Abstract

Integrating information and communication technology in modern education is very instrumental in changing the way mathematics is taught and learned. Research in the Philippines explores how ICT is integrated into the country's teaching of math, outlining opportunities and challenges for Filipino teachers and students. This study used a systematic literature review with the aid of the PRISMA framework. A total of 22,800 scholarly articles in Google Scholar was reduced to 994 after title and keyword screening. After the final analysis, 12 articles met all criteria. Literature review shows that integrating ICT into math education offers an incredible number of benefits such as increased student engagement, new pedagogies, improved classroom management, flexibility in learning and teaching, and enhanced assessment. ICT improves contact between teachers and students as it creates possibilities for computer-supported collaborative learning using tools such as virtual manipulatives and simulations to deepen understanding of skills referred to as higher-order thinking. Several challenges still exist despite the benefits. Most schools lack proper ICT infrastructure: reliable internet and enough devices. The budget makes it hard to acquire equipment or relevant software needed for such instruction. Some teachers are not confident and need training in using ICT, and technical support is not adequate. These will only lead to uneven use of ICT in classrooms, hence limiting the possible impact on mathematics teaching. Infrastructural improvements, funds, and training of teachers, when coupled with technical support, might propel more efficient integration of ICT in math instructions within Philippine education. These will build vibrant learning environments that pave the way for learners toward success in a world increasingly dominated by digital technology.

Abstract

This study conducts a contrastive analysis of the news surrounding the martyrdom of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, as reported in Arabic and English media. By examining selected headlines, the research highlights the differing thematic emphases and linguistic choices that shape public perception in each context. Utilizing a contrastive analysis model based on Gee (2014), the study identifies themes such as martyrdom, sacrifice, resistance, and vengeance. Thematic analysis, as outlined by Braun and Clarke (2006), reveals how these themes resonate differently with audiences, while linguistic analysis informed by Fairclough (1995) underscores the cultural significance of specific word choices. Furthermore, cultural contextualization is explored through Said's (1978) framework, emphasizing the role of cultural identity in shaping narratives. Qualitative interpretation, guided by Charmaz (2006), provides insights into how these contrasting portrayals reflect broader ideological divides and influence regional dynamics. The findings suggest that while Arabic narratives evoke deep emotional responses tied to loss and martyrdom, English narratives prioritize strategic implications and calls for retaliation. This study contributes to a nuanced understanding of how media representations of Nasrallah's death reflect divergent cultural values and political contexts, ultimately shaping public sentiment across different regions.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of democratic and autocratic leadership styles on teacher performance in basic education schools in Baucau town, Timor-Leste. Leadership style plays a pivotal role in educational outcomes, yet limited research has explored its influence in the Timor-Leste context. Employing a quantitative approach, data were collected via teacher questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression in SPSS. Three hypotheses were tested: the individual impact of autocratic (H1) and democratic (H2) leadership styles, and their combined impact (H3) on teacher performance. Results reveal that while democratic leadership significantly enhances teacher performance, autocratic leadership does not have a significant effect. However, both styles together have a combined impact. These findings underscore the importance of fostering democratic leadership to create inclusive and collaborative school environments. The study recommends that national education authorities prioritize leadership training and policy reforms to enhance democratic leadership practices.

Abstract

The rise of information and communication technology, particularly social media, has profoundly shaped human behaviour due to its global acceptance and relevance in various areas of life. Students, in particular, are increasingly active on social networking platforms, often displaying inappropriate usage, such as during lectures or in places of worship. This study explores how social media usage affects the academic performance of science education students at universities in Rivers State, Nigeria. A sample of 1,026 students was randomly chosen from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) and Rivers State University (RSU) to complete a questionnaire designed by the researcher. Results of the study revealed that students primarily use social media for communication (mean = 3.89), with Facebook being the most frequently used platform for academic purposes (mean = 3.92) and skype the least used (mean = 1.03). The result also show that while social media has both positive and negative effects on academic performance, poor time management and unregulated use significantly contribute to the negative impacts. To address these issues, students are encouraged to adopt effective time management strategies and prioritize their responsibilities and social media usage. Additionally, students should focus on leveraging social media to enhance their academic outcomes rather than engaging in excessive or nonessential activities on social media.

Abstract

This study critiques President Bush’s speeches on the Iraq war and terrorism through the lens of Chilton's emotional theory, highlighting the complex relationship between language emotion and politically persuasive belief. The study, which deconstructed five significant speeches between 2001 and 2003, reveals how Bush used emotional rhetoric to stir public sentiment and justify military action. Using a rigorous approach to discourse analysis, the study identified eight vital emotional components, such as fear of attack and safety. It showed. It showed that 59% of the sentences analyzed were designed to evoke specific emotional responses. The findings underscore the strategic use of language in political discourse, demonstrating how emotional manipulation serves as a means to influence public opinion and legitimize the legitimacy of controversial policies. Moreover, Political speech is a powerful linguistic tool in world politics that can identify the destiny of countries under the conditions of war. Therefore, it is worth investigating the strategies that politicians apply in their political speeches to achieve their political goals. This study critically examines President Bush's speech on the Iraq war and terrorism through Chilton's emotional theory. The study shows that political discourse is not just a means for information but a powerful tool for shaping public sentiment and guiding decision-making. Using emotional language, Bush effectively instilled feelings of fear and belief that were critical to winning public support for military action. The dominant themes of lingering memories of 11 served to incite fear, while assertions about American military strength and security boosted confidence.
