Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of the problem solving profile of SPLTV students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Banawa Tengah in terms of mathematical ability. This study uses a qualitative method with a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects were 3 students, namely students who had high, medium and low mathematical abilities based on the problem solving steps proposed by Polya. The results obtained indicate that: (1) Students who have high mathematical abilities use all stages of Polya in solving SPLTV problems. (2) Students who have moderate mathematical ability have not been able to use all of Polya's stages in solving SPLTV problems, the stages in question are in the re-examination stage. However, the subject gives his opinion by explaining using his own language why not re-examine the results of the completion of the given problem. (3) Students who have low mathematical abilities have not been able to go through all the stages of Polya in solving problems, the subject is only able to go through the stage of understanding the problem but the subject needs to read and pay attention to the information on the problem repeatedly.

The subjects of this study were grade IX students of SMP Negeri 02 Baras which consisted of one student with high math ability and one student with low math ability. Collecting data by giving assignments and interviews. The results of this study are: (1) Students' mathematical representation on visual representation for students with high mathematical abilities to solve problems by making pictures of geometric patterns to clarify and facilitate completion, students with high mathematical abilities make geometric patterns according to the problem given, namely drawing cubes and pyramids, while students with low math skills do not draw geometric patterns to clarify and facilitate completion. (2) Students' mathematical representation on symbolic representation for students with high and low mathematical abilities to solve problems involving mathematical expressions, namely determining the formula used using mathematical symbols and performing number operations correctly. (3) The students' mathematical representation on the verbal representation for students with high mathematical abilities explains the steps for solving mathematical problems in written and oral texts, while students with low mathematical abilities are still wrong in determining the steps for solving them.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the problem solving of fractional. This type of research is descriptive using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were grade VII students of SMP Negeri Model Terpadu Madani Palu consisting of 3 students who were divided into 1 student with high mathematical abilities, 1 student with moderate mathematics ability, and 1 student with low mathematical abilities selected based on processing the final semester exam scores in odd semester 2021/2022. The results showed that students whit high math skills were able to solve problems well based on Polya’s problem solving steps, starting from the stage of understanding the problem, to the stage of re-examining the answers. Students who are mathematically capable are doing mathematical problem solving well at the stage of understanding the problem, the stage of making plans, but at the stage of implementing the plan students are wrong in changing the fraction division operation into the form of fraction multiplication operations, moderately capable subjects do not change the position of the numerator into the denominator and the denominator into the numerator which is the settlement area, the stage of re-checking the students answers only checks again by looking at the results of the answers. Students whit low math abilities have not done problem solving well, that is, they can only rewrite existing information without understanding the existing information, unable to make plans because they feel confused in thinking about plans that must be used to solve problems, cannot carry out problem solving plans. And can’t recheck the answer. This is because students cannot solve the given problem.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain an overview of fractional problem solving in terms of mathematical ability in class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Pamona Timur. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects consisted of three students with high, medium and low abilities. Data collection techniques in this study were written tests and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the subject's ability to solve fraction problems according to Polya's stages are as follows: (1) the stages of understanding the problem of high, medium, and low ability subjects read repetitive problems, mention information that is known based on declarative sentences and information asked based on imperative sentences or question of the problem appropriately. (2) the stage of preparing a problem solving plan for subjects with high, medium, and low abilities in making a problem solving plan, namely stating the information asked to make a mathematical model in the form of adding and subtracting fractions based on what is known correctly. (3) the stage of carrying out the problem-solving plan, high-ability subjects carry out the problem-solving plan in accordance with what has been planned correctly, while subjects with moderate and low ability carry out the problem-solving plan according to what was planned beforehand but not quite right. (4) the stage of re-examining the results of solving high-skilled subjects did not write down how to check answers, but when interviewed by researchers, high-skilled subjects were able to re-check the answers that had been written down. Meanwhile, subjects with medium and low abilities were sure of their answers and did not re-check their answers, because they did not understand how to re-check their answers

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe of errors made by student in class XI MIA 1 Madrasah Aliyah Al-khairaat kalangkangan in solving narrative questions on arithmetic sequences and series based on newman’s stages. This type of research is descriptive using a qualitative approach. Subjects were 2 students drawn from 36 class XI MIA 1. The results of this study were (1) no reading error made by the subjects as they able to read out the questions given very well. (2) no of the subjects made a comprehension error, this could be seen during the interview, all research subjects were able to provide known and asked information from the questions. (3) Transformation errors were made by all research subjects. This transformation error is characterized by the subject failing to change the problem into the correct mathematical model and the subject being wrong in determining the formula to be used to solve the problem. (4) Process skill errors were made by all research subjects, this was indicated by the subject knowing the steps to solve the problem but was wrong due to the subject's error at the transformation stage and the subject could not carry out the mathematical calculation process correctly. (5) errors in writing the encoding error were made by all research subjects, this was indicated by the subject not determining the final result of the answer and the subject being wrong in determining the correct answer due to errors made in the previous stage.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the creative thinking ability of students with high and moderate abilities in solving open ended quadratic equation problems in class XI MTsN 1 Palu City. The two students selected as research subjects consisted of a high-ability student and a medium-ability student. This type of research is qualitative research. The data collection techniques used are tests and interviews. The results showed that the subjects had high and medium abilities, (1) At the fluency stage, high and medium ability subjects met all indicators where students were able to solve the given problems with various ideas or solutions to do the problems, (2) At the flexibility stage, high-ability subjects had met all indicators where students could do in two ways, namely the first to do by factorization and the second to do by using the ABC formula, while moderate ability has not met the fluency indicator because it has not been able to do it in another way, (3) At the novelty stage, high-ability and medium subjects have not met the novelty indicator where students have not been able to create or do it in their own way. High-ability subjects meet 2 indicators so that the level of creative thinking of high-ability subjects is at level 3, namely the creative category. While the subject with moderate ability meets 1 indicator so that the level of creative thinking is at level 1, which is the less creative category.
