Abstract

Low bulb supply of bawang sabrang be trouble in propagation. For that purpuse bulbs divisionaimed to decreasing bulb needed and the right comparing of planting media can increase growthand yield of bawang sabrang. This research was conducted in experimental field at Jl. Pembangunanin April- July 2013, used randomized block design with two factor etc bulb division (no division, 2part division, 4 part division) and comparing planting media (topsoil, topsoil+compost 1:1, 2:1,3:1). Parameter observed was germination time, plant height, number of leaves, number of bulbs persample, fresh bulb weight per sample and fresh bulb weight per plot.The result of this researhshowed that bulb division significantly decreased germination time, plant height, number of bulbsper sample, fresh bulb weight per sample and fresh bulb weight per plot.Comparing of plantingmedia significantly effect number of leaves, number of bulbs per sample, fresh bulb weight persample and fresh bulb weight per plot. Interaction between bulb division and comparing plantingmedia significantly number of leaves, number of bulbs per sample, fresh bulb weight per sampleand fresh bulb weight per plot. Abstract

For increasing rubber production, seed factor very important as rootstock origin. Seed haverecalsitran characteristic that cause the deteoration. The seed that have gotten the PEG treatment tomaintain the viability, tested further as rootstock origin. The purpose of this study was to test therootstock of the rubber (Hevea brassiliensis, Muell-Arg.) originated by the seeds that have gottenthe PEG treatment with some clones of Scion for the success of grafting the research have done onMarch until June, 2013 in the publics land at Pasar I Tanjung Sari, Medan. The design of researchthat be used is Randomize Complete Factorial Design with two factors and three replications. Thefirst factor is rootstock seed of rubber that has been gotten the seed treatment (0%, 15%, 30%, 45%PEG concentrate) and the second factor is scion (IRR 104, IRR39, IRR 72 clones). The parameterthat be observed is break bud in field, the length of bud and the diameter of bud. The result showedthat the rubber rootstock seed that have given the seed treatment did not effected significantly on allof parameters. The type of scion did not effected significantly on all of parameters. The interactionsbetween rootstock and the scion did not effected significantly also. On all of the parameters the bestresult that gained on the rootstock of rubber seed that have given by the seed treatment is theconcentrate of PEG 30% and bud of IRR 104.Keywords: Rootstock of rubberseed, Scion clones, grafting.

Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to determine respons in growth and yield of watermelon topaclobutrazol and dosage of NPK fertilizer. This research had been conducted at field of Pasar Istreet no. 89, Tanjung Sari, Medan (± 25 in above sea level), in April-July 2013 using factorialrandomized block design with two factor, i.e. concentration of paclobutrazol (0, 150, 300, and 450ppm) and dosage of NPK fertilizer (60, 120 and 180 g/plant) in six times. Parameter observed wereplant height, number of female flowers, number of male flowers, total weight persample and totalweight perplant. The result showed that paclobutrazol concentration affect significantly on plantlength (6-8 weeks after planting), number of female flowers (35 and 38 days after planting), numberof male flowers (41 and 44 days after planting), total weight persample, and total weight perplant.Dosage of NPK fertilizer affect significantly on number of male flowers (44 days after planting).Interaction affect significantly on number of female flowers (35 and 38 days after planting) andnumber of male flowers (41 days after planting).Keywords: watermelon, paclobutrazol concentration, and dosage of NPK fertilizer

Abstract

Using of traditional medicine is growing rapidly at this time. Eleutherine americana Merr. is one ofkind plants that potentially can be traditional medicine. This research is proposed to find out theproper plant spacing and addition of rice straw compost of Eleutherine americana. This researchwas conducted at Jalan Pasar 1 Tanjung Sari, Medan with altitude ± 25 m above sea level from Mayto September 2013, using factorial randomized block design with two factors. The factors werevarious plant spacing (20x15, 15x10, 10x15 cm) and addition of rice straw compost (0; 0,5; 1kg/plot or 0, 10, 20 ton/ha) used three replications. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and continuedwith Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Parameters were observed sprouting age (day), heightof plant (cm), number of bulb per sample and fresh bulb weight per sample (gram). The resultsshowed that the plant spacing effected significantly on sproutig age, height of plant except 9-12weeks after planting, and the number of bulb per sample. Addition of rice straw compost notsignificantly on any parameters. The interaction of two factors effected significantly on height ofplant 4 and 5 weeks after planting.Keywords : Plant spacing, rice straw compost, Eleutherine americana Merr.

Abstract

The elevation and slope effect significantly to growth and rubber (Hevea brasiliensis Muell. Arg.)production . This research was done in Hapesong Farm, Batang Toru sub-district in July – August2013. The aim of this research is to know the effect of elevation and slope on rubber production inHapesong Farm. The sampling used free survey method and Geographic Informatin Systems (GIS).The variables are elevation and slope, and then analysed by regretion method.The result showedthat elevation, slope is significant to decrease the rubber production, but jointly elevation and slopedo not. Elevation of the best places in the study area is 84.5 meters above sea level. The land on theelevation 294.5 meters above sea level, preferably the rubber is not planted anymore.Keyword: elevation, slope, rubber

Abstract

Sugarcane stem borers Chilo spp. are the important pests on sugarcane estate and need the seriouscontrolling. The using of parasitoid is the one of way to control the stem borers population whichsafe for environtment and human.The objectives of the research were to study the ability ofparasitoid C. flavipes on larvae of C. sacchariphagus and C. auricilius. The research was held atLaboratory of Sugarcane Research and Development Sei Semayang, Binjai, Medan, NorthSumatera from Mei until July 2013. The method used Randomized Complete Design with threefactors, the first factor was kind of host (C. sacchariphagus and C. auricilius), the second factorwas number of host (2, 3, 4 larvae) and the third factor was method of parasititation (artificial andnatural) with three replications. The results showed that method parasititation significantly effectedthe percentage of parasititation. The highest percentage of parasititation (40,83%) on artificialparasititation and the lowest (27,30%) on natural parasititation. The number of host significantlyeffected sex ratio. Abstract

The seed of rubber is a kind of recalcitrant seeds which is have a low shelf life with the result thatquickly in deterioration so it needed a special treatment in storage period to maintain the seedviability. By using the osmotic solution concentration of Polyethylene Glycol 6000 and seed dryingwhich is very helpful in recalcitrant seed storage due to it has osmotic cell potential to restrict thealteration of water and oxygen capacity in seed. This research aimed to get the optimal of osmoticsolution concentrations and drying time to maintain the seed viability of Rubber. It conducted sinceApril until June 2013 in Laboratory of Plant Breeding, Agriculture Faculty, University of SumateraUtara. The research uses the completely randomized design with two treatments as factor and threereplications. The first factor is osmotic solution concentration of PEG 6000 of PEG 6000 : 0, 15,30, and 45 (% w/v) and other factor is drying period : 0, 4, 8, 12, 16 (hours). The results showed theosmotic solution concentration of PEG 6000 30% w/v significantly in seed growth rateafter storageperiod 3,49% etmal and maximum potential growth 64,22%. 4 hours drying period is the best inseed growth rateup to 3,49 3,89% etmalwith 66,94% maximum potential growth. The osmoticsolution concentrations of PEG 6000 30% w/v and 4-hour drying period is the best combination oftreatments which can seed growth rate up to 3,95% etmal with 66,67% maximum potential growth.Keywords: Rubber seed, osmotic solution concentrations of PEG 6000, drying, seed storage.

Abstract

Potato is horticulture crops that able to consume its corm and used as food materials until a raw material toindustry in Indonesia . However, potato production capacity is not proportional to the increase in demand forpotatoes this time, one of this problem due to lack of availability of quality seed. In vitro tecniques is oneway that can be taken by using nodes as seed. Sucrose and cytokinin have an important part on it wheresucrose acts as a carbon source and energy while cytokinin is important in cell division to support a nodesgrowth. The research aimed to get a suitable concentration of sucrose and 2-isopenteniladenine (2-ip) forgrowth of number of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) nodes by using in vitro methode. The research wascarried out in the Tissue Culture Laboratory, agriculture’s Faculty of North Sumatera University from Juneto September 2013. This research used Randomized Block design with two factors. First factor was sucroseconcentration consist of four level: 35 g/l; 50 g/l; 65 g/l; 80 g/l. The second factor was 2-ip concentrationconsist of five level are 0 mg/l; 2 mg/l; 4 mg/l; 6 mg/l; 8 mg/l. The results showed that sucrose gavesignifiantly effect to number of nodes after darkness period parameter. 2-ip concentration give significantlyeffect only on number of nodes after lighting period. Abstract

P availability in soil is often be the limiting factor on plant growth and production. Phosphatesolubilizing organism is one of alternative to solve this problem. The aim of this study was todetermine the effect of phosphate solubilizing fungi and mycorrhizae and their interaction toincrease P availability and P absorption by Maize on Alkaline Soil . This research was conducted inthe green house, Soil Biology laboratory and Chemical and Soil Fertility Laboratory of FakultasPertanian USU in March-August 2013, used Randomized Block Design (RBD) factorial consistingof 2 factors and 4 replications. The first factor was phosphate solubilizing fungi inoculationconsisting of 2 treatments (with and without inoculation) and the second factor was mycorrhizaeapplication consisting of 3 treatments (0, 10, 20 g/polybag). Parameters observed were soil pH,P-availability, C-organic, plant height, stem diameter, shoot dry weight, root weight, P-absorption,100 seeds dry weight, mycorrhizae infection and phosphate solubilizing fungi population. Theresult showed that phosphate solubilizing fungi inoculation significantly affected phosphatesolubilizing fungi population and not affected others parameters, however it increased plant growthand production. Mycorrhizae application decreased soil pH, stem diameter, and increasedmycorrhizae infection significantly. Mycorrhizae application dose of 10 g mycorrhizae resulted thehighest plant height, shoot dry weight, highest P-absorbtion, 100 seeds dry weight but decreasedC-organic and P availability.Keywords: phosphate solubilizing fungi, mycorrhizae, alkaline soil, maize

Abstract

Puar tenangau is a herbal plant of Zingeberaceae that from Thailand. The Plant has a big potential aspharmacy and traditional medicines, but the spread of this plant was unknown well in Indonesia even soneeded a conservation for this plant. In vitro conservation is a one of alternative. Treatment of periodsubculture is one way to get the explants with optimal growth.The research aimed to determine theappropriate sub culture period to obtain the micropropagation of Puar Tenangau (Elettariopsis sp.) the best asplantlets. The research was carried out in Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Department of Agroecotechnology, Faculty ofAgriculture, University of North Sumatera, Medan from November 2012 to August 2013. The research used CompletelyRandomized Design with 1 (one) factor that sub culture period with 4 (four) treatment , which are : 0 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks,and 6 weeks after culturing from 10 weeks of incubation. The result showed that subculture period not givevaffected on the percentage of explant growt, leaves number, and plant length.Key words : micropopagation, Elettariopsis sp., subculture period
