Abstract

This article is devoted to an analysis of conducting the class in the context of ESP (English for Specific Purpose) to enhance awareness of pragmatic behavior in the requesting situation. The results in this article emphasize the value of pragmatics in ESP courses understanding and implementing pragmatic principles into a lesson. This article's ultimate goal is to close the gap between academic understanding and real-world application, encouraging a more thorough and contextually appropriate method of teaching language in ESP classes.

Abstract

This article examines the approaches of Soviet leaders to the issue of the state language, the language policy of the Soviet state in the 1918-30s of the twentieth century, including the implementation of state policy on national languages in Uzbekistan. The content of decrees, resolutions and other legal documents of various levels adopted by the Communist Party and the Government of the Soviets on issues of equality of national languages, ensuring their development, office work in the state language, and indigenization of public administration is described. Also, the activities carried out in Uzbekistan on the basis of these official documents, the results achieved and changes in Soviet language policy are shown.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the utilization of information resources and its impact on the academic performance of students in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, Nigeria. The study will be conducted in the context of the increasing reliance on information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the education sector. The objectives of this research are: Examine the relationship between adequacy of information resources and students’ academic performance in tertiary institutions in Cross River State, examine the relationship between organization of information resources and students’ academic performance in tertiary institutions in Cross River State and examine the relationship between accessibility of information resources and students’ academic performance in tertiary institutions in Cross River State To achieve these objectives, a descriptive (quantitative) approach was employed. A survey was administered to a sample of students from various tertiary institutions in Cross River State. The survey gathered data on students' awareness and availability of information resources and their frequency of utilization for academic purposes. The data collected from the survey were analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques using descriptive statistics, such as frequencies and percentages, to determine the level of awareness, availability, and utilization of information resources. Correlation and regression analysis were employed to examine the relationship between the utilization of information resources and students' academic performance. The results of this study led to the conclusion that utilization of information resources has a strong, significant and positive relationship with students’ academic performance in tertiary institutions in Cross River State. Also, the independent variables: adequacy, organization and accessibility of information resources of the study shared a significant relationship with academic performance of students in tertiary institutions. Thus, for academic library (librarians) to continue to serve their essence in sustaining students’ academic performance, care must be taken to ensure that library resources are adequate, well organized and accessible to all students of the academic community. Based on the result of the study, the following recommendations were made: That tertiary institutions and academic libraries should set-up principles for evaluation of students’ level of utilization of information resources in order to ascertain to what extent library resources are utilized and do something about it and that academic librarians should periodically review library resources to check their level of adequacy, organization and accessibility so that their role would be significant in promoting effective utilization of information resources and academic performance of students in tertiary institutions.

Abstract

In Ohafia Local Government Area, the dynamic interplay between family ties and marital stability presents a complex problem. This region, characterized by its strong cultural and familial bonds, raises questions about how these deep-rooted family connections impact the resilience and longevity of marriages. The intricate relationships within families in Ohafia, including extended family influence, cultural expectations, and traditional values, potentially exert significant effects on marital harmony and stability. Understanding these relationships is crucial for addressing marital challenges and enhancing family wellbeing in the community. The aim of the study is to explore the relationship between family ties and marital stability in Ohafia Local Government Area and its implications. This study utilizes Family Systems Theory to examine the influence of familial relationships on marital stability. A correlational research design was employed, with a sample size of 400 determined by Taro Yamene’s formula and selected through random sampling across towns and villages in Ohafia. Data analysis involved Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient using SPSS version 25. The study found a significant correlation between family ties and marital stability, underscoring the influence of familial relationships on marital outcomes. The results affirm Family Systems Theory, suggesting that family dynamics, including extended family involvement, deeply affect marital satisfaction and longevity in Ohafia. It is recommended to implement family-oriented educational programs and counseling services that focus on enhancing understanding and management of familial influences on marriages. Further research should explore intervention strategies that can strengthen marital bonds within the context of family dynamics in Ohafia.

However, the influence of books and cartoons on children's behavior is the subject of much debate. Some argue that books have a greater impact as they encourage critical thinking and promote positive values, while others argue that cartoons have a stronger impact due to their ability to captivate and entertain young minds.
