Abstract

This study examines the concept of prophetic i‘jaz in the Qur’an as one of the dimensions of its miraculous nature that affirms the truth of divine revelation and the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him). Prophetic i‘jaz refers to Qur’anic statements concerning future events that were later historically verified, such as the prophecy of the Roman victory over the Persians mentioned in Surah ar-Rum (30:2-4). This research employs a library-based qualitative approach by analyzing classical and contemporary scholarly works addressing Qur’anic i‘jaz from linguistic, historical, and scientific perspectives. The findings indicate that prophetic i‘jaz plays a crucial role in strengthening Islamic creed, legitimizing the prophethood of Muhammad, and affirming the Qur’an as a divine scripture beyond human authorship. Furthermore, prophetic i‘jaz demonstrates the timeless relevance of the Qur’an and serves as a rational approach to Islamic preaching by integrating faith with reason and historical evidence. Therefore, prophetic i‘jaz holds not only theological significance but also epistemological and methodological implications for contemporary Qur’anic studies.

Abstract

This study presents a conceptual review examining the role of Islamic banking microfinance facilities in poverty alleviation in Nigeria. Islamic financial institutions have become an integral component of the modern global economy and operate under similar economic principles as conventional financial systems, while maintaining distinctive ethical and Sharia-based foundations. Over the past decade, Islamic microfinance has demonstrated significant potential in promoting financial inclusion and reducing poverty, particularly among low-income communities in Nigeria. Unlike conventional microfinance, which is largely interest-based and may involve elements of uncertainty, Islamic microfinance operates on profit-and-loss sharing and asset-backed financing principles derived from the Holy Qur’an and Sharia law. Islamic banks provide various microfinance instruments, including Musharakah, Mudarabah, Murabaha, Ijarah, and Qard Hasan, each characterized by transparency, real asset valuation, and clearly defined contractual obligations. These features encourage productive economic activities and facilitate the circulation of wealth among the poor. This paper adopts a conceptual framework based on library research and secondary data, drawing from relevant literature on Islamic microfinance, sustainable development, and poverty alleviation. The study highlights the relevance of Islamic microfinance as a sustainable and ethical financial alternative for addressing poverty challenges in Nigeria.

Abstract

This study examines cultural acculturation in the Kalang Obong tradition in Tratemulyo Village, Kendal, from the perspective of Islam. The Kalang Obong tradition, which involves the rite of honoring the deceased through the burning of dolls and belongings belonging to the deceased, shows the synergy between elements of local culture, Hinduism, and Islam. The research method used is an ethnographic approach with phenomenological studies to understand the meaning of local community actions. The results of this study show how the Kalang people can maintain their traditions while adapting to Islamic religious values, creating a space for dialogue between cultural preservation and religious commitment.

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic education faces the challenge of separation between rational-secular and religious-spiritual approaches, which hinders the formation of individuals who are intellectually and spiritually whole. This study aims to analyze Al-Farabi's epistemology as a philosophical foundation for the development of Islamic education that integrates rationality and religiosity. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach based on literature study with conceptual and hermeneutic analysis of Al-Farabi's works and related literature. The results show that Al-Farabi's epistemology, through the concept of the hierarchy of reason (potential, actual, acquired, and active reason) and the integration of reason and revelation, offers an educational framework that positions both as complementary elements in the process of acquiring knowledge, from sensory experience to the attainment of transcendental truth, with the ultimate goal of true happiness (al-sa'adah). The contribution of this research lies in strengthening the philosophical foundations of integrative Islamic education that transcends mere cognitive achievement to include character building and spiritual orientation, thus offering an alternative to modern educational models that separate knowledge from moral-spiritual values.

Abstract

In 2024, the escalation of radicalism into the digital sphere, known as cyber-radicalism, poses a critical threat to Generation Z by exploiting social media algorithms to propagate exclusive ideologies. Amidst this digital vulnerability, pesantren-based madrasahs in Solo Raya demonstrate unique resilience mechanisms grounded in local wisdom. This study aims to analyze the construction of school resilience in countering radical narratives across three strategic institutions: MA Al-Muayyad Surakarta, MA Al-Manshur Klaten, and MA Al-Muttaqien Pancasila Sakti. Employing a qualitative method with a multi-site case study design, the research draws upon data from in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal a comprehensive "School Resilience Ecosystem" supported by three core pillars: (1) Ideological Resilience, achieved through the internalization of the "Pancasila Sakti" doctrine and nationalist rituals to counter anti-state narratives; (2) Cultural Resilience, which utilizes arts such as Saman Dance and Batik to dismantle egoism and foster student inclusivity; and (3) Institutional Resilience, implemented through a non-violent pedagogical approach. The study concludes that integrating pesantren traditions (turats) provides an effective shield against global radicalism currents. Consequently, these findings imply a need for deradicalization policies to shift from a security-oriented approach toward a cultural immunization model.

Abstract

The interpretation of ecological verses disseminated through media with different ideological bases has an impact on the construction of meanings that tend to be contradictory. In this context, the ideological configuration of each media influences the way ecological verses are interpreted. The NU Online and Buletin Dakwah Kaffah accounts are Islamic media that actively respond to ecological issues with the content of religious text interpretations that appear significantly different. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the representation of ecological interpretations in the two accounts which are strongly suspected of reflecting their idiological preferences in producing religious discourse related to ecology. This research uses a qualitative method with content analysis as a data analysis tool. The findings of this study show that there are differences in orientation between NU Online and Buletin Dakwah Kaffah in articulating the values of ecological awareness based on Quranic verses. The NU Online account in this case displays a moderate and contextual interpretation of ecology by emphasizing the principle of human responsibility in maintaining the balance of nature. In contrast, the Buletin Dakwah Kaffah account constructs ecological issues in a tolitarian-centralistic framework that emphasizes the dimensions of rigid sharia obedience and inserts provocative political narratives against the role of the government (upholding the Islamic caliphate as the only solution to the ecological crisis). This finding shows how digital space has become an important arena in the formation of a dynamic Islamic ecological discourse while showing the contestation of religious ideologies in responding to environmental issues.
