Abstract

Serang District is the area with the largest population proportion but has the smallest area in Serang City. Population growth that is not accompanied by an increase in area will decrease the quality of the urban environment. Therefore, a city needs to provide Green Open Space (RTH) to balance the environment. The image quality will be better if you use UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) or drone technology to display RTH visualization. Thus, this study aims to determine public green space area using drones and analyze its suitability for green space needs based on the area and population in Serang District, Banten. This research is quantitative research with a descriptive approach and used the survey method. The results showed that Serang District has a public green open space of 108,348.81 m2 (0.41% of the area). Meanwhile the calculation results of the need for public green open space that must be met based on the area are 5,176,000 m², where 20% of total area and based on the population is 4,523,920 m². The urban areas in Serang District had not been able to meet the needs of green open space in terms of area and population.

Abstract

The existence of plastic waste on Pengambengan Beach become worrying and needs attention. Jembrana district is the most significant contributor to plastic waste, at around 53.9 tons/day dominated by HDPE and PE (46%) as product packaging waste.. The Jembrana community, dominated by fishermen, experienced an increase in operational cost due to an upsurge in diesel price, which is the primary fuel for Slerek traditional ship in fishing to the sea. Therefore, the high number of plastic waste presented in Jembrana district is potentially utilized to generate alternative diesel fuel using pyrolysis technique. Results showed that the experimental test of “SHARK” machine for 1 hour could produce 800 ml of fuel from 1 kg of chopped plastic waste and spend 600 gram of 3 kg LPG gas. The conversion value of plastic waste into diesel alternative fuel can reduce operational costs by up to 66%. The sustainable application of the “SHARK” machine can help fulfil the fuel needs of local fishermen in fishing and reduce piles of plastic waste in Jembrana district. The calculation showed that the amount of plastic waste produced in Jembrana per day could meet the fuel needs of 107 Slerek ships to the sea.

Abstract

Domestic wastewater service with a piped system by PDAM Kota Bandung currently has not reached evenly and thoroughly to remote residential areas. In 2008, PDAM collaborated with the Environmental Services Program-United States Agency for International Development (ESP-USAID) built MCK Plus (MCK equipped with a bio-digester septic tank). This research was conducted at RW 07 Tamansari, Lebak Siliwangi Village, Bandung City and was carried out in March-May 2023. The data collected was primary data from observations, questionnaires, and interviews, while secondary data from literature studies. The survey results found that 8 MCK were abandoned and had been used as storage areas (warehouses) as well as chicken coops. For the service of 35 households, the required rectangular septic tank are 3.2 m wide, 9.6 m long, 3.2m high and the volume of the septic tank is 61.5m3. From the calculation results, the biogas produced per day can be used for cooking activities for a maximum of 2 people. Septic tanks as a technology for treating wastewater have a good impact on society if used effectively. To get the maximum potential from implementing a septic tank, it requires not only community participation, but also collaborative government institutions to support this program.

Abstract

Human activities can produce solid waste called garbage. The potential for waste generation in Kapanewon Mlati, Sleman Regency is large, it can reach 60.55 tonnes/day. This study aims to determine the sources and types of waste, methods of waste disposal and management in the community, and then formulate a community-based waste management strategy. The method used in this study is a survey research method that emphasizes survey methods that emphasize primary data surveys and is complemented by secondary data. The results showed that the most common types and sources of waste that occurred at the study sites were food waste and plastic. The method of disposing of waste in the three activities, be it settlements, the economy or offices, is mostly used as a container for trash and/or plastic and then disposes of it in a certain place. The majority of waste management still uses a collection and transportation system with third parties. There are still a few settlements that have waste management institutions and/or movements.

Abstract

The organic material input that enters the waters of Ambon Bay spreads to the mangrove ecosystem area and is partially deposited in sediments, including the mangrove area of Poka Village. This study aims to analyze greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 and CH4) in mangrove sediments in the Poka Village area. The gas collection was carried out using a cylindrical cap method placed on three types of sediment, namely sandy silt (LPs), muddy sand (PsL), and sand (Ps). Gas concentration analysis refers to the gas chromatography method. The results showed that the largest CO2 emissions were found in LPs sediments, 138.94 mg/m2/hour. Meanwhile, the lowest emission was found in PsL sediment, which was 20.69 mg/m2/hour. In addition, the largest CH4 emission was also found in the LPs sediment type, 0.2154 mg/m2/hour. Meanwhile, the lowest CH4 emission was found in the Ps sediment type, 0.0447 mg/m2/hour. Greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 and CH4) in mangrove sediments on the Coast of Poka, Ambon Bay, are still relatively low compared to Indonesia's average emissions from other mangrove ecosystems. The sandy-mud sediment type has greater emissions than the silty-sand and sand sediment types which are influenced by the availability of total organic carbon in each mangrove sediment.

Abstract

Boezem Morokrembangan has a dual function, i.e. as a flood control and urban wastewater reservoir. This research was conducted in the dry and rainy seasons with a period of 10 days each. Water samples were collected at 5 sampling points with parameter analysis such as COD, DO, pH, TS, TSS, and temperature. The results showed that the boezem water quality was heavily polluted with pollutant concentration exceeding the quality standards of class IV for water bodies. Wastewater characteristics indicated that values tended to be better in the rainy season than the dry season. The pollutant load at the boezem inlet was 2x greater than the pollutant load at the boezem outlet. As a result, the amount of pollutant load that goes into the Boezem Morokrembangan caused the boezem loses its self-purification ability. The performance of reducing wastewater parameters was only able to produce efficiencies of 22.10%, 8.65%, and 19.50% for COD, TS, and TSS parameters, respectively in the rainy season.

Abstract

The skin crackers industry in Segoroyoso village produces liquid waste with high levels of BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, oil and grease. There is no liquid waste processing yet. Liquid waste is dumped into the Pesing River and has the potential to cause water quality degradation. This research aims to analyze the quality of the industrial liquid waste, the river water quality status, and evaluate stream standards. The pollution index method is applied. Sampling was conducted in October 2022 through purposive sampling at the industrial outlet, river before and after the outlet, and irrigation channels. The research results that only the pH parameter meets the water quality standards in the luquid waste. River water quality shows that BOD, COD, ammonia, oil and grease at several points do not meet quality standards. The river water quality status categorized as meeting standards at point before the outlet with an IP value of 0.47 and slightly polluted at the point after the outlet and irrigation channel with IP values of 4.32 and 3.49. The evaluation of stream standards reveals that COD, BOD, and ammonia do not meet river water quality standards with a value of 37.61 mg/L; 7.13 mg/L; and 0.52 mg/L.

Abstract

Benzene (C6H6) is an aromatic hydrocarbon compound that is widely used in everyday life. However, the use of benzene compounds can endanger the environment and health because benzene is carcinogenic. This research was conducted to examine the negative effects of benzene as a trigger for disease and cancer. This research uses a descriptive qualitative analysis method to describe the process and negative impacts of benzene on humans and the environment. Benzene can settle in water or plants which are a source of animal feed and enter the food chain cycle, then reaches humans. Exposure to benzene, either directly or indirectly, can cause cancer in humans and animals. The direct impact of consuming food or drinks containing high levels of benzene can cause vomiting, stomach irritation, dizziness, drowsiness, seizures, rapid heart rate, coma, and death. Apart from the level of exposure, metabolic processes determined by genetics are factors that influence the impact. Humans with a high metabolic rate have a direct correlation with benzene levels in the body. The results of the paper conclude that benzene has a bad influence on living creatures which disrupts the final results of living creatures' metabolism.
