Abstract

This study is aimed at improving the students’ critical thinking ability and achievement in Biology of VII A class of SMPN 1 Kartasura through the implementation of guided inquiry model assisted by the use of facebook. This research is a classroom action research involving  several cycles in which each cycle includes four stages those are planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of this research is the students of VII A class at SMPN 1 Kartasura in academic year of 2012/2013. The data are obtained through the test (essay and multiple-choice) and non-test (observation, interviews and questionnaires). The data are analyzed through descriptive analytical techniques and validated through triangulation techniques.  Critical thinking ability consists of six aspects those are interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The average improvement percentage of critical thinking ability test in Pre-cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III sequently are (41,36%; 52,66%; 65,32%; 77,26%). Students’ achievement is viewed from the increase of student learning completeness consisting of cognitive, psychomotor, and affective. The result of percentage attainment average from cognitive aspects in Pre-cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III sequently are (36,11%; 47,22%; 72,22%; 100%). Psychomotor students’ achievement consists of three aspects, those are stringing experimental tool, observing the object changes that occur in the experiment, and communicating the results of experiments and worksheets in the presentation. The result of percentage attainment average from psychomotor aspects in Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III sequently are (64,12%; 81,25%; 90,66%). Affective students’ achievement includes three aspect which are being meticulous in observing object from results of the experiment, being discipline in collecting worksheets, and being cooperative in a group discussion. The result of percentage attainment average from affective aspects in Cycle I, Cycle II, and Cycle III sequently are (61,81%; 77,31%; 91,92%). Based on the results of the research it can be concluded that the implementation of guided inquiry model assisted by the use of facebook can improve the students’ critical thinking ability and achievement in Biology of VII A class of SMPN 1 Kartasura.  Key Words: Guided Inquiry, Facebook, Biology Critical Thinking Ability,  Students’ Achievement in Biology

Abstract

The research is aimed to find out the difference of creative thinking skills between application of POE (Predict Observe Explain) and POEW (Predict Observe Explain Write) learning model on student at SMA Negeri 1 Ngemplak Boyolali in academis year 2012/2013. The research belonged to the quasi experiment with research design Posttest Only Non-Equivalent Control Group Design. This research applied POE (Predict Observe Explain) learning model in the experimental group 1 and POEW (Predict Observe Explain Write)learning model in the experimental group 2. Population of research was the students in X degree SMA Negeri 1 Ngemplak Boyolali. The sampling used the cluster sampling was used as samply techniquel. The data collection technique was usedwerw test method belonged test shaped essay (for taking the data of students` creative thinking skills) and non-test method belonged documents method (for taking second data) and observation method (for taking the enforceability of the syntax and measure students` achievement psichomotor and affective as supporting data). Hypothesis testing belonged t-test. The results of the research shows that the mean of student`s capability of creative thinking in experiment group 1 higher than experiment group 2, it was 77,35 for experiment group 1 and 70,57 for experiment group 2.  The result of hypothesis is analyze by t-test and it gets significant value 0,010 (sig<0,05), so there is difference of creative thinking skills between application of POE learning model and POEW learning model. Conclution of the research is there creative thinking skills between class use POE (Predict Observe Explain)learning model different withclass use POEW (Predict Observe Explain Write) learning model on student at SMA Negeri 1 Ngemplak Boyolali in academis year 2012/2013. Key Words: POE (Predict Observe Explain) Learning Model, POEW (Predict Observe Explain Write) Learning Model, Creative Thinking Skills

Abstract

The aim of this research is to ascertain the influence of guided inquiry based joyful learning (interjoy) learning models toward science process skills of X grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta in academic year 2012/2013. This research was quasi experiment research which used posttest only nonequivalent control group design. This research applied guided inquiry based joyful learning (interjoy) learning models in experimental group and direct instruction learning models in control group.  The population of this research was all of X grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta in academic year 2012/2013.   Sampling techniques used cluster sampling that choosed X.10 as experiment group and X.8 as control group. Data was collected using KPS test, observation sheet, and document.  The hypotheses analyzed by t-test. This research concluded that application of guided inquiry based joyful learning (interjoy) learning models has real influential toward science process skills of X grade students at SMA Negeri 2 Surakarta. Key Words: guided inquiry based joyful learning (interjoy) learning models, science process skills

Abstract

The purpose of the research is ascertain the differences result learning achievement in biology on active learning strategies  Make a Match and Card Sort Class X SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013. The research method was quasy experiment using quantitative approach. The populations was all students of class X SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013 with 297 students. The sample of this research was established by cluster sampling, so chosen X3 as the experiment 1 class with 29 students and X4 as the experiment 2 with 30 students. Data was collected using multiple choice test, observation sheet, and document. The data were analyzed by t-test. The results of the study showed that Make a Match strategy has 67.37 for the cognitive side, 81.46 the psychomotor side, and 77.58 for the affective side; while Card Sort strategy has 63.42 for the cognitive side, 73.92 for the psychomotor side, and 78.53 for the affective side. Decision take hypothesis with level of significance (α : 0,05). Ho rejected if probability significance less than 0.05 and accepted if more than 0.05. In the cognitive domain showed 0.039 > 0.05, the shows psychomotor domain 0.049 <0.05, and the affective domain, showed 0.69> 0.05. The conclusion of this research were have differences results of biological studies on the cognitive and psychomotor from the application of active learning strategies Make a Match and application of active learning strategies Card Sort  Class X students of SMA Negeri 5 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013. Key Words: Active Learning Strategies Make a Match, Active Learning Strategy Card Sort, Learning Achievement in Biology

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out : (1) the effect of the implementation of Active Knowledge Sharing on student achievement in Biology at the grade of Class X at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat; (2) the  effect of students’ learning style on student achievement in Biology at the grade of Class X at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat; and (3) the interaction between learning strategy and learning style simultaneously on student achievement in Biology at the grade of Class X at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat. The research belonged to quasi experiment which use Posttest Only Non-Equivalent Control Group Design  while the students’ achievement in Biology was the dependent variable. The population of this research was all student of  Class X at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat in Academic Year 2012/2013. The sample of this research were the students of class X-1 as the control group and the students of class X-4 as the experimental group that were taken by cluster sampling. The data of the students’ achievement were completed by test, school documents, questionnaires and observation techniques. The analysis technique of this research was two away anava in different cell. The results of hypothesis testing strategies on student achievement is 0.000 for cognitive domains, 0.001 for affective domains, and 0.029 for psychomotor domains. The results of hypothesis testing learning style on student achievement is 0.179 for cognitive domains, 0.759 for affective domains, and 0.538 for psychomotor domains. The results of hypothesis testing of interaction strategies and learning styles on student achievement is 0.538 for cognitive domains, 0.716 for affective domain, 0,879 for psychomotor domains. The conclution of the research were 1) Active Knowledge Sharing strategy has significant effect toward biology’s student achievement of Class X at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat; 2)  Learning style does not have significant effect toward biology’s student achievement of Class X  at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat; 3) There is no  interaction between learning strategy and learning style toward biology’s student achievement of Class X  at SMA Negeri Kebakkramat. Key Words: Active Knowledge Sharing, Learning Style, Student Achievement In Biology

Abstract

This study is aimed to improve critical thinking ability of the X-1 class of SMA N 3 Surakarta through the implementation of Blended-Problem Solving through Moodle application. This research was a classroom action research that divided into several cycles, each cycle includes four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of this research was the students of X-1 class at SMA N 3 Surakarta in academic year of 2012/2013. The data was obtained through the test (essay test) and non-test (interviews and documentations). And be analyzed with descriptive analytical techniques then validated by triangulation techniques. The results showed that students critical thinking ability was increased in Pre-cycle, Cycle I, and Cycle II. Critical thinking consist of six aspects are interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. The improvement in interpretation aspect increased from 42,19% to 66,41%. Analysis aspect increased from 36,72% to 78,13%. Evaluation aspect increased from 33,59% to 78,91%. Inference aspect increased from 40,63% to 64,06%. Explanation aspect increased from 30,47% to 73,44%. Self-regulation aspect increased from 43,75% to 78,91%. The conclusion of this study explained that the implementation of Blended-Problem Solving with moodle could improve critical thinking ability of the X-1 class at SMA N 3 Surakarta. Key Words: Blended-Problem Solving, Moodle, Critical Thinking

Abstract

This research is motivated by teachers who often conveying all course materials so that students become less active because they only served to listen and rarely given the opportunity to ask. A less active role in the learning resulted in student’s understanding of the material tends to show and the student’s achievements at the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor less than optimal. This research is aimed to determine differences of student’s achievements between Problem solving-Concept maps with Group Investigation-Concept map. This research is Quasy Experimental use Post-test Only with Nonequivalent Group Design. All of tenth grade students of SMAN 8 Surakarta are sample population. The sampling technique in this study was cluster sampling with a sample size of 53 students. Data collection using tests and non-test method. Test methods include multiple choice questions while the non-test includes observation and documentation. Based on the t-test, cognitive showed that Sig. (0,755) > 0,05, affective showed that Sig. (0,009) < 0,05, and psychomotor showed that Sig. (0,000) < 0,005. The conclusion of this research is didn’t show any difference in student’s achievements in the cognitive between experimental class 1 and experimental class 2 but showed differences in affective and psychomotor domains. Key Words: Problem Solving Learning Model, Group Investigation Learning Model, Concept Map, Student’s Achievements

Abstract

This study is aimed to improve creative thinking ability of XI IPA4 class of SMA N 3 Surakarta through the implementation of Blended-Problem Solving through moodle application. This research was a classroom action research held in 3 cycles, each cycle includes four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The subject of this research is the students of XI IPA4 class at SMA N 3 Surakarta in academic year of 2012/2013. The data is obtained through the test (essay test) and non-test (observation, interviews and questionnaires). The data is analyzed with descriptive analytical techniques and validated by triangulation techniques. The results showed that students creative thinking ability is increased in Pre-cycle, Cycle I, Cycle II and Cycle III. Creative thinking consist of four aspects are fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration. Fluency aspect has increased was 52,5%, flexibility aspect was 54,17%, the originality aspect was 61,66% and elaboration aspect was 55,83%. The research conclouded that the implementation of Blended-Problem Solving through moodle application can improve creative thinking ability of XI IPA4 class at SMA N 3 Surakarta in academic year of 2012/2013. Key Words: Blended-Problem Solving, Moodle, Creative Thinking

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of the learning model of Experiential Learning with case study of students' critical thinking skills in the human reproductive system material.Research is Quasi Experiment (quasi-experimental) with research design Posttest Only with Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The research population was all students of eleventh (XI) grade IPA SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta academic year 2012/2013. Sampling technique in the study is cluster sampling, with samples of the two classes, there are eleventh grade (XI) IPA 1 with 26 students as the number of experimental class and eleventh (XI) IPA 3 with 28 students a class control. Treatment in the experimental class is the application of the learning model of Experiential Learning with case study and in control class applied conventional learning model with varied lectures. The technique of collection data was using test method (essay) and non-test (documentation and observation). Hypothesis testing is done by using a t-test. The results showed that the average value of the critical thinking skills of students in the experimental class was higher than the control class, which is 64.42 in experimental class and 51 in the control class. The results show the significant value of t test is 0.000 (sig. <0.05), so it can be said that there are significant differences in thecritical thinking skills betweenexperimental class with control class. The research has conclusion that the model of experiential learning with case studygives significant effect on students' critical thinking skills for eleventh(XI) grade IPA SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta in academic year 2012/2013 on the matter of human reproductive system. Key Words: experiential learning, learning method in case study, critical thinking skills

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to know the influence application of Refelective Learning model toward biology learning achievement of tenth degree students at SMA Negeri Colomadu in academic year 2012/ 2013. This research was Quasi Experiment research which used Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design. This research applyed Reflective Learning model in experimental group and Direct Instruction Learning model in control group. Population’s research is the entire class tenth at SMA Negeri Colomadu in academic year 2012/2013.  Sampling technique used Cluster Sampling, result has chosen tenth 5 as experiment group and  tenth 4 as control group.  Data was collected using  document, observation sheet, and multiple choice test. The data were analyzed by t-test. Result of the research in biology learning achievement between experiment and control group have real differents in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domain. The conclusion that application of Refelective Learning model has taken good effect toward biology learning achievement of tenth degree students at SMA Negeri  Colomadu in academic year 2012/2013.  Key Words: Refelective Learning Model,  Learning Achievement
