Abstract

Digital transformation requires learning media that can visualize abstract concepts while supporting the development of higher-order thinking skills. This study aimed to analyze the effects of BELKOPATA learning media supported by Assemblr EDU on elementary school students’ learning achievement and critical thinking skills, both separately and simultaneously. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The participants were 37 students, comprising 17 students in the control class and 20 students in the experimental class. The experimental class received instruction using BELKOPATA supported by Assemblr EDU, whereas the control class received instruction without this media. Learning achievement data were collected through pretests and posttests, while critical thinking skills were assessed using an observation sheet covering information analysis, reasoning, evidence evaluation, problem solving, and conclusion drawing. The instruments were tested for validity and reliability before use. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro Wilk test, Levene’s Test, Box’s M Test, and Multivariate Analysis of Variance. The MANOVA results showed a significant simultaneous difference in learning achievement and critical thinking skills between the two classes, with Pillai’s Trace=0.332, F(2,34)=8.443, and p=0.001. Separately, the experimental class achieved significantly higher learning outcomes than the control class, F(1,35)=15.449, p<0.001, with partial eta squared=0.306. However, the difference in critical thinking skills was not significant, F(1,35)=2.326, p=0.136. The multivariate effect was therefore driven primarily by learning achievement. Therefore, BELKOPATA supported by Assemblr EDU effectively improved learning achievement, although its influence on critical thinking requires longer intervention and more intensive analytical activities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a scientific literacy learning environment model integrated with Islamic values through the Technology Project-Based Learning (TPjBL) approach in improving the scientific literacy of SMP/MTs students. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of 68 students divided into an experimental group of 34 students and control group of 34 students. The experimental group received treatment through the TPjBL model integrated with the values of amanah, ihsan, and khalifah, while the control group received conventional instruction previously implemented by the science teacher in collaboration with the Islamic education teacher. The research instrument was a scientific literacy test with scores ranging from 0 to 100. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, paired-samples t-test, independent-samples t-test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group increased from 55.87 in the pretest to 87.42 in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.62 in the moderate category. Meanwhile, the control group increased from 55.16 to 66.94, with an N-Gain score of 0.27 in the low category. The independent-samples t-test revealed significant differences between the experimental and control groups in posttest scores (t = 6.879; p < 0.001) and N-Gain scores (t = 10.014; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that the scientific literacy learning environment model integrated with Islamic values through the TPjBL approach is more effective than conventional instruction. This model not only improves students’ scientific literacy but also strengthens their engagement in real-world projects, data use, collaboration, reflection, and the internalization of Islamic values in science learning.

Abstract

Scholarly journals constitute one of the most important mechanisms for disseminating research findings and advancing knowledge within higher education institutions. Universities, as centres of teaching, research, and community service, depend on quality academic journals to communicate scientific discoveries, promote innovation, influence policy formulation, and contribute to national development. In Nigeria, the establishment of institutional and university-based journals has increased considerably due to the expansion of tertiary education and the growing emphasis on research productivity. These journals have provided platforms for publishing indigenous research that addresses national and regional developmental challenges. However, despite their increasing number, many Nigerian journals remain underdeveloped and have not attained the level of quality, visibility, sustainability, and international competitiveness expected of globally recognized scholarly publications. Challenges such as inadequate funding, weak editorial capacity, ineffective peer-review systems, irregular publication schedules, poor digital infrastructure, low international indexing, inadequate compliance with publication ethics, limited policy support, and researchers' preference for foreign journals continue to impede their development. This paper reviews the concept of Nigerian journals, their various types, significance to higher education, major challenges affecting their development, and practical strategies for strengthening institutional and university-based journals. The paper concludes that sustainable funding, editorial capacity building, digital transformation, adherence to international publishing standards, improved government support, stronger research culture, and strategic international collaborations are essential for repositioning Nigerian journals for global relevance and competitiveness.

Abstract

This article analyses the formtion of synergetic thinking within the contemporary democratic educational paradigm. The study proceeds from the idea that democratic education changes not only teaching methods, but also the cognitive culture of learners, especially their logical, reflective and projective modes of thinking. The purpose of the article is to determine how synergetic methodology explains nonlinearity, self-organisation and openness in the educational process, and how these processes are manifested in the national educational context of Uzbekistan. The research is based on comparative philosophical analysis, systems thinking, and inductive-deductive reasoning. The results show that synergetic thinking develops most effectively when democratic principles are harmonised with national moral, cultural and pedagogical values. The article concludes that traditional and democratic educational paradigms should not be treated as mutually exclusive; rather, they function as complementary dimensions of contemporary education.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology requires school guidance and counseling services to provide more accessible, structured, and student-centered career support. This study aims to analyze the development of Mobile Cybercounseling (MCO) based on the Career Information Processing (CIP) framework to support career planning among senior high school students in Sidoarjo Regency. An exploratory mixed-method design was employed by combining Focus Group Discussions with students, guidance and counseling teachers, school leaders, and experts, supported by descriptive student response data. The findings reveal that students experienced several career planning challenges, including limited access to accurate career information, insufficient self-understanding, confusion in choosing study programs or career paths, and psychological barriers to face-to-face counseling. Field data showed that 78.6% of students reported limited access to structured career information, 75.0% experienced confusion in career decision-making, and 85.7% expressed interest in mobile-based career counseling services. The integration of the CASVE cycle—Communication, Analysis, Synthesis, Valuing, and Execution—into the MCO platform was perceived as relevant for guiding students through a systematic career decision-making process. Each MCO feature, including the initial career concern questionnaire, self-assessment, career alternatives, option evaluation, and career roadmap, was aligned with the CIP framework. This study concludes that CIP-based Mobile Cybercounseling is a feasible and theoretically grounded model for supporting structured career planning in senior high schools. Further studies are recommended to examine its effectiveness through broader implementation and experimental testing.

Abstract

Learning about flat shapes in elementary school is often conveyed thru images, definitions, and formulas that are not yet fully connected to the real experiences of the students. The game of hopscotch offers a cultural context as well as a concrete learning space because its playing pattern is composed of various geometric shapes and is played thru physical activity. This article aims to explain how the concept of flat shapes can be integrated with the game of hopscotch thru ethnomathematics, game-based learning, and movement-based learning approaches. The article is composed using a conceptual review of selected studies with DOIs that are available online. The synthesis results show that the hopscotch squares can be used to introduce squares, rectangles, triangles, semicircles, symmetry, congruence, perimeter, area, and composite shapes. Activities such as throwing the gaco, jumping, measuring squares, comparing shapes, and explaining game strategies allow students to connect visual representations, body movements, language, and mathematical symbols. This integration not only concretizes geometric concepts but also strengthens mathematical communication, collaboration, sportsmanship, and appreciation for local culture. Thus, the game of engklek can be developed into a contextual, active, and meaningful flat geometry learning environment, both in the form of direct play and interactive digital media.

Abstract

Biology is a science subject that require hands-on practical experience for better understanding and high academic performance. Unfortunately, Biology teachers are still searching for the appropriate instructional method that will produce the desired result. This led to the study that investigated the effect of Project-Based Learning (PBL) method on the academic performance of secondary school Biology students in Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State. The research employed a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design involving 77 Senior Secondary School Two (SS2) students from two intact classes in two public secondary schools. Two research questions guided the study and two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The Biology Performance Test (BPT) served as the instrument for data collection. The Kuder-Richardson formula 20 (KR-20) was used to determine the internal consistency of the multiple-choice items and a reliability coefficient of 0.76 Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (means and standard deviations) and inferential statistics (Analysis of Covariance - ANCOVA). The findings revealed that students taught Biology using project-based learning method achieved significantly higher performance (mean gain = 20.15) compared to those taught using traditional lecture method (mean gain = 13.88), with F(1,74) = 651.242, p < 0.05. Additionally, the study found no significant influence of gender on academic performance when project-based learning was used, with male students scoring a mean of 30.00 and female students scoring 30.66, F(1,32) = 0.145, p > 0.05. The study concluded that project-based learning is significantly more effective than traditional methods in enhancing Biology academic performance and creates gender-inclusive learning environments. It was recommended that Biology teachers should adopt project-based learning approaches in their instructional practice, as this study has demonstrated its effectiveness in significantly improving student academic performance.
