Jurnal GRAFTA is a peer-review journal, publishes scholarly articles of high quality on Religious Studies, theology, and related fields and particularly focuses on the metatheoretical conception of the relation between theology and theory of religion. Abstract

The development of the modern era, marked by technological advancement, social change, and shifts in people’s mindsets, requires the church to renew its faith-formation ministry. One important aspect that needs attention is the church curriculum so that it is not merely doctrinal but also relevant to the context of the congregation’s life. This article aims to examine the development of a contextual-based church curriculum by highlighting the challenges and opportunities that arise in the modern era. The method used is a theological and Christian education literature study, analyzing the concept of the church curriculum, the contextual approach, and the spiritual needs of today’s congregation. The study shows that the main challenges faced by the church include secularization, digital culture, pluralism, and the low involvement of younger generations in faith learning. However, the modern era also presents opportunities through the use of technology, participatory learning methods, and contextual approaches that connect God’s Word with the realities of daily life. The development of a contextual curriculum requires the church to understand the social, cultural, and psychological backgrounds of the congregation so that the faith-formation process becomes transformational rather than merely informational. Therefore, the church curriculum is expected to shape a mature, relevant, and applicable faith in everyday life. Abstrak Perkembangan zaman modern yang ditandai dengan kemajuan teknologi, perubahan sosial, serta pergeseran pola pikir masyarakat menuntut gereja untuk melakukan pembaruan dalam pelayanan pendidikan iman. Salah satu aspek penting yang perlu diperhatikan adalah kurikulum gereja, agar tidak hanya bersifat doktrinal tetapi juga relevan dengan konteks kehidupan jemaat. Artikel ini bertujuan mengkaji pengembangan kurikulum gereja berbasis kontekstual dengan menyoroti tantangan dan peluang yang muncul di era modern. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur teologis dan pendidikan Kristen, dengan menganalisis konsep kurikulum gereja, pendekatan kontekstual, serta kebutuhan spiritual jemaat masa kini. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa tantangan utama gereja meliputi pengaruh sekularisasi, budaya digital, pluralisme, serta rendahnya keterlibatan generasi muda dalam pembelajaran iman. Namun, era modern juga menghadirkan peluang berupa pemanfaatan teknologi, metode pembelajaran partisipatif, serta pendekatan kontekstual yang mampu menghubungkan firman Tuhan dengan realitas hidup jemaat. Pengembangan kurikulum kontekstual menuntut gereja untuk memahami latar belakang sosial, budaya, dan psikologis jemaat sehingga proses pendidikan iman menjadi transformasional, bukan sekadar informasional. Dengan demikian, kurikulum gereja diharapkan mampu membentuk iman yang dewasa, relevan, dan aplikatif dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology in the 21st century has presented both opportunities and challenges for young people. Social media and mobile devices have become an integral part of their daily lives, but on the other hand, they have the potential to degrade the quality of face-to-face interactions. Education in the digital age needs to respond to these changes with relevant strategies so that the character building of young people is not neglected. The phenomenon of phubbing, which is the behaviour of ignoring others in direct interaction because of a greater focus on mobile phones, has an impact on the mental health, social relationships, and spirituality of adolescents. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of Christian Religious Education as an instrument for preventing phubbing behaviour through the instilling of values of love, empathy, and digital ethical awareness. The research method used a descriptive-analytical approach, concluding that phubbing is a behaviour of ignoring social interaction due to focus on digital devices, which can be prevented through the application of moral education. Moral education is an important foundation in shaping adolescents' awareness to avoid the negative impacts of phubbing on mental and spiritual health. In addition, Christian Religious Education teachers play a strategic role in instilling digital ethics, so that awareness and control of phubbing behaviour can be achieved. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of the concept of digital ethics with theological values in Christian Religious Education as a preventive approach to phubbing behaviour, which not only emphasises general morality but also the formation of spiritual and relational awareness in the use of digital technology. Abstrak Perkembangan teknologi digital yang sangat pesat pada abad ke-21 telah menghadirkan peluang sekaligus tantangan bagi kehidupan remaja. Media sosial dan perangkat gawai menjadi bagian yang tidak terpisahkan dari keseharian mereka, namun di sisi lain memunculkan potensi degradasi kualitas interaksi tatap muka. Pendidikan di era digital perlu merespons perubahan ini dengan strategi yang relevan agar pembentukan karakter remaja tidak terabaikan. Fenomena  phubbing sebagai perilaku mengabaikan orang lain dalam interaksi langsung karena lebih fokus pada ponsel, yang berdampak pada kesehatan mental dan relasi sosial serta spiritualitas remaja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji peran Pendidikan Agama Kristen sebagai instrumen pencegahan perilaku phubbing melalui penanaman nilai-nilai kasih, empati, dan kesadaran etis digital. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa phubbing merupakan perilaku mengabaikan interaksi sosial akibat fokus pada perangkat digital yang dapat dicegah melalui penerapan pendidikan moral. Pendidikan moral menjadi dasar penting dalam membentuk kesadaran remaja agar terhindar dari dampak negatif phubbing terhadap kesehatan mental dan spiritual. Selain itu, guru Pendidikan Agama Kristen memegang peran strategis dalam menanamkan etika digital, sehingga kesadaran dan pengendalian perilaku phubbing dapat tercapai. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada integrasi konsep etika digital dengan nilai-nilai teologis dalam Pendidikan Agama Kristen sebagai pendekatan preventif terhadap perilaku phubbing, yang tidak hanya menekankan aspek moralitas umum tetapi juga pembentukan kesadaran spiritual dan relasional dalam penggunaan teknologi digital.

Abstract

Christian Religious Education (CRE) plays a central role in shaping children's faith identity amid the rapid pace of globalisation and digitalisation. Rapid social change has led children to learn more from digital media than from their families or schools, often neglecting the values of faith that should form the basis of their lives. This reality creates a gap between the formal teaching of faith and the actualisation of faith in daily behaviour. A particularly striking phenomenon is the tendency for children to seek recognition through likes or comments on social media rather than demonstrating sincerity in consistently living out their faith values. This study aims to formulate effective and relevant PAK strategies to strengthen children's faith values amid the challenges of modern social interaction. The method used is qualitative research with a literature study approach, which concludes that Christian religious education is an integral process that not only transfers knowledge but also shapes children's faith through cognitive, affective, and practical dimensions. This involves the role of schools, families, and churches in guiding children to live according to God's word. Furthermore, the theological foundation of PAK is rooted in the Bible, which emphasises the importance of guiding children in the path of faith from an early age. Therefore, there must be a contextual implementation strategy that combines creative methods, digital media, spiritual experiences, and cross-environmental collaboration so that children's faith grows strong in the face of the challenges of modern social interaction. Abstrak Pendidikan Agama Kristen (PAK) memiliki peran sentral dalam membentuk identitas iman anak di tengah derasnya arus globalisasi dan digitalisasi. Perubahan sosial yang begitu cepat membuat anak-anak lebih banyak belajar dari media digital dibandingkan dari keluarga atau sekolah, sehingga nilai iman yang seharusnya menjadi dasar hidup kerap terabaikan. Realitas ini menimbulkan kesenjangan antara pengetahuan iman yang diajarkan secara formal dengan penghayatan iman yang diwujudkan dalam perilaku sehari-hari. Fenomena yang semakin mencolok adalah kecenderungan anak untuk lebih mencari pengakuan melalui likes atau komentar di media sosial daripada menampilkan kesungguhan dalam menjalani nilai iman secara konsisten. Penelitian ini bertujuan merumuskan strategi PAK yang efektif dan relevan untuk memperkuat nilai iman anak di tengah tantangan pergaulan modern. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi pustaka dapat disimpulkan bahwa pendidikan Agama Kristen memiliki hakikat sebagai proses integral yang tidak hanya mentransfer pengetahuan, melainkan membentuk iman anak melalui dimensi kognitif, afektif, dan tindakan nyata. Dimana, peran sekolah, keluarga, dan gereja dalam mendampingi anak hidup sesuai firman Tuhan. Selanjutnya, bahwa landasan teologis PAK berakar pada Alkitab yang menegaskan pentingnya menuntun anak dalam jalan iman sejak dini. Sehingga, memiliki strategi dalam mengimplementasikan yang kontekstual yang memadukan metode kreatif, media digital, pengalaman rohani, serta kolaborasi lintas lingkungan agar iman anak bertumbuh kokoh menghadapi tantangan pergaulan modern.
