Abstract

Marriage is both a religious obligation and the only religiously sanctioned means of fulfilling sexual needs. Beyond meeting biological needs, marriage entails mutual responsibilities, including the husband's obligation to provide financial support and the shared responsibility of maintaining family harmony. This study examines married student couples in the Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Kandangan, who continue their education after marriage. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation and analyzed inductively. The findings reveal that household economic needs are met through a combination of family support and the couples' independent efforts, reflecting Islamic values of family solidarity and productive work. Family relationships were generally harmonious despite the challenges of balancing marital responsibilities with ongoing educational commitments. The study concludes that married student couples face dual demands in managing family life while pursuing their education.

Abstract

The Qur'an and the Sunnah, as the two primary sources of Islamiclaw, continue to present interpretive challenges that contribute to scholarlydisagreements. One notable example concerns the prophetic traditions (hadith)on ru'yat al-hilal (crescent moon sighting) for determining the beginning of theIslamic lunar month. An examination of Sahih Muslim (Al-Maktabah AlShamilah edition) reveals significant textual variation among the narrations.Eight traditions (Nos. 5, 10–16) either omit the term ru'yah or its lexicalderivatives, or preserve alternative textual formulations, while ten traditions(Nos. 3, 4, 6–9, and 17–20) explicitly employ the term ru'yah and its relatedexpressions. These textual differences correspond to the diversity oftransmission chains (isnad). Ideally, the available narrations should produce nomore than two principal textual forms, reflecting their original transmissionfrom the two primary Companions, Abu Hurairah and Ibn ʿUmar. However,the existing multiplicity of textual variants obscures the originality of thetransmitted wording. Regardless of the long-standing debate over thepermissibility of transmitting hadith by meaning (riwāyah bi al-maʿnā),historical evidence demonstrates that the Prophet's diverse practical precedents(fiʿliyyah), together with differences in narrators' interpretive capacities andtransmission tendencies across various isnads, have contributed to theemergence of multiple textual versions of the same hadith. Consequently, thesetextual variations have generated diverse legal interpretations andunderstandings within the Islamic scholarly tradition

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic Religious Education (IRE) instruction still tends to focus on cognitive and formalistic approaches that prioritize the transfer of knowledge, thereby failing to fully address the challenges of extremism and social polarization emerging in society. This article aims to formulate a systematic strategy to reorient religious instruction toward internalizing the values ​​of Islam as Rahmatan lil 'Alamin Islam that brings mercy to all creation. Employing a descriptive qualitative method based on library research, the study identifies three key areas for reorientation: reconstructing the curriculum based on values ​​of inclusivity and multiculturalism; transforming teaching methods to be dialogic and reflective; and restructuring the learning environment by strengthening school culture. The findings indicate that instilling values ​​of peace, tolerance, and humanity can be effectively achieved through internalization strategies that integrate the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Consequently, reorienting IRE instruction requires teachers to act not merely as conveyors of material but as facilitators who foster the realization of religious moderation.
