Abstract

Deli River has been used by people for a long time for washing clothes, utensils, bathing and as latrine. The human activity in the estuary of Deli River causes the river polluted with organic and inorganic pollutant and harm microorganism. The type of waste pollution in waters is related to the type and number of microorganism in the water. The urban and rural waste is not only increase the growth of coliform bacteria but also increase the number of other pathogen bacteria. Deli River Estuary has been polluted indicated by total bacteria count in the area is (811 x 105 cfu/ml). This exceeded threshold value determined by the Regulation of Minister of Living Environment (2004). There were 9 species of potential pathogen bacteria identified using API 20 E i.e: Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxytoca, Klebsiella ornithinolytica, Cedecea lapegei, Aeromonas hydrophyla, Aeromonas sobria, Aeromonas caviae, Ewingella americana and Vibrio fluvialis.Keyword : Deli River, E.coli, Pathogen Bacteria.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine antimicrobial effectivity of soursop leaf (Annona muricata L.) against bacterial pathogens Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwarsiella tarda and fungus Saprolegnia sp. and to determine the extract toxicity to Artemia salina Leach. Extraction was done by maceration method using methanol, ethyl acetate and n-hexane. Phytochemical test was conducted to all extracts. Antimicrobial effectivity test was done using the agar diffusion method. Toxicity test was conducted using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test. The result of phytochemical test of soursop leaf extract showed that the extract contained of alkaloid, phenolic, and steroid/terpenoid. Antimicrobial test showed that the soursop leaf extract inhibit Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwarsiella tarda bacteria to some extent while fungus Saprolegnia sp. was not inhibited. All extracts were medium and highly toxic. LC50 of extract of ethyl acetate, methanol and n-hexane were 12.16, 13.07, 63.23 ppm, respectively. Keywords: Antimicrobial effectivity, Toxicity, Aeromonas hydrophila, Edwarsiella tarda, Saprolegnia sp.

Abstract

Goldfish spawning is done naturally, so the success of the nurseries are still low. The success of spawning is influenced by several factors, including the handling of aircraft, particularly in stimulating technological parent spawning, egg incubation and larval treatment. How that can be done to stimulate the provision of parent fish are egg laying substrate. This study aims to determine the type of engaging subsrat eggs that give the best effect on the success of spawning goldfish (Carassius auratus). This research used experimental and observational methods, research design used was a completely randomized design (CRD). Tacks substrate type eggs are used as treatment, water hyacinth (Eicchornia crassipies), rafia rope and sugar falm fiber. Each treatment was repeated three times, so there are 9 units of the experiment. The parameters measured were the number of eggs, hatchability and larval survival goldfish (Carassius auratus). The results showed that the number of fertilized eggs on each substrate goldfish obtained F count>F table then H0 is rejected, it means that there are differences in the number of eggs on the substrate for all three treatments were used. Degree of hatching eggs goldfish sugar falm fiberbest is 63.70%, 61.20% and hyacinth rafia rope 45.79%. Water quality in this study have average values: pH 7 and temperature of 28 0C.Keywords: Carassius auratus, substrates, hatchability and survival

Abstract

The research about primary productivity is a common research, it is because by knowing the value about primary productivity that have by the ecosystem, we know the grade of productivity so we can using naturally and sustainable. The research was done in June until August 2014. The aim of this research was to knowing the grade of Primary Productivity of phytoplankton in Ular River at Deli Serdang and to analyze its relationship with the physical and chemical factors. The sampling station was determinated by Purposive sampling method. Samples were collected from 3 sampling station. The primary productivity was measured by the Oxygen method. The result showed that of primary productivity range from 225,216 – 394.128 mgC/m3/day with the highest value at station 2 and the lowest value at station 1. Analysis of pearson correlation Show that the factors which have a very strong relationship with the primary productivity are abundance of phytoplankton, nitrate, DO and light penetration. Factor which has a strong relationship with pimary productivity is pH.Key Words: primary productivity, oxygen methode , phytoplankton.

Abstract

Garing fish is fresh water fish living the river stream.Beside fish living in the river where the water is not pollution. Garing fish so the fish species very speciality in Mandailing Natal region. Fish species Garing fish habitat in Batang Gadis river very influential the fisic and chemical water. Garing Fish is depent of temperature for overflowing of fish. Has been analyzed in March-April 2014 in Batang Gadis river. Sample Identification from four location with three examination. In order to determination sample location is using “Purpossive Random Sampling” and sample analyzed water quality. The result of research in Batang Gadis river have been found one clas from ordo cypriniformes is for about 59 . The Highest population fishes density Garing fish with grade 0,0007 perm², meanwhile the lowest population fish density Garing fish is for about 0,0001 perm². Fish type with the highest presentation is Garing fish for about 50%, meanwhile the lowest is for about 16,6%. The overflowing fish with the highes presentation is Garing fish for about 18,5% and meawhile the lowest is for about 2,0%.Key word : The overflowing fish, Tor tambra, Batang Gadis

Abstract

Food is an important component of the water that influences growth and development of fish. This study aims to determine the food habits of Garing fish (Tor tambra), the availability of natural forage Garing fish, and the efforts of the management of Garing fish resources in Batang Gadis river. This study was conducted in July-August 2014 at Batang Gadis river, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra. Fishing gear used nets ¾ and 1 inch. Analysis of data used the index of preponderance (IP). Material food on the digestion of Garing fish consisted of 12 genus Bacillariophyceae, 10 genus Chlorophyceae, 2 genus Conjugatophyceae, 2 genus Coscinodiscophyceae, 5 genus Cyanophyceae, 1 genus Euglenophyceae, 1 genus Mesotaeniaceae, 1 genus Oligochaeta, 1 genus Plecoptera, 1 genus Rhizopoda , insects and leaf litter. Chlorophyceae was the main food, while insect was a food supplement and Bacillariophyceae, Conjugatophyceae, Coscinodiscophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Euglenophyceae, Mesotaeniaceae, Oligocaheta, Rhizopoda and leaf litter were the extra food. Garing fish it self tends to omnivores to herbivores. Keywords : River, Index of Preponderance, Cyprinidae.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems have ecological functions, one of them is the contributor organic matter in aquatic through the production litter that being decomposed. This study aims to measure the rate leaf litter decomposition and nutrient content C, N and P. The research was conducted from July - October 2014 at the Serambi Deli Beach Pantai Labu distric, Sumatera Utara. The rate of leaf litter decomposition were used 21 bags litter bag at each station. Methods for determining the elements C is a Walkley and Black method, element N is a Kjehdahl method and element P is dry ashing method with HCL 25% extracting. The results measurements of litter decomposition rate was highest on day 15 and 30 was 1.01 g/day and the lowest at day 105 was 0.41 g/day. The value of the decomposition rate constant (k) leaf litter on the station I, II and III respectively amounted to 0.023, 0.024 and 0.025. Results highest nutrient is 28.75% for c analysis, and the lowest is 15.42%, the highest N element content is 0.92% and 0.28% low, the nutrient content highest P is 0.25% and the lowest is 0.17%.Keyword: Decomposition rate, mangrove, Rhizophora apiculata, element
