Abstract

From its initial participation in the SEA Games in 1977 to 2019, the Indonesian men's basketball team has never won a gold medal. Before the 2022 SEA Games, Indonesia created history by becoming the first country to win a gold medal. This study aims to understand better the conversation surrounding the 2022 Southeast Asian Games men's basketball team. This qualitative study employs Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis method. The study's analysis unit is online news on Mainbasket.com from April 1 to May 29, 2022. The finding of this study demonstrates that the conversation in the online news outlet "Mainbasket" has picked up signs of apprehension among the Indonesian basketball team ahead of the 2022 SEA Games in Vietnam. Mainbasket also highlights the four leading players of the Indonesian national basketball team. Mainbasket also appreciated the athletes for winning the first gold medal in Indonesian basketball. In addition, this victory is only considered a stepping stone towards the FIBA ASIA Cup 2022 and leads to a match at the FIBA World Cup 2023. To cite this article (7th APA style): Putranto, T. Abstract

Behavior carried out by the public who adheres to heteronormative ideas towards gender minorities, such as transwomen, often results in acts of persecution and hegemony in the real world. This action is the result of self-expression carried out by transwomen. With the existence of social media, self-representation can be done by transwomen without thinking about the persecution they will get. But on the other hand, the hegemony obtained by transwomen on social media still occurs. Based on this, the recent study looks at the self-representation carried out by transwomen on social media, especially their personal Instagram, as a form of digital activism. This article focuses on the narratives conveyed by three transwomen, namely, Alegra Wolter, Ian Hugen, and Anggun Pradesha. These three subjects were chosen because they have unique backgrounds and used them to produce narratives about transwomen. Using qualitative content analysis techniques, this research analyzes their self-representation on Instagram as a form of digital activism, specifically as a 'counter-discourse'-a form of resistance that challenges the dominant discourse. This article reveals that both Alegra Wolter, Ian Hugen, and Anggun Pradesha have similarities and differences in Instagram representation. This difference in representation is likely due to the different backgrounds of each research subject. To cite this article (7th APA style): Kulau, K., Aini, S. N., & Akalili, A. (2023). Abstract

New media entrepreneurship has become the most popular business model today. This study demonstrates the motivations and strategies of Muslim women entrepreneurship on WeChat. Using a qualitative approach, data were obtained from eight female entrepreneurs in Yiwu, China, through in-depth interviews to enable the women to voluntarily and earnestly express their stories and experiences in entrepreneurial activities. The interview results were then analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings revealed that Muslim women's motivations for venturing into WeChat business entrepreneurship were mainly attributed to increasing family income, following their entrepreneurial education background, and the idea that it is a simple operation and involves low investment, making it an accessible and potentially lucrative business model. Other findings include how they promote the products mainly through relationship building and friendship. Challenges in doing business were also shared and explained in the findings. By showing the actual situation of Muslim women entrepreneurship in China and how WeChat enables these women to be empowered and form relationships to strengthen their business activities, this study provides deep insights for practitioners and academics. To cite this article (7th APA style): Zheng, X. & Noordin, W. Abstract

This article maps the Indonesian Ministry of Finance's communication crisis in 2023, which resulted from violence by the son of a ministry official. Using document search and issue tracking methods, the study found patterns of issue spread from the root of the crisis, triggering the crisis, hooking the crisis, neglecting the crisis, mishandling the crisis, and miscommunicating the crisis. Crisis mapping is essential to read the direction of the spread of issues and potential problems in the future so that appropriate communication can be handled to prevent the crisis from exploding and spreading uncontrollably.

Abstract

The overuse of social media has given rise to having secondary accounts on one platform. Various studies have found motives for double accounts, especially on Instagram, such as identity disguise, personal use, creative expression, and privacy. More-login can help manage multiple accounts while maintaining anonymity and security, making it easier for users to explore various aspects of their online presence. Fake Instagram accounts (often called ‘finsta’) are also widespread. Apart from personal motives, there are also ‘professional’. Motives that lead to crime. This article highlights the use of multiple accounts in the context of communication corruption by dissecting aspects of corrupt messages, media misuse, context exploitation, and corrupt behaviour. A case study approach by analysing two participants secondary accounts in depth, accompanied by interviews, digital observations, and document searches, indicates that message corruption occurs in the form of content manipulation, both visual and verbal, concealment of facts, and euphemisms for evil—media corruption by impersonating social media accounts and using media to inflate one’s meaning. Context corruption occurs in inauthentic impression management and misleading public views toward a particular self- picture. Corrupt behaviour is indicated by intentions, motives, and obsession with concealing self-facts and constructing a false social image. The practice of multiple accounts implies that users not only have a ‘other world’ that is free, authentic, and sometimes anti-mainstream but also an image and life imprisoned by the social eye on the other side. So, the second account can be called a social escape room. This research is novel because it first examines the second account phenomenon from the perspective of communication corruption theory with its various consequences. To cite this article (7th APA style): Nasution, A.
