Abstract

This research investigates how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can optimize environmental conditions in libraries to preserve paper longevity. Fluctuations in temperature, often caused by varying visitor numbers, can affect both humidity and the durability of paper materials. AI algorithms help predict and adjust these fluctuations by utilizing temperature and humidity sensors, which provide real-time data essential for maintaining optimal conditions. The method involves placing sensors in key areas of the library to collect environmental data over six months, covering seasonal changes and usage variations. AI algorithms then analyze the data to predict temperature shifts, and the system automatically adjusts controls to keep the environment stable. The results show that AI significantly improves temperature stability compared to conventional methods, reducing fluctuations that affect paper durability. Humidity sensors prevent mold growth, and energy efficiency is improved by up to 15% through more precise control. The discussion highlights the importance of maintaining stable temperatures to ensure long-term preservation of paper materials. AI not only enhances operational efficiency but also improves the visitor experience by ensuring a comfortable environment. In conclusion, AI proves to be effective in managing library conditions. The integration of sensors and predictive algorithms offers a sustainable solution for preserving materials and improving energy efficiency, laying the groundwork for future advancements.

Abstract

The Naga community, a traditional Sundanese group living in Neglasari Village, West Java, utilizes plant diversity, including bamboo, for their daily needs. This research aims to investigate the diversity, utilization, and management of bamboo among the Naga community. The study employs a narrative literature review method focusing on the analysis and synthesis of various relevant literature sources to provide a comprehensive understanding of the topic. There are seven species and varieties of bamboo in the Naga community's gardens, namely Bambusa vulgaris (haur hejo and haur koneng), Gigantochloa apus (awi tali), Gigantochloa pseudoarundinacea (awi gede/awi gombong), Gigantochloa atter (awi temen), Gigantochloa atroviolacea (awi hideung), and Schizostachyum iraten (awi tamiyang). These bamboos are used for various purposes, such as building materials, traditional musical instruments, cooking utensils, and agricultural tools. The Naga community manages bamboo traditionally, which includes land preparation, planting, maintenance, pest control, harvesting, and utilization. These practices have contributed to the conservation of bamboo, essential for the sustainability of their livelihoods. The diverse knowledge and management practices of bamboo by the Naga community highlight the importance of support in preserving their cultural heritage and traditional knowledge. The findings provide insights and recommendations for sustainable bamboo management and conservation in Indonesia and globally. The government and relevant stakeholders are expected to support community conservation efforts by providing access to modern technology and resources

Abstract

The preservation of archives in tropical regions faces critical challenges from uncontrolled humidity, leading to material degradation and information loss. Current monitoring systems lack real-time capabilities and remain cost-prohibitive, while the integration of automation with international preservation standards represents an unexplored solution, particularly in developing regions. This research aims to develop and evaluate an Arduino-based humidity monitoring system compliant with ISO 11799:2016 standards for paper archive preservation, offering an economical and accessible solution for archival institutions. The research employs a qualitative prototyping methodology, conducted at the Administration and Archives Gallery of Brawijaya University. Data collection involved systematic observation and literature review. The system utilizes Arduino Uno Rev 3, DHT11 sensor, LCD display, and alert modules, programmed to monitor humidity levels according to ISO standards. Analysis followed systematic procedures for data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The developed system successfully implemented three-level humidity classification with corresponding visual and audio notifications. Testing confirmed accurate detection and classification of humidity fluctuations across different thresholds (0% to ±2%, ±2% to ±5%, and >±5%), with appropriate system responses through LED indicators and audio alerts. The Arduino-based solution demonstrated effective integration with ISO 11799:2016 standards, providing real-time monitoring capabilities. The research validates the feasibility of implementing affordable Arduino-based monitoring systems for archive preservation that meet international standards. While showing promise in humidity monitoring and early warning capabilities, further development is needed for data storage integration and expanded monitoring range while adapting to ISO 11799:2024 standards.

Abstract

Digital preservation is crucial in safeguarding Indonesia's cultural heritage by ensuring historical documents, artifacts, and traditional knowledge remain accessible for future generations. However, digitalization efforts face significant challenges related to technical infrastructure, legal frameworks, and public engagement. This study aims to analyze the role of libraries in digital preservation, identifying key benefits, challenges, and potential strategies for sustainable implementation. Using a thematic analysis approach, data was collected through an extensive literature review of 500 academic articles filtered into 16 relevant studies. The results indicate that digitalization enhances accessibility and efficiency in preserving cultural materials but is hindered by financial constraints, insufficient technological resources, and unclear legal protections. Moreover, the lack of trained professionals in digital archiving further complicates the implementation process. The findings highlight the need for stronger government policies, improved funding, and collaborative efforts among libraries, policymakers, and cultural institutions. The study recommends integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain to strengthen digital preservation strategies and ensure long-term sustainability. Additionally, hybrid approaches that merge digital and physical experiences can enhance public engagement with cultural heritage. This research contributes to the growing discourse on digital heritage conservation by providing a comprehensive analysis of current challenges and opportunities, serving as a valuable reference for stakeholders involved in cultural preservation and digital library management.

Abstract

Traditional games are an essential part of Indonesia's cultural heritage, yet they are gradually being replaced by digital entertainment, leading to concerns about their preservation. This study explores the role of community pioneers in Yogyakarta in preserving traditional games through digital initiatives. This study aims to identify and analyze digital strategies used by these pioneers to maintain the relevance of traditional games among younger generations. A qualitative research methodology with a case study approach was employed, involving field observations and interviews with key community pioneers across 14 districts (Kemantren) in Yogyakarta. The findings indicate that digital documentation, such as video tutorials and online content, is an effective strategy for preserving traditional games by making them accessible to a broader audience. Social media platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram, are crucial in promoting traditional games and engaging younger generations. Additionally, community-led initiatives such as competitions, integrating traditional games into educational curricula, and training workshops have successfully revived interest in these games while fostering cultural awareness. The conclusion highlights that a combination of digital innovation and community engagement is vital for sustaining traditional games in the modern era. This study recommends further exploration of interactive digital technologies, such as augmented reality, to enhance the preservation and promotion of traditional games on a larger scale. The findings offer valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and cultural organizations in developing sustainable strategies to protect intangible cultural heritage in the digital age.
