Abstract

This research aims to understand the impact of the shift to digital technology on the work of university librarians, identify strategies to stay relevant in the digital age, and improve library services. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, collects data through interviews with university librarians who experience changes due to digital technology, and analyzes related documents and literature to identify their patterns, challenges, and strategies in dealing with these changes. This research showed that the shift to digital technology has had a significant impact on the role of university librarians. Librarians must now manage electronic resources and develop new skills, such as information technology, metadata management, and digital preservation. They also need to be able to navigate the complex digital information landscape, promote electronic resources, and collaborate with users in the development of digital resources. In addition to technical ability, librarians must be creative and innovative, willing to experiment with new approaches and technologies, and look at problem-solving options. Innovation is key to staying relevant in the digital age. Previous studies have also highlighted the importance of collaboration with users and a focus on community needs as important elements in developing effective library services. This research reveals that the shift to digital technology has significantly changed the role of university librarians. They must develop in technology skills, collaborate with users, and be innovative in facing digital challenges. The ability to manage, promote electronic resources, and understand community needs is important in maintaining the relevance of librarians in the digital age.

Abstract

Digital cultural preservation is becoming increasingly important in the digital 4.0 era, where the digital native generation has a central role in the use of digital technology. Libraries and librarians as custodians of knowledge and culture must engage the digital native generation in cultural digital preservation efforts. However, effective strategies and approaches need to be developed to ensure their active participation in this preservation. This study takes a qualitative approach to data collection, including in-depth interviews and a literature review. Data analysis was conducted using thematic techniques to identify strategies and approaches used in engaging the digital native generation. This study found that, several strategies and approaches were found to be effective in engaging the digital native generation in cultural digital preservation. Firstly, libraries should provide easy and intuitive access to cultural digital resources for the digital native generation. Second, a collaborative and participatory approach involves them in the process of curating and determining the direction of cultural digital preservation. Third, training and educational programs should be organized to improve digital literacy and understanding of the importance of digital cultural preservation. This study concluded that engaging digital native in digital cultural preservation requires a holistic and multifaceted approach. Libraries and librarians need to adopt strategies that are responsive to the needs and preferences of digital native. In the digital era 4.0, digital cultural preservation is not just a task for libraries, but a shared responsibility to ensure the sustainability and accessibility of digital cultural heritage for current and future generations.

Abstract

Art is a skill in creating a quality of work. Indonesia itself is famous for its many arts from Sabang to Merauke. The number of arts that exist around the community makes every region in Indonesia have dances, paintings, or carvings typical of their respective regions, especially in the Java Island area there is the art of Kuda Lumping. Kuda Lumping art performance commonly called Jaran Kepang is one of the original Indonesian traditional arts originating from Temanggung Regency, Central Java. This art is a featured art in Temanggung which is marked by the Jaran Kepang statue located in the eastern district park. Along with its development, the Jaran Kepang Temanggung dance no longer features stories about Diponegoro soldiers that characterize this dance. Some cultural initiators in Temanggung have modified the dance to include elements of Balinese art. Therefore, preservation is a fitting way to preserve and maintain an object or thing that does require protection, care, or preservation in the hope that the information remains. This research aims to preserve the performing arts of Jaran Kepang Temanggung with curative preservation through visual media, namely photography. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach method that aims to describe fully and deeply about various phenomena studied and the use of semiotic analysis techniques. The results of this research will be in the form of a photo presentation of the visual preservation of jaran kepang which is useful to facilitate the delivery of messages from the photo of jaran kepang itself. Although this cultural heritage has begun to compete fiercely with the influx of foreign cultures and arts, this dance still shows high appeal and becomes a performance that captivates the hearts of its audience. In this case, the protection and preservation of the art of jaran kepang is needed so that it will always be recognized by future generations.

Abstract

Digital preservation is an important process to maintain the authenticity of cultural heritage sites that are threatened by infrastructure development. Many cultural heritage sites have just been discovered recently and preservation is required to preserve them. The rapid development of infrastructure can threaten the existence of cultural heritage sites in the area. The aim of this research is that digital preservation is an effective solution for maintaining the authenticity of cultural heritage sites and facilitating access to information in the future. In the context of agrarian law, there is a question about how the law views which is more important, the preservation of cultural heritage sites or the community's need for infrastructure. This study used a qualitative research method with a case study approach at the “Sekaran Site”, Lesanpuro which was affected by the construction of the Pakis toll road exit, Malang. Interviews were conducted with residents as well as analysis and documents available in the findings of the Sekaran cultural heritage site. The results of the study indicate that the use of digital technology and the development of digital platforms can assist in maintaining and communicating information about the Sekaran cultural heritage site. Digital preservation can also increase public awareness about the importance of preserving cultural heritage and can be an effective tool in overcoming the impact of infrastructure development on cultural heritage sites. In the case of the Sekaran Site, the Government is preserving the site by turning up to 17.5 meters from the starting point of the construction of the Malang Pandaan Toll Road. This was done after the discovery of piles of bricks arranged to resemble a building. In this case, digital preservation can assist in identifying threatened cultural heritage sites and facilitating the preservation process.

Abstract

Libraries have long been recognized as key institutions in democratizing access to knowledge and information, yet users with visual impairments still face significant barriers to accessing these resources. The purpose of this research is to explore how adaptive technologies can improve accessibility and inclusivity in libraries for users with visual impairments. Using a qualitative methodology involving in-depth interviews and content analysis of library websites, this study assessed the effectiveness of current adaptive technologies and identified barriers to their use. The results show that, although adaptive technologies such as screen readers and indoor navigation systems hold great potential to improve user experience, there are still gaps in implementation and library staff awareness of the specific needs of visually impaired users. The conclusions of this study emphasize the importance of holistic integration of adaptive technologies in library service strategies to ensure equal access. Based on these findings, this paper recommends better staff training, the development of strong inclusive policies, and collaboration with disabled people's organizations to improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of libraries, thus supporting wider social participation of visually impaired users.
