Abstract

In 2005, the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a new anthropometric standard. This standard was aimed to be used as international standard. The standard developed in six countries. Using longitudinal design, the standard developed based on exclusive breastfed babies of high social class non-smoking mothers. Since Indonesia did not participate in the development of the standard it is logic if some scientists questioning the appropriateness of the standard for Indonesia children. Objective: To analyze whether the standard is appropriate for Indonesia by plotting the growth achievement of Indonesian breastfed babies on the new WHO anthropometric standard. Method: The analysis using the data of the study on care pattern of Cibadak and Gegesik babies aged 1-5 month old. The mean length and weight of samples fitted to the WHO anthropometric software. The z scores plotted graphically. Results: The Z score length achievement of the breastfed babies were ranged from - 0.43 to 0.83, and the weight for age ranges from -1.03 to -0.17. The growth of babies was influenced by socioeconomic and sanitation as shown that the babies of Cibadak subdistrict growing better than those of Gegesik subdistrict. Conclusion: The new WHO anthropometric standard was fitted lo be used for assessing growth achievement in this study. [Penel Gizi Makan 2006, 29(2): 63-67]

Abstract

Background: Protein Energy Malnutrition among children under five years old is one of the many nutrition problems in Indonesia. During this period, growth faltering frequently occurs resulting in failure to attain optimal potential growth in toddlers. Objective: To determine the age in which the most growth faltering happens and its related factors. Methods: A secondary data analysis of 1.964 children under five years old in SKRT 2004 was use for this study. Inclusion criteria were having complete data on weight. height/length, child characieristics and socio demographic data of parents. Growth trajectory was determinant based on weight for height and devided into below and normal growth Results: The analysis showed that 42.9% attained normal growth, and 51.5% living in rural area. Increase of growth failure occurred at the age of 7-10 month old compared to other age. Multivariate analysis showed that there was an increased risk of growth failure 1.5 times in children living in rural areas and 1.9 times in children of muttiparagravida (sixth or more). Abstract

Backgrounds: Consuming an excessive amount of energy from carbohydrate, fat and protein can lead to obesity. There are relations between overweight and hypertension, therefore the analyses that determine the risk of overweight to the blood pressure level is conducted. Objectives: To determine the relationship between the level of overweight and blood pressure level. Methods: The data used is secondary data from Health Household Survey (SUSENAS) 2004. All samples have been analyzed are male and female with age between 25 - 65 years. Results: After controlled with several variables in the model, the result of the analysis shows that people with Overweight and obesity have the risk of 1. 79 and 2 .38 times compared to nonnal people to get borderline blood pressure respectively. Beside that, Overweight and obesity have the risk of 2.51 and 5.19 times compared to normal people to get high blood pressure respectively. Another variable female have the risk of 1.45 times compared to males to get high blood pressure. The person with age 36-45 years and 46-65 years have the risk of 1.33 and 1.68 times compared to the person aged 25-35 to get borderline blood pressure respectively. In addition, the person with age 36-45 years and 46-65 years have the risk of 1.84 and 3.64 times compared to the person age 25-35 to get high blood pressure respectively. Conclusions: Overweight persons have the risk of both having high blood pressure (~ 160/100 mmHg) and borderline blood pressure level (130-159/85-99 mmHg). Female have higher risk of high blood pressure than males. Age above 36 years have higher risk of high blood pressure than 25-35 years old. Recommendations: Programme in controlling blood pressure should be targeted to community especially those who are overweight, female and older than 36 years. (Pen el Gizi Makan 2006, 29(2): 78-84]

Abstract

Background: Food poisoning may cause severe damage to the health of human being and even death. There were 90 cases of food poisoning outbreak between 1997 and 1999 in West Java involving 508 victims and 90 deaths. In order to prevent the outbreak, it is important to find the cause and mechanism of poisoning caused by food. Objective: To find the cause and the mechanism of food poisoning outbreak in PT BK in Bogar District, 25-26 February, 2005. Methods: Data used in this study are the information gained from the investigation report of Food Poisoning Outbreak at PT BK on 25-26 February 2005 11 Bogar District. The investigation involved 307 workers who consumed food in company's canteen. Results: It was found that raw meat was coot21ninated with E.coli and lactobacillus. E. coli was also found in beefsteak served on 25 February 2005. The logistic regression test found that the workers who consumed beefsteak have 10.25 times to get poisoned than those who did not consume beefsteak. Conclusion: Beefsteak which contaminated with E. coli may caused food poisoning outbreak in PT BK. [Penel Gizi Makan 2006, 29(2): 85-91]
