Abstract

This study explores the characteristics of Generation Z in engaging with yoga and meditation practices, examines the role of wellness practitioners in attracting their interest, and proposes strategic approaches for designing appealing and meaningful wellness experiences. Given Generation Z’s growing influence on lifestyle and wellness consumption, understanding their preferences and behavioral patterns is essential for the sustainable development of the wellness industry. This study adopts a qualitative research design, employing multiple data collection methods to enhance data richness and credibility. Data were collected through in-depth and semi-structured interviews with eight yoga and meditation practitioners, complemented by focus group discussions (FGDs) and a review of relevant literature. The findings indicate that Generation Z constitutes a distinctive and strategically important market segment characterized by strong engagement with digital platforms and social media trends. While they demonstrate high levels of curiosity toward wellness activities, they are also easily distracted and tend to seek novel, visually appealing, and socially interactive experiences. Group-based activities, immersive environments, and experiences that integrate aesthetic and technological elements are particularly effective in capturing their interest. The study further reveals that practitioners who are able to adapt their teaching styles, communication strategies, and program designs to align with Generation Z’s digital-oriented lifestyle and values are more likely to attract and retain this demographic as a primary target in the wellness market. These findings offer practical insights for wellness practitioners and industry stakeholders in developing innovative, Gen Z–oriented yoga and meditation experiences that balance authenticity, engagement, and sustainability.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Purpose : This study aims to examine tourists’ assessments of the quality of Loloh Terteran, a traditional Balinese beverage made from terter leaves (Solanum erianthum), and to identify which product attributes most strongly shape perceived quality in a culinary tourism context. Design/methodology/approach The research employed a descriptive quantitative design. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to 60 respondents. Consumer assessment was measured using six indicators—price, colour, taste, aroma, perceived benefits, and packaging—rated on a Likert scale. The data were analysed using mean score calculations and interval class interpretation to determine the strength of consumer evaluations. Findings : The overall mean score of 4.24 indicates a very positive evaluation of Loloh Terteran. Colour achieved the highest rating, followed by price, aroma, and taste, all falling within the “strongly agree” category, suggesting that visual appeal, affordability, and sensory attributes constitute the product’s primary strengths. Perceived benefits were rated “agree,” indicating general recognition of functional value. Packaging received a “neutral” rating, highlighting it as the weakest attribute and a potential constraint for market competitiveness. Research limitations/implications : This study is limited by its sample size and focus on a single tourism village. Future research could involve larger samples and comparative studies across destinations. Practically, the findings imply that improving packaging design and informational labeling could enhance product positioning while maintaining traditional authenticity. Keywords: consumer assessmen, traditional beverages, culinary touris, Loloh Terteran, product quality.

Abstract

Purpose : This study aims to analyze the implementation of community-based waste management through Bank Sampah Tarhilala and to examine its role in supporting sustainable tourism development in Toba Regency, part of Indonesia’s Lake Toba Super Priority Tourism Destination. The study also seeks to identify the environmental, social, and economic contributions of the waste bank, as well as the challenges that affect its effectiveness in the tourism context. Design/methodology/approach : This research employed a qualitative descriptive- analytical approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with key informants, field observations, questionnaires, and documentation. The analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by source and technique triangulation. Findings : The results indicate that Bank Sampah Tarhilala has implemented a systematic waste management process, including waste sorting, collection, processing, and distribution, supported by multi-stakeholder partnerships involving local government, tourism actors, private companies, and local communities. The waste bank manages an average of 7–8 tons of waste per month, contributing to a reduction in regional waste volume and improved environmental cleanliness in tourism areas around Lake Toba. In addition, the initiative supports circular economy practices, provides additional income opportunities for local communities, and enhances public awareness of sustainable waste management. Research limitations/implications : This study is limited by its qualitative approach and reliance on subjective perceptions of informants. Future research is recommended to apply quantitative or mixed-method approaches to measure financial performance and long-term impacts more comprehensively. Practically, the findings imply that strengthening institutional capacity, continuous environmental education, and cross-sector collaboration are essential to maximize the role of community-based waste banks in supporting sustainable tourism destinations.
