Jurnal Media Riset Ekonomi Pembangunan (MedREP) is a peer-reviewed journal that provides a forum for scientific works pertaining to Development Economics. This journal was first published since March 2024 by the Universitas Negeri Padang .This journal published four times a year and has e-ISSN 3032-6400. MedREP is expected to be used as a reference for academicians in writing a scientific, relevant, and dynamic article to enhance the new generation that is found in writing an academic paper. The Redaction Board accepts only research in the field of legal science that already in the form of a journal article to be considered for publication. The aims of MedREP are to provides immediate open access to its content in the principle of making research freely available to the public as a support for the greater global exchange of knowledge. The language used in this journal is English or Indonesian. Abstract

This study analyzes the effectiveness and contribution of hotel and restaurant tax revenues to the Regional Original Revenue (Pendapatan Asli Daerah, PAD) of Pekanbaru City from 2021 to 2023. Using a quantitative approach, the research relies on secondary data from the financial reports of the Pekanbaru City Government. The findings reveal that the effectiveness of hotel and restaurant taxes is categorized as very effective, with an average effectiveness of 94% and 106%, respectively. However, the contribution of these taxes to total PAD is relatively low, averaging 5% for hotel taxes (categorized as very low) and 14% for restaurant taxes (categorized as low). These results suggest a need to optimize the potential of these sectors through strategies such as increasing tax awareness, promoting tourism, and leveraging technology. The study recommends diversifying PAD sources and fostering collaborative partnerships with business operators to support sustainable development in Pekanbaru City.. Abstract

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, educated workers are workers who gain expertise through formal education such as schools or universities with the highest education completed by senior high school. The difficulty of educated workers getting jobs with high requirements, this study aims to determine and analyze how the influence of wages, investment (PMA, PMDN, regional equity participation) and government spending on the absorption of educated labor. The data used is obtained from the West Sumatra Central Statistics Agency and the Ministry of Finance's djpk in 2018-2023 with 19 districts / cities using the panel data regression method processed through eviews12 the results of the analysis show that regional equity participation is the only independent variable that has a negative and significant effect, While the variable of PMDN wages and government spending is not significant on the absorption of educated labor in 2018-2023 policy recommendations for further research can be carried out research on other factors that affect the absorption of educated labor in West Sumatra. The author suggests that the government review the wage policy and job search requirements in West Sumatra, it is hoped that the government can also pay attention to the quality of human resources in order to compete, and it is hoped that future researchers will add other variables to better represent the state of employment in Indonesia.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to analyze the impact of government programs on agricultural household expenditures in West Sumatra. Utilizing data from the 2023 National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas), the research employs multiple linear regression methods to evaluate the relationship between independent variables government programs, credit access, and internet access and expenditures on food, non-food, and total agricultural household expenses. The analysis results indicate that all independent variables have a positive and significant effect on household expenditures. Government programs and credit access improve food and non-food expenditures, while internet access has a more substantial impact on total expenditures. These findings underscore the importance of government intervention in enhancing the welfare of farming households, especially in facing complex economic challenges. The study offers recommendations for the government to enhance the effectiveness of social assistance programs and access to resources that support the welfare of farming communities in West Sumatra.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh program pemerintah terhadap pengeluaran rumah tangga pertanian di Sumatera Barat. Menggunakan data dari Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (Susenas) 2023, penelitian ini mengadopsi metode regresi linear berganda untuk mengevaluasi hubungan antara variabel independen, yaitu program pemerintah, akses kredit, dan akses internet, terhadap pengeluaran makanan, non-makanan, dan total rumah tangga pertanian. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa semua variabel independen berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap pengeluaran rumah tangga. Program pemerintah dan akses kredit meningkatkan pengeluaran makanan dan non-makanan, sedangkan akses internet memberikan dampak yang lebih besar terhadap pengeluaran total. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya intervensi pemerintah dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan rumah tangga petani, terutama dalam menghadapi tantangan ekonomi yang kompleks. Penelitian ini memberikan rekomendasi bagi pemerintah untuk meningkatkan efektivitas program bantuan sosial dan akses terhadap sumber daya yang mendukung kesejahteraan masyarakat petani di Sumatera Barat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of women as professionals, women's involvement in parliament, and women's income contributions on the economy of cities/regencies in West Sumatra. This research utilizes secondary data sourced from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) from 2017 to 2022. The study employs an equation model using the Random Effect Model (REM). The findings reveal that women as professionals have a positive and significant impact on the economy, women's involvement in parliament has no impact on the economy, and women's income contributions have a positive and significant effect on the economy of cities/regencies in West Sumatra.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify factors that can influence poverty in households in West Sumatra. The data used in this study are cross-sectional data from the 2023 National Economic Survey (SUSENAS). This study uses a logistic regression model to analyze the factors that influence the poverty situation of households living in West Sumatra. This study reveals that the level of education of the head of the household, household size, employment status of the head of the household and type of head of the household have a positive and significant effect on the poverty status of households in West Sumatra.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of tourism facilities on employment opportunities and the number of tourists in Indonesia from 2017 to 2021. Quantitative research type. The object of this research was carried out in all provinces in Indonesia for the period 2017 to 2021. The type of data used is secondary data that researchers obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Indonesia. The data analysis method used is simultaneous panel data regression, with the chow test, hausman test and hypothesis test (F test, and t test), the simultaneous panel data regression estimation model used is the Common Effect Model, data processing using the E-Views 10 program. The results of this study indicate that together the variables (1) number of tourists, hotels and restaurants do not have a significant effect on employment opportunities in Indonesia. (2) employment opportunities, tourist attractions and tourism costs have a significant effect on the number of tourists in Indonesia. Partially: (3) hotels have a positive and significant effect on employment opportunities in Indonesia. (4) restaurants also have a positive and significant effect on employment opportunities in Indonesia. (5) The number of tourists shows a positive and significant effect on employment opportunities in Indonesia. (6) Tourist attractions have a positive but not significant influence on the number of tourists in Indonesia. (7) Tourism costs have a negative and significant influence on the number of tourists in Indonesia. (8) Job opportunities have a positive and significant impact on the number of tourists in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the tourism sector on economic growth in West Sumatra Province. In this study, the variables used include domestic tourist visits, the number of accommodations in non-star hotels, and the number of restaurants. The data used are secondary data from 2017 to 2022, obtained from the Central Statistics Agency of West Sumatra Province. The analysis method applied is panel data regression with the Random Effect Model (REM) using E-views 12 software. The results of the study show that domestic tourist visits and accommodations in non-star hotels have a positive and significant effect on economic growth, while the number of restaurants does not have a significant effect. The coefficient of determination of 36.95% indicates that the independent variables are able to explain the economic growth variables in West Sumatra. This study suggests that local governments should maximize the potential of the tourism sector as a strategy to increase regional economic growth.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of: (1) GDPR growth rate, (2) open unemployment rate, and (3) average length of schooling on urban poverty levels. This research uses secondary data with a quantitative type of panel data research, namely a combination of 2015-2022 time series data and cross section data from 34 provinces in Indonesia. This research uses the panel data regression method. The results of the regression analysis show that: (1) the rate of GRDP has a positive and significant effect on the level of urban poverty in Indonesia, (2) the level of open unemployment has a positive and significant effect on the level of urban poverty, and (3) the average number of years of schooling is over the age of 15 year has a significant negative effect on urban poverty levels in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between demographic dynamics and economic growth across islands in Indonesia consisting of the island of Sumatera, Java, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Maluku-Papua from 2014 to 2023. Specifically, this study investigates the impact of productive-age population growth, dependency ratio, and capital growth on economic growth between island in Indonesia. Using panel data analysis with the Random Effect Model (REM) approach, the study findings reveal that the increase in the productive-age population and capital growth partialy has a not significant negative effect on between island in Indonesia economic growth. Meanwhile, the dependency ratio also has a negative effect on economic growth in Indonesia, although the impact is significant. Among these regions, Kalimantan shows the strongest economic performance, while the islands of Bali and Nusa Tenggara face the greatest challenges in utilizing their demographic dividends. These findings offer policy insights to optimize Indonesia's demographic transition.

Abstract

Dengan menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dan data sekunder dalam bentuk data panel-analisis cross-sectional terhadap 19 kabupaten/kota di Sumatera Barat dan data runtun waktu dari tahun 2014 hingga 2023, studi ini berupaya untuk mengetahui dampak ketimpangan pendapatan, kesehatan, pendidikan, dan pertumbuhan ekonomi terhadap tingkat kemiskinan di wilayah-wilayah tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Tingkat kemiskinan secara statistik signifikan dan positif dipengaruhi oleh kesenjangan pendapatan di 19 kabupaten/kota di Sumatera Barat. (2). Tingkat kemiskinan secara statistik signifikan dan negatif dipengaruhi oleh faktor kesehatan (3). Tingkat kemiskinan secara statistik signifikan dan negatif oleh variabel pendidikan. (4) Tingkat kemiskinan dipengaruhi secara signifikan dan positif oleh pertumbuhan ekonomi di 19 kabupaten/kota di Sumatera Barat.
