Abstract

ASEAN is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and is one of the five largest economies in the world after the US, EU, China, and Japan. ASEAN-5, the founding countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand ("ASEAN-5"). The ASEAN-5 countries represent 6% of the world's population with a GDP of US$2.75 trillion, growing at an average rate of 3.7% in 2019. With a supportive business climate, ASEAN-5 countries could be the preferred destinations for local or foreign companies to venture into new businesses. This study aims to analyze the impact of governance and digital infrastructure on new business growth in ASEAN-5 countries, using panel data regression approach. This study finds that profit tax, corruption perception, internet user, secure internet and access to electricity are significantly correlated with new business growth. Time to start a business is found to be insignificant but negatively correlated with growth, implying that more efficient bureaucracy promotes business growth.

Abstract

This article discusses the transformation of multiculturalism in the technological age, focusing on the challenges and opportunities. Technology's ability to connect people from different cultural backgrounds extends the reach of multiculturalism, enabling the exchange of ideas, values, andexperiences. However, challenges suchas cultural appropriation and differing interpretations can threaten respect for cultural diversity. Unequal access to technology can lead to inequalities in cultural participation and digital literacy, widening the gap between social groups. To meet this challenge, efforts are needed to ensure equal access to technology and digital inclusion for all groups. However, the technological age also offers opportunities for multiculturalism. Digital technology can be a tool to promote constructive intercultural dialogue, increase knowledge of other cultures and builddeeper understanding. It is important to develop applications and platforms that strengthen fair and respectful cultural exchange. To meet the challenges and seize the opportunities, holistic policies and approaches are needed to develop multiculturalism in the technological age. Governments, civilsociety organizations and civil society must work together to promote digital inclusion, support digital and intercultural literacy, and develop regulations that encourage the responsible use of technology.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between digital media use and maternal health care utilization among young pregnant mothers in Kenya. Using a mixed methods approach combining questionnaires and focus group discussions (FGDs), data were collected from pregnant women and new mothers aged 19–35 years in Nairobi. Using Microsoft Excel Data Analysis ToolPak Ver. 2016, primary data were statistically analyzed, while FGD data were subjected to thematic analysis and narrative interpretation. Findings revealed that 88% of participants preferred internet searches for information, 92% used different digital media during pregnancy, 56% used pregnancy apps, and 9% abstained from digital media for maternal health information. The study concludes that, in addition to the continued importance of traditional sources of information, digital media have a significant impact on the use of maternal health services. It recommends that health care providers actively usedigital media, especially apps, as educational tools to disseminate reliable information to young pregnant women and new mothers in Kenya. It also recommends that planners and policymakers incorporate digital media into maternal health interventions to increase their effectiveness.

Abstract

Social media, usually used as a medium to communicate with each other, has been transformed into a means/container to express Gus Nadir's ideas about the Qur'an and tafsir. This paper aims to examine Gus Nadir's ideas about numerical tafsir, which deviate from his concern about arbitrary interpretations and tend to be mere matchology on social media. An in-depth analysis of his work entitled "Tafsir Al-Qur’an di Medsos: Mengkaji Makna dan Rahasia Ayat Suci Pada Era Media Sosial" will be conducted, but the author limits the object of study only to the sub- theme entitled "Tafsir Otak Atik Angka". This paper is presented using a descriptive method supplemented by reflection, interpretation, criticism, and comparison as analysis needs. It was found that Gus Nadir, a cleric, and legal activist, expressed his frustration in "Tafsir Otak Atik Angka" as a response to the justification of politicians using the Qur'an. Although Gus Nadir emphasizes in-depth study, he does not elaborate on the relationship between the interpretation of numbers and gratuitous interpretation. Nevertheless, his efforts to reveal the model of numerical interpretation according to the method of scholars must be appreciated, even if it is limited to a short writing in cyberspace.

Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of teenage students spamming through Facebook and the impact on their learning activities at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Islamiyah and Madrasah Aliyah Islamiyah, Gresik, Indonesia. This research uses qualitative research methods with a phenomenological approach, and the technique in determining informants is using purposive sampling techniques, and the method in collecting data itself is done through observation and interviews. As a reference in analyzing data and explaining related phenomena in this study, namely using Max Weber's Theory of Action. The results of this study show that students who commit spamming actions are motivated by the economic conditions of their families due to the pandemic and distance learning, as well as the influence of the actions of their friends and the environment around them, with some of the effects experienced by them, namely, often losing focus on learning, not paying attention to class and even sleeping in class during class hours, and skipping class, up to dropping out of school.

Abstract

This study explores the widespread adoption of the keffiyeh trend within the global community, including Indonesia, as a form of solidarity in support of Palestine. The surge in the keffiyeh trend intensified following Israel's forceful assault on Palestine, purportedly in response to Hamas' actions on October 7, 2023.Employing virtual ethnography through the analysis of social media content, the research delves into the historical context of the keffiyeh among Arabs. Known by different names across various Arab nations, such as kufiyah, gutrah in Saudi Arabia, shemag in Iraq, and keffiyeh in Palestine, this head-to-neck covering initially served as protection for village workers during outdoor activities. In the 1980s, the keffiyeh underwent a transformation into a fashion accessory, gaining popularity among young individuals with a bohemian style in New York. Notably, major global brands like Balenciaga and Louis Vuitton even incorporated keffiyeh motifs into their products. Despite its fading significance, the keffiyeh experienced a resurgence as a symbol of solidarity during global demonstrations and actions defending Palestine following Israel's renewed attacks. Participants in the Palestine Defense March prominently featured the keffiyeh, sharing images on social media platforms, notably Instagram, leading to a resurgence of the keffiyeh trend within the wider community.
