Abstract

The waste generated in Nusa Lembongan is processed by open dumping. Open dumping tends to have a negative impact on the environment, one of which is leachate. The leachate will have an impact on the surrounding ecosystem if it is not safe. Treatment can be applied in various ways, one of which is a waste stabilization pond, but this technology will not be enough to add further treatment. The purpose of this study is to determine the appropriate treatment technology for further treatment of leachate at the Nusa Lembongan TPA. This research uses literature study and analytic hierarchy process for decision analysis. There are three alternatives given, namely biofilter, wetland, and anaerobic baffle reactor (ABR). The criteria used are cost estimation, land area, and BOD allowance, alternative use of ABR has the highest weight value compared to the other two technologies. This is because ABR requires a low land area compared to the other two alternatives. This fits with the limited land available in Nusa Lembongan.

Abstract

Area scale TPS 3R is one of the steps taken to reduce the generation of waste entering the landfill. Aspects that support the operation of TPS 3R are legal, technical, institutional, financial, and community participation arrangements. This study aims to determine the steps to optimize TPS 3R as a contribution to reducing waste in the landfill. The research was conducted at two TPS 3R in Bandung City, namely the TPS 3R Saling Asih II and TPS 3R Hikmah. A quantitative descriptive analysis method was applied based on the TPS 3R Technical Guidelines FY 2021 so that a description of TPS 3R and a comparison of the two TPS 3Rs were obtained. The functioning status of TPS 3R Saling Asih II is very good with a total value of 19.15 and TPS 3R Hikmah has a good status with a total value of 17.75. The biggest aspects supporting the functioning of TPS 3R are technical aspects and institutional aspects. Optimization of TPS 3R can be done by socializing waste management to the community in collaboration with stakeholders, and increasing the competence of TPS 3R officers in order to improve the performance of TPS 3R.

Abstract

Slow Sand Filter (SSF) is a simple technology to improve water quality. In this research, the effect of retention time and filter age towards the effectivity of SSF in decreasing turbidity and organic content in peat water was investigated. Another filter using commercial activated carbon was also used to treat the peat water samples as a comparison. The results of this study shows that retention time affects the effectivity of SSF and activated carbon in decreasing turbidity and organic contents. Activated carbon needed a lower retention time to give an optimal turbidity decrease compared to SSF. While activated carbon needed 2 hours of retention time to give an optimum result in decreasing turbidity, SSF needed at least 3 hours of retention time. Retention time appeared to also significantly affect the decrease in organic content. This is probably due to the life cycle of the bacteria living in the SSF and the time it took to have a sorption equilibrium in the activated carbon filter. The age of the filter also signifcantly affects the performance of SSF, in which older filter gave better results in removing organic content in peat water

Abstract

The existence of plastic waste on Pengambengan Beach become worrying and needs attention. Jembrana district is the most significant contributor to plastic waste, at around 53.9 tons/day dominated by HDPE and PE (46%) as product packaging waste.. The Jembrana community, dominated by fishermen, experienced an increase in operational cost due to an upsurge in diesel price, which is the primary fuel for Slerek traditional ship in fishing to the sea. Therefore, the high number of plastic waste presented in Jembrana district is potentially utilized to generate alternative diesel fuel using pyrolysis technique. Results showed that the experimental test of “SHARK” machine for 1 hour could produce 800 ml of fuel from 1 kg of chopped plastic waste and spend 600 gram of 3 kg LPG gas. The conversion value of plastic waste into diesel alternative fuel can reduce operational costs by up to 66%. The sustainable application of the “SHARK” machine can help fulfil the fuel needs of local fishermen in fishing and reduce piles of plastic waste in Jembrana district. The calculation showed that the amount of plastic waste produced in Jembrana per day could meet the fuel needs of 107 Slerek ships to the sea.

Abstract

Domestic wastewater service with a piped system by PDAM Kota Bandung currently has not reached evenly and thoroughly to remote residential areas. In 2008, PDAM collaborated with the Environmental Services Program-United States Agency for International Development (ESP-USAID) built MCK Plus (MCK equipped with a bio-digester septic tank). This research was conducted at RW 07 Tamansari, Lebak Siliwangi Village, Bandung City and was carried out in March-May 2023. The data collected was primary data from observations, questionnaires, and interviews, while secondary data from literature studies. The survey results found that 8 MCK were abandoned and had been used as storage areas (warehouses) as well as chicken coops. For the service of 35 households, the required rectangular septic tank are 3.2 m wide, 9.6 m long, 3.2m high and the volume of the septic tank is 61.5m3. From the calculation results, the biogas produced per day can be used for cooking activities for a maximum of 2 people. Septic tanks as a technology for treating wastewater have a good impact on society if used effectively. To get the maximum potential from implementing a septic tank, it requires not only community participation, but also collaborative government institutions to support this program.

Abstract

Jalan Jagir Wonokromo in Surabaya City, East Java is a secondary arterial road with an average traffic density of 120,000 units per day and is surrounded by office, residential and commercial areas. The following conditions cause a lot of CO2 emissions resulting from anthropogenic activities that occur. The green line is the right solution and mitigation in tackling this problem, so it is important to know the ability to absorb CO2 from vegetation and the optimization strategy that can be applied. The research was conducted in the range from March to April 2023 with observations of composition and vegetation components as the basis for estimating carbon uptake using an allometric equation approach. Based on the research conducted, the CO2 absorption capability of the Jagir Wonokromo green line vegetation is 250,63 ton CO2-eq/year, which is a sufficient amount for CO2 absorption needs at that location. The optimization strategy undertaken includes intensification, extensification and mitigation.
