Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) what constraints in microteaching lessons are faced by the students of Education Study Program at Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Sebelas Maret University Surakarta; and (2) what alternative solutions in overcoming the obstacles, so that students can join the microteaching lessons well. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach, with purposive sampling technique. Data sources include informants, place/event and archive/document.  The data are collected by in-depth interview techniques, direct observation, and content analysis. The content ?analysis is done by the technique of interactive models. Based on the result analysis, it can be concluded that the practice of microteaching is absolutely important to be given to the students as potential educators in the future. Due to the lack of facilities and infra-structures, and to maximize learning activities, it is important for the institution to give special space for the ideal microteaching room, to provide the adequate supporting facilities, and to improve the tutors' competence. Another constraint is that the students who take courses on learning component generally did not master the practical material such as how to draw on the blackboard. In addition, some students are less self-confident in the training. It can be solved by taking a great number of good training materials for teaching theory and practice.

Abstract

This study aims to know the children's insight toward the existence of school as educational institution and to improve their critical awareness toward the real meaning of education. This study uses descriptive qualitative method for identifying the meaning of school, the impact of that meaning and the implications for the development of the educational system in Indonesia. The results show that school, for children, is defined as the process of knowledge transferring, hence it will be useful to seek jobs. This concept is also supported with schooling-oriented thinking. It means that children have to go to their school in order to meet their duty toward their parents and country. In boarder sense, school (or schooling) works as the representation of socio-cultural phenomenon because it contains such policies and programs issued politically in which the act of those is forced and dominated by the leaders. The effect of these situations is that the children lack awareness of the truly meaning of schooling. It implies that the school children are less good in daily life behaving and less in paying attention and caring of their surrounding environment. Based on those arguments, we need to train the children to act critically and improve their critical awareness so that the school children have good morality and attitude that make them useful for the existence of our nation.

Abstract

The program of developing and improving education quality will run smoothly if all communities participate actively. Here, the existence of public relations becomes the main point. If the activities of public relations can be done properly, there will be a good corporation between an education institution and society. Public relation takes a role as an institution which binds society's participation at any activity of improving education quality. In other words, public relation has a function as a means of channel for the society to convey their participation in improving education quality. It is not easy to take a part in developing education for the society; the existence of public relation will overcome it. Public relation in educational institution can be said as a series of activities in order to create harmony with society or other institutions.
