Abstract

Health resilience is a critical determinant of communities' ability to adapt to and overcome health challenges, particularly in contexts with significant socio-economic and healthcare disparities, such as Nigeria. This qualitative study explored the potential of mindful practices and cultural integration to enhance health resilience within Nigerian communities. Using purposive sampling, 30 participants, including healthcare professionals, cultural leaders, and community health workers, were selected from diverse regions of Nigeria. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings highlight the positive impact of mindfulness on emotional well-being and stress management, revealing its potential to improve health outcomes when adapted to align with local traditions. Culturally embedded health practices were found to play a pivotal role in shaping health behaviors, fostering community acceptance, and strengthening resilience. However, barriers such as limited awareness, resistance to change, and insufficient policy support hinder the widespread adoption of these integrated approaches. This study addresses gaps in existing literature by offering actionable insights for designing context-specific health interventions that leverage both modern psychological tools and traditional cultural practices. The integration of mindful practices and cultural dimensions presents an innovative pathway to address Nigeria's healthcare challenges, aligning with global health goals and fostering sustainable, culturally sensitive healthcare models. Future research should focus on evaluating the long-term impacts of such interventions and their scalability across diverse communities.

Abstract

This study analyzed data gathered from healthcare professionals, parents, and existing health records through questionnaires to objectively evaluate the impact of immunization programs in lowering childhood illnesses. Measles (95.0%), polio (93.5%), diphtheria (91.0%), pertussis (89.5%), and hepatitis B (90.0%) vaccination rates were all high. These illnesses were also found to have low incidence rates, with measles and polio having the lowest rates (0.5 and 0.1 per 1,000, respectively). The effectiveness of vaccination has been found to be influenced by a number of factors, including healthcare accessibility, socioeconomic position, vaccine awareness, perceived vaccine safety, and community engagement. Despite the study's general success, there is always room for improvement, especially in terms of addressing socioeconomic hurdles and preserving pertussis coverage. These results are consistent with previous research and emphasize the necessity for ongoing immunization campaigns, booster shots, and focused community involvement initiatives to improve the efficacy of immunization programs and safeguard children's health throughout the world.

Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study is to discover how telemedicine contributed to increase access to healthcare in rural regions by looking at the point of view of both the involved healthcare professionals and of the patients. For the geographic areas that are poorly endowed with medical facilities telecommunication is seen as an efficient way of overcoming geographical barriers and shortages of medical equipment. In this study, the cross-sectional quasi-experimental design utilizes semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions and observation to establish the barriers, effectiveness, and socio-cultural factors regarding the telemedicine adoption. The study shows that telemedicine improves the possibilities of getting an initial consultation regardless of geographic distance, helps to avoid delays while finding a specialist, and creates a connection to advanced treatment. However, challenges which act as barriers include; weak internet connection, low technology literacy, and resistance to change. Inequalities and cultural shifts in patient and healthcare provider’s perceptions of technology, as well as comfort with tele-communication and tele-befriending over in-person contact, also influence the readiness of patients and healthcare officials to adopt telepharmacy. Power relations also come out in the presentation, with telemedicine holding benefits, especially for women in the inaccessible regions. The study further underscores the importance of a better appreciation of context when adopting telemedicine programs for greater improvement and sustainably. In summary, this paper adds value to extant knowledge by exploring the mediated nature of technology culture and health care delivery in hard-to-reach regions and offering direction for enhancing the use of telemedicine solutions in rural regions.

Abstract

Dengue fever continues to be a vital health risk that affects people in South Sulawesi's tropical areas along with other regions. This research investigated dengue fever prevalence rates together with their environmental risk factors between urban and rural settings through a quantitative cross-sectional research design. A total of 350 households participated in the study with 175 in urban areas and 175 in rural areas. The researchers used structured questionnaires together with official health records and field observations to collect the data. This research applied logistic regression along with ANOVA and Pearson correlation techniques to evaluate important determinants as well as identify environmental differences between the urban and rural zones. The study revealed that urban population experienced a higher occurrence of dengue fever with rates at 27% whereas the rural population reported 16% cases. Risk factors associated with uncovered water containers in addition to poor waste management and high population density defined urban settings however rural areas experienced dense vegetation and inadequate waste disposal approaches. Research findings demonstrated that stagnant water (p0.001) together with poor waste management (p0.001) and vegetation density (p0.005) created statistical links to dengue prevalence. The research completes missing knowledge by showing different transmission factors between distinct geographical areas through direct comparison of urban versus rural patterns. This study demonstrates why public health intervention needs such specific methods. The focus of urban intervention programs should be waste management along with mosquito breeding site control yet rural intervention strategies need to focus on vegetation management coupled with better healthcare accessibility.

Abstract

This study evaluated the impact of Automated Dispensing Systems (ADS) on medication safety and workflow efficiency in hospital pharmacies. A quasi-experimental design was employed, comparing pharmacy operations before and after the implementation of ADS in a tertiary care hospital. Data were collected from 50 pharmacy staff members and secondary data on medication errors and workflow efficiency, with operational metrics such as dispensing time, error rates, and prescription processing rates. The results indicated a 77.1% reduction in medication errors, with significant improvements in the accuracy of drug dispensing, dosage, and labeling. Additionally, workflow efficiency was enhanced, with dispensing times reduced by an average of 7.4 minutes per prescription, and the number of prescriptions processed per hour increased by 60%. Paired t-tests, regression analysis, and ANOVA tests were used to analyze the data, revealing that ADS adoption led to measurable improvements in both safety and efficiency. The study further found that pharmacist training and system readiness were critical factors in maximizing these benefits. These findings suggest that ADS technology can significantly improve medication safety by reducing errors and enhancing workflow, offering valuable insights for hospitals considering the implementation of automated systems. This research fills a gap in existing literature by providing empirical data on the specific impact of ADS on different types of medication errors and by offering a comprehensive analysis of both operational metrics and staff perceptions.

Abstract

Flooding has long been recognized as a significant public health hazard, particularly in regions with inadequate sanitation infrastructure. This study investigates the impact of flooding on sanitation and disease outbreaks in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, using a quantitative approach. A sample of 400 households from urban, peri-urban, and rural areas was selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using structured surveys and secondary data from health centers and meteorological agencies. The study examined sanitation conditions before, during, and after flooding events, and the prevalence of waterborne and vector-borne diseases. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression models were employed to analyze the data. Results revealed a substantial deterioration in sanitation conditions during flooding, with significant increases in the prevalence of waterborne (60%) and vector-borne diseases (50%) compared to pre-flooding levels. The correlation analysis indicated strong relationships between flooding intensity, poor sanitation, and higher disease prevalence. Regression models confirmed that flooding intensity and sanitation conditions were the primary predictors of disease outbreaks. These findings underscore the critical role of maintaining sanitation infrastructure during flooding and highlight the increased vulnerability of lower-income households. This study contributes to the literature on flood-induced health risks, offering valuable insights for disaster management and public health policy, particularly in developing regions facing similar challenges.

Abstract

Urban green spaces and their components of parks, gardens and forests stand essential to environmental health by delivering multiple advantages which support both ecological and social health and public welfare. The review analyzes the major environmental health benefits of urban green spaces which primarily originate from their regulatory functions for air quality, their climate control capabilities and their service capacity to biodiversity preservation. The presence of green spaces in urban areas enhances air quality since they capture pollutants like carbon dioxide together with nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter thus diminishing respiratory disease risks. The green spaces serve as heat island regulators that create cooling effects which become particularly crucial during periods of extensive heat. Ecosystem balance in urban areas benefits from urban green spaces through their provision of habitats for plant and animal species allowing the enhancement of biodiversity. The designed areas enhance climate regulation through their capability to capture carbon while performing effective stormwater management and building urban climates that resist climate change impacts. The review demonstrates why urban planners should prioritize adding green infrastructure because it deals with neighborhood environmental concerns at the same time as solving worldwide problems including climate change and biodiversity reduction. Cities develop sustainable healthier living environments when designers focus on green spaces correctly and set their priorities.

Abstract

A research investigation evaluates public health strategies along with their ability to stop infectious diseases from spreading in rural populations. This study measured disease incidence through a quantitative research design focused on evaluating how health education combined with vaccination coverage alongside sanitation access and vector control methods affect disease transmission. The researchers collected their data through surveys which they analyzed by describing it statistically along with applying inference through regression analysis. Health education showed clear effectiveness in cutting down the occurrence of respiratory infections together with diarrheal diseases and vector-borne diseases. The level of vaccination preparedness demonstrated a powerful inverse link to the occurrence rates of disease prevention cases along with malaria and additional vector spread illnesses. The study confirmed access to sanitation facilities as the main factor for cutting down waterborne disease occurrences but also proved how vector control strategies like insecticide-treated nets played an essential role in fighting malaria and dengue infections. Empirical evidence demonstrates that rural areas benefit from combined public health interventions because this research fills gaps in scientific knowledge about these strategies in rural regions. The research demonstrates why rural communities should use multiple integrated strategies to combat their heavy infectious disease load. Research conclusions demonstrate an acute need for policymakers with public health practitioners to implement these interventions which will lead to better health results in underserved populations.
