Abstract

Both poverty alleviation and environmental management cannot be separated from Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Development is carried out in an integrated manner in all dimensions: economy, environment, and social. The poor have a high dependence on the environment so that it is suspected to cause a decrease in environmental quality. On the other hand, the declining quality of the environment will further exacerbate the poverty condition of the community. This study aims to see the causal relationship between poverty and environmental quality, and vice versa, in East Java. Panel data analysis of 38 regencies in East Java during 2018-2021 shows that increasing poverty has a negative impact on environmental quality. On the other hand, a decrease in environmental quality also has an impact on an increase in the number of poor people. Thus, in East Java, due to that causal relationship, poverty alleviation policies can be carried out in line with the improvement of environmental quality.

Abstract

Waste is a major problem throughout Indonesia. One example of waste management is the waste bank. The waste bank is an institution for managing waste effectively, with community involvement. This research applies descriptive and quantitative methods. The research aims to determine the impact of the Wangun Waste Bank on the welfare of the community and the environment in Batukuwung Village, Padarincang District, Serang Regency, Banten Province. The existence of a waste bank in Batukuwung Village has a good impact on people's welfare because it can increase people's income, so that it can help the community's economy. Apart from that, the existence of this waste bank can reduce the number of unemployed people because some people become waste bank managers. With reduced piles of waste the source of disease is also reduced. In general, waste banks have a lot of positive impressions on the surrounding environment and people's welfare.

Abstract

The crisis regarding the final waste disposal site (TPA) in various regencies and cities is caused by the waste management that still relies on the collection and transport system and disposes of it to the TPA. The 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Waste Processing Site (TPS) plays an important role in waste management on a regional scale. TPS 3R makes it easier to handle waste, because does not require a large area and it closer from the houses to waste collection. This study aims to analyze the potential waste utilization in Ciangsana Village as an effort to reduce waste and support national policies on waste management. The study was conducted through a survey of waste source mapping, waste generation, characteristics and composition. Furthermore, data analysis is carried out to select the appropriate processing technique. The results showed that the composition of waste in Ciangsana Village consisted of 50.3% food waste, 15.4% plastic, 8.5% paper/box wood, 2.3% cloth, rubber and leather, 1.3% metal and glass and 17.5% residual. The TPST-3R which is equipped with waste processing into RDF and BSF in Ciangsana is expected to reduce the waste that is disposed of in the TPA by 70-80%.

Abstract

Water balance or water avalibility that is not equal with the increasing water demand is a problem often encountered in water resources. The Cikeruh sub-watershed is one of the upstream parts of the Citarum watershed which has a water deficit. These problems require policy options in realizing sustainable use of water resources. The research aims to analyze the index and sustainability status of water supply in the Cikeruh sub-watershed and determining sensitive attributes of each sustainability dimension, namely the ecological, economic, social and institutional dimensions. The data analysis method uses the MDS (Multi-Dimensional Scaling) with the Rapfish software. The data used includes primary and secondary data.. The instruments for collecting primary data were questionnaires and structured questions to stakeholders. The result show that the level of sustainability of water supply in the Cikeruh Sub-watershed is generally categorized as quite sustainable (57,68%). The results of leverage analysis describes ten attributes that affect the levels of sustainability, namely the maintenance of the catchment area, water availability, availability of funds, other economic resources, farmers' income, transfer of land ownership, community understanding, community participation, coordination between institutions, and cooperation. By optimizing the most sensitive attributes, the sustainability of water supply could be improved.

Abstract

The need for energy resources is increasing every year. Meanwhile, reserves of fossil energy sources are decreasing and will run out over time, such as coal, oil and natural gas. The contribution from the burning of oil and natural gas causes emissions that can pollute the earth. Biogas is a renewable energy. environmentally friendly and has the opportunity to be developed as an alternative energy that is starting to be taken into account. In this case the government is trying to develop renewable energy throughout Indonesia as stated in Government Regulation Number 79 of 2014 concerning National Energy Policy. This qualitative research aims to determine the use of biogas in Indonesia taken from various studies in several regions in Indonesia by reviewing previous studies to provide additional explanations about the obstacles and solutions to biogas development in Indonesia.

Abstract

Komodo Village on Komodo Island is part of the Komodo National Park area, which is inhabited by a community known as the Ata Modo. The government's development of Komodo Village into a tourist village is responded to positively by the local community in various ways, including homestay services, boat taxis, naturalist guides and initiating the opening of tracking routes in the village. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research regarding the perceptions, knowledge, and attitudes toward the planned activity. This study used a semi-structured interview method using a questionnaire. The sample of this research is the Komodo Village’s community, namely as many as 81 heads of families covering 5 hamlets. Most of the people in Komodo Village already know about the existence of the tracking route (85%) and agree with the opening of the route, namely 46% (strongly agree) and 44% (agree). In general, the community presumes they will gain benefit economically and socio-culturally from the official opening of the tracking route. However, to continue to protect the biodiversity on Komodo Island and build sustainable ecotourism, it is necessary to study and determine regulations for tourism activities on the tracking route by involving the community.

Abstract

Based on data from the Jember Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), in 2019 there were 27 villages experiencing drought. This data continues to increase from year to year even though Jember has several watersheds and is surrounded by mountains and hills with water sources, in fact it has not been able to prevent Jember Regency from drought. This is an irony, especially for Jember Regency which is known for its fertile plantation areas. Environmental damage and the decline in the quality of nature is a reality that cannot be denied. The Aims of the research is to explore the understanding of women in Jember Regency about climate change. Using a survey method, this research was conducted on 140 women in Jember district. This research found that in general women support reducing the rate of climate change but most women do not understand what are the indications of climate change and government initiatives to stop climate change. The majority of women also agree that the role of the media in disseminating climate change is still lacking, so even though women generally hear about climate change, they generally do not understand what climate change is.
