Abstract

Dietary fiber, resistant starch, bioactive compounds, phenolic antioxidants, flavonoids, and inulin are found in mangrove and banana flour. The combination of the two flours is expected to produce cookies that increase the metabolism of obesity. This study aims to identify the chemical characteristics, level of preference, and glycemic index of mangrove and banana flour cookies (mangpis) to increase metabolism in obese subjects. This study consists of three stages. The first stage of chemical characteristic analysis and preference level using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) design with 4 treatments with 2 repetitions. The second stage of the best and selected formula from the level of preference tests its glycemic index value and glycemic load using a Completely Randomized Design. and the third stage of steamed intervention using Pre-Post Randomized Control Group Design. The results showed that F1 had the highest air, dietary fiber, crude fiber, and resistant starch content, while F0 had the highest protein, energy, and carbohydrate content. F2 cookies had the highest fat content. The glycemic index of steamed F2 was included in the medium category with a low glycemic load. The 28-day F2 intervention reduced triglycerides but did not affect fasting blood sugar or insulin levels.

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia in Indonesia shows an increase. Anemia in children and mothers has serious health effects. This analysis aims to better understand the characteristics of toddlers and their mothers with concurrent anemia in the same family. The analysis uses Riskesdas data from 2018 with a cross-sectional design. Sampling is done using a probability proportional to the size. The samples analyzed were families with toddlers and mothers with toddlers with Hb measurement data and other supporting data. The analysis was performed descriptively and another proportionality test was performed using the Chi-Square test (p<0.05). The results of the analysis showed that 38.9% of toddlers were anemic, 21.3% of mothers with children under 5 years of age were anemic, while children and mothers in the same family had anemia 9.7. %. In families with children and mothers, anemia often occurs in families with low economic status, the education level of the household head is not high, the number of family members is more than 4 people, the number of children under 5 years old in the family is less. households with ≤2 children, living in rural areas and living outside Java and Bali area (10.7%; 10.0%; 12.2%; 9.7%; 10.0–12.0%). The high prevalence of anemia in households suggests that anemia management still needs to be improved. All family members can play an independent role in monitoring and early detection of anemia symptoms in toddlers and their mothers.

Abstract

Bali has the potential for good health resources. That is why Bali has been identified as the province with the lowest prevalence of stunting. However, this success should not make stakeholders think this problem is resolved. Bali still has problems which, if not addressed, will trigger a further increase in the prevalence of stunting. Considering this, it is deemed necessary to explore the perspectives of nutrition fieldworkers  and other stakeholders regarding the problem of stunting in Bali. This research aims to explore the potential and constraints to accelerating stunting reduction in Bali. This is qualitative research conducted between June and July 2022. Data was collected through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. This study found that access to affordable health services is the main potential to support the acceleration of stunting reduction. Apart from that, there is a Balinese Traditional Village Council which always synergizes with government programs for the welfare of the community. The low quality of cadres is an obstacle to the success of the program. Many parents hesitate to take their children to posyandu because they are not satisfied with the cadre's services. Apart from that, there are other inhibiting factors, such as society's wrong understanding of stunting, teenage marriage, lack of environmental hygiene and sanitation, and inappropriate parenting patterns. This condition needs attention so that the acceleration of stunting reduction in Bali can be achieved as optimally as possible.

Abstract

Dyslipidemia can trigger inflammation that affects the activity and number of leukocytes. Inflammation can be improved with foods that contain anti-inflammatories such as lime and Moringa leaf powder. This study aims to determine the effect of giving a combination formula of lime juice and moringa leaf powder on leukocyte levels in dyslipidemic Sprague Dawley rats. Experimental study with Randomized Pre and Post Test with Control Group Design. Samples were divided into 4 groups P0 (control group), P1 (2.25 ml lime + 0.2 g moringa), P2 (1.57 ml lime + 0.26 g moringa) and P3 (2.92 ml orange lime + 0.14 g moringa) were given intervention for 21 days. The results showed that there was no significant decrease in leukocyte levels after being given intervention in each group with a p-value> 0.05. So it can be concluded that giving the combination formula did not affect the decrease in leukocyte levels.

Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional deficiency and can have long-term impacts that are detrimental to health in the next life cycle. In 2021 the stunting rate in Indonesia will be 24.4 percent. The prevalence rate of stunting in each province varies so it is suspected that there are regional proximity and characteristics that contribute to the prevalence of stunting. This research aims to predict stunting by considering regional proximity in Indonesia. The research design is cross-sectional. The analysis used is spatial Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) to predict stunting risk factors by considering regional proximity in the analysis. Research data uses secondary data from the 2021 Indonesian Nutrition Status Study (SSGI). The observation units are 34 provinces in Indonesia. GWR analysis uses Kernel Fixed Gaussian weights (smallest AIC value). The results of the analysis found that the GWR model is better used to model the determinant factors of toddler stunting in Indonesia compared to the OLS/linear regression model. Four predictor variables influence stunting, namely the proportion of the population who have JKN/Jamkesda, the proportion of sick toddlers who undergo examination/treatment at health service facilities, the proportion of toddlers with low birth weight categories, and the proportion of toddlers who experience diarrhea.

Abstract

Important factors that influence a person in choosing their food. Adolescence is the time when a person begins to make choices, including choosing what foods they like and don't like to consume. This study aims to know the factors related to food choice motives among students at SMKN 3 Bogor City, West Java, Indonesia. The research design was Cross-sectional. Respondents were students of SMKN 3 Bogor class X, XI, and XII from five different majors, equalling 369 students were selected according to the inclusion criteria (students at SMKN 3 Kota Bogor) and exclusion criteria (students on special disease diets, students belonging to the vegan, vegetarian and pescetarian groups, students with certain food allergies). The results showed that the respondents who are frequently exposed to social media pay more attention to food choice motives compared to those who are less exposed to social media with a p-value <0.05. It can be concluded that social media as an important variable in determining food choice motives in adolescents must be a concern. The management of information dissemination carried out on social media should have regular regulations and legal sanctions if violations occur so that the information received is based on facts and can educate societies. Healthy food preferences still need to be enhanced among teenagers, and the promotion of healthy and natural foods should be intensified with breakthrough approaches

Abstract

Protein-energy wasting (PEW) is common issue in kidney disease patients, primarily due to inadequate protein and energy intake exacerbated by uremic anorexia. Supplementation of biscuits using local food that contains functional substances have the potential benefit of improving nutrition status in this population. Hence, this experimental study aimed to formulate locally sourced biscuits enriched with high protein, fiber, antioxidants and other nutrients to ameliorate this problem. The study encompassed five key stages: 1) ingredient selection, including soybean (SF) and tempeh flour (TF) as protein, fat, and fiber sources, and Moringa oleifera leaf powder for fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants; 2) early formulation resulting in three formulation of biscuits namely, SF (45 grams), TF (45 grams), and ST (a combination of 22.5 grams TF and SF), each augmented with 5 grams of Moringa oleifera leaf powder; 3) nutrient analysis on the powder of base ingredients, revealing energy and protein per 100 grams for SF, TF and Moringa oleifera leaf powder were 440 kcal and 34.7 grams, 457 kcal and 39.2 grams, 264 kcal and 23.5 grams, respectively. 4) organoleptic evaluation by trained panelists, leading to the exclusion of SF and TF biscuits due to poor acceptability and unfavorable sensory attributes; and 5) final formulation, where ST biscuits underwent further refinement. In conclusion, ST biscuits show potential as a nutritional intervention for addressing PEW in kidney disease patients, though further research and clinical trials are needed to validate their efficacy and acceptance within this specific patient population.

Abstract

Stunting remains a prevalent health issue among children under two years old in Indonesia. The nutritional status of newborns, indicated by birth weight and length, is crucial for neonatal development. Malnutrition in neonates can lead to increased mortality rates, neurological and cognitive impairments, and stunting. This study aims to identify the risk factors associated with stunting among children aged 9-23 months in Indonesia, utilizing data from the 2018 Basic Health Research. The study design was cross-sectional. This study examined a sample of 7,396 children within the specified age group. The study reveals a stunting prevalence of 30.4% among children aged 9-23 months. Logistic regression analysis indicates that low birth weight (LBW) (AOR 1.854; 95% CI 1.50-2.30), birth length (AOR 1.550; 95% CI 1.37-1.74), and male gender (AOR 1.272; 95% CI 1.15-1.41) are significant risk factors associated with stunting in this age group. Therefore, addressing these factors is crucial for combating stunting among children under two years old in Indonesia.

Abstract

Stunting in children under five is still a health problem in Indonesia. The study's objective was to evaluate the influence of essential nutrition interventions and maternal and child healthcare services on stunting prevalence in Indonesia based on path modeling. The study design was an ecological study, using secondary data for 2020 and 2021 from the Indonesian Health Profile published by the Ministry of Health. The total unit of analysis was 68, consisting of 34 provinces in Indonesia, and two years of analysis (resampling bootstrapping). The study used the Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. The result shows that maternal and child healthcare service has a significant direct effect on essential nutrition interventions of 0.786 (p-value<0.05) and indirectly has an effect on stunting with a coefficient value of -0.375 (p-value<0.05). The influence of essential nutrition intervention is directly significant on stunting with a path coefficient value of -0.477 (p-value<0.05). Integration of essential nutrition interventions and maternal and child healthcare services coverage can reduce the prevalence of stunting among children under five years old in Indonesia based on a predictive relevance value of 92.4%. Strengthening multi-sectoral convergence is necessary to tackle stunting in Indonesia.

Abstract

Blood lipid parameters are influenced by nutrient intake, both macronutrients and micronutrients. This study aims to analyze the relationship between zinc (Zn), sodium (Na), and potassium (K) with lipid profiles (total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). The study design was cross-sectional using secondary data from the 2017 Non-Communicable Disease Risk Factor Cohort Study which took 3,507 samples from a population of 5,329 respondents with a purposive sampling technique. The data analyzed included sociodemographic characteristics data, lipid profile data, and 1x24-hour recall consumption data. Data processing used logistic regression analysis and correlation with a 95% confidence level. The study results showed that gender, age, education level, and marital status had a significant relationship with lipid profiles. The results of this study were micronutrients and lipid profiles showed a significant negative relationship between sodium, potassium, and zinc with cholesterol and a significant negative relationship between potassium and LDL. This study concludes that the greater risk of dyslipidemia is female gender, increasing age, low education level, and marital status with divorced category. Sodium, potassium, and zinc have a relationship with the occurrence of dyslipidemia. Further research is needed, and a more comprehensive study is required to analyze the relationship between micronutrients and dyslipidemia.
