Abstract

This paper explores the phenomenon of possession (kesurupan) from multiple perspectives, including theological, psychological, and cultural viewpoints. The study highlights how possession is understood and interpreted differently across various traditions, particularly within Indonesian culture. It examines the relationship between possession and spiritual beliefs, addressing both the communal and individual dimensions of the experience. The paper also delves into the psychological implications of possession, analyzing how mental health professionals approach cases of possession in contrast to religious practitioners. From a theological perspective, it is often interpreted as a demonic phenomenon, while empirical studies generally categorize it as a form of dissociative experience. By synthesizing these diverse perspectives, the paper aims to provide a synthetic understanding of possession, offering insights into its complex nature and the various factors that contribute to its manifestation. The study concludes with reflections on the implications for conversation  between religious and psychological perspectives for Christian ministry in Indonesia.

Abstract

One of the problems in Christian families occurs when parents shift the responsibility of educating their children to educational institutions. Even if they finally realise the biblical guidance that parents are responsible for educating their children, they do not understand the method of teaching in the home. The biblical text, Deuteronomy 6:7-9, primarily addresses this issue. The purpose of this study is to show the pattern of repetition as a method of teaching in the household of God's people. The research was conducted by applying exegetical procedures to the target passage, aided by a literature review. Biblical commentaries and biblical journal articles were used to interpret the meaning of the passage. An exploration of the target passage shows that the household teaching method mandated in Deuteronomy 6:7-9 is based on love for God and has three important components: the discipline of repetition, fellowship with God, and social norms in the community. Ultimately, the simple repetition method is effective in cultivating children's spirituality.

Abstract

Humans are fragile beings, and even the knowledge they possess may not save them from eternal punishment. Humanity needs God for salvation, once and for all, a salvation that cannot be lost, as outlined in the doctrine of salvation in Evangelical Theology. This paper aims to historically elaborate on the concept of salvation in Evangelical theology and the biblical foundations of Evangelical beliefs, where it is not salvation that is lost, but rather humans themselves who are lost from God's presence for not accepting Christ as their Savior. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative method with a literature study approach, it gathers sources as evidence of the long journey of the Christian faith. Ultimately, through Evangelical doctrinal perspectives, it can open doors to proclaim salvation for everyone amid the challenges of the times.

Abstract

Nowadays, the problem that occurs in the context of marriage is the occurrence of interfaith marriage. Interfaith marriage in question is a marriage between a man and a woman of different religions and each maintains the religion they adhere to. Therefore, the question of how the Christian faith actually responds to the pros and cons of interfaith marriage is important to review again. Furthermore, who or what is the basis for the continuation of marriage according to the biblical context will be traced through Deuteronomy 7:1-11. The biblical search was carried out hermeneutically-exegegetically using various related literature. This question then became the main problem to be studied in this paper. The findings from the biblical search of Deuteronomy 7:1-11 show that LORD is the basis and key to the continuation of an ideal marriage in order to respond to the pros and cons of interfaith marriage.

Abstract

Nature is part of human life. But, the humans as imago Dei often abuse their superiority over other creations. The Bible tells that God formed humans from the Earth in His image and likeness, then breathed into them (Gen. 2:7). Glory, honor, and power to subdue the earth and all other creations are given to humans (Gen. 1:26-28; 5:1; 9:6). Humans understand this as justification for acts of control and destructive-exploitative treatment of nature and all creations and to fulfill human interests. So Theology as part of human reflection on this reality needs to respond to do something about this phenomenon. Through the Story of the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2: 8-17, it is the story of the beginning of harmonious creation according to God's will which is described as something good. This becomes a discussion starter about how the ideal picture of the relationship of each creation with an ecological hermeneutic approach finds and shows the complexity of the relationship between God, Man and other creations. This story becomes a picture of relational theology as an effort to bring each other to life as fellow creations on this earth.
