, indicating the weakness of the internal control system and the competence of the apparatus in managing government finances. The purpose of this study was to analyze the accountability of government agency performance in preventing fraud through organizational commitment. The population of the study was the regional apparatus organizations (OPD) in Limapuluh Kota Regency totaling 43 OPDs with sampling using purposive sampling so that the research sample totaled 43 data samples. The data collection technique used a quantitative method approach, namely using a questionnaire filled out by the research sample. Data analysis used path analysis and was processed with the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 27. The results of the study found that: (1) the internal control system has an effect on agency performance accountability; (2) the competence of the apparatus has an effect on agency performance accountability; (3) the internal control system has an effect on organizational commitment; (4) the competence of the apparatus has an effect on organizational commitment; (5) organizational commitment has an effect on agency performance accountability; (6) organizational commitment mediates the effect of the internal control system on agency performance accountability; and (7) organizational commitment mediates the effect of apparatus competence on agency performance accountability. The implication of the results of this study is that emphasizing the strengthening of organizational commitment must be the main focus because it is proven to play a significant mediator role between the internal control system and the competence of the apparatus on performance accountability. The recommendation of this study is that the Fifty City Regency Government strengthen its internal control system through periodic audits, transparent reporting, and strict supervision procedures to prevent fraud

Abstract

The global climate crisis has intensified the urgency to develop sustainable and ethical environmental protection models. Deforestation, a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, has led to severe ecological and socio-economic consequences. In Indonesia, where forest biodiversity is critical to ecosystem stability and community livelihoods, innovative solutions rooted in local values are essential. This study aims to examine the potential of forest waqf as a strategic model within Islamic social finance to address environmental degradation and promote sustainable development. Using a qualitative research design with a library research approach, this study analyzes data obtained from journal articles, government reports, and official publications. The findings reveal that forest waqf through mechanisms such as agroforestry, ecotourism, and sustainable land management offers a dual function in ecological restoration and community empowerment. Case studies from Aceh and Bogor highlight the model’s effectiveness in reforesting degraded land while generating income for local populations. However, challenges remain, including limited public awareness, governance gaps, and regulatory barriers. Strategic recommendations include improving legal frameworks, integrating digital tools, and fostering multi-sectoral collaboration. Overall, forest waqf represents a promising solution for climate action that aligns with religious, ecological, and economic values, and could be expanded to other biodiversity-rich regions.
