Abstract

This study discusses the isolation and identification of disease-causing fungi in the seeds of Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) and Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) cultivated in the cultivation pond of Baru Ladang Bambu Village, Medan Tuntung District, North Sumatra. Sampling was carried out as much as 15 fish each. There are four types of fungi that attack tilapia and catfish. The attack rate with the highest species diversity was found in catfish with 4 types of fungi including Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium glabrum, Saprolegnia sp., and Aspergillus niger. Whereas in Tilapia the types of fungi that attack only consist of 2 types, namely Aspergillus flavus and Saprolegnia sp.

Abstract

Indonesia the outbreaks of disease in red spotted fish is caused byA.hydrophila bacteria. Many efforts have been made by the experts to address thisoutbreak by both giving vitamins and giving probiotics and antibiotics. However aprolonged uncontrolled usage and improper dosage may lead to negative impactsto the species. Thus, the use of medicinal plants or fitofarmaka is a solution toovercome these problems. This research aims to know the effectiveness ofFrangipani leaf extract (Plumeira rubra) on the growth of bacteria A. hydrophilaand to determine the minimum dose of Frangipani leaf extract necessary to inhibitthe growth of bacteria. The research was conducted at Laboratory of FishQuarantine, Quality Control and Fisheries Product Safety Level I, Medan I. Theresearch used a completely randomized experiment method with 6 treatmentlevels and 3 replications. The research shows that, the Frangipani leaf extractdoses has highly significant effect on the growth of bacteria A .hydrophila, andthe minimum dose to inhibit the bacteria is 2 % with a clear zone diameter of 6.4mm.Key words : Effectiveness , Frangipani leaf extract, A. hydrophila

Abstract

The Purpose of Lake Toba were very diverse and required water qualityand fulled certain requirements. Otherwise, the used of the lake for the variousactivities of the society also gave impact to water quality degradation. Thisresearch were conducted from May to July 2013 in Lake Toba. This research usedPurpossive Random Sampling. There were 3 locations. Station I: Ajibata area,Station II: Haranggaol area and Station III: Porsea as the outlet of Lake Toba.Sampling activities were conducted once/month. This research aimed to knewheavy metal consentrate of Lead (Pb) and Copper (Cu) in water and sediment.This results showed indicated chemical physics parameter of Lake Tobastilled in the normal range. Concentrations of copper (Cu) in the water column ateach station in sequence 0.027 mg/l, 0.025 mg/l, 0.033 mg/l and the concentrationof lead metal (Pb) in the water column 0.039 mg/l, 0.014 mg/l, 0.029 mg/l. Whilemetal concentrations of copper (Cu) in sediments at each station in sequence1.092 mg/kg, 2.85 mg/kg, and 2.483 mg/kg and the concentration of lead metal(Pb) of 3,058 mg/kg, 3.592 mg/kg and 2,833 mg/kg. These results indicated theconcentration of heavy metal Cu and Pb in the water column had exceeded thequality standard, while concentrations of Cu and Pb in sediments had notexceeded the quality standard.Keyword: Cuprum (Cu), Lead (Pb), Toba Lake, Water Quality

Abstract

Binahong leaves are one of natural product to be used to treat the diseaseof living organisme due to having secondary metabolite to show antibacterialactivity. The purpose of this research was to study secondary metabolite ofBinahong leaves of which showing antibacterial, to analysis effectivity ofantibacterial Binahong leaves extract to inhibit growth of bacteria Aeromonashydrophila. An experimental laboratory with six treatments and three replicationsfor in vitro was tested. A paper disc soaked in a solution of Binahong leavesextract was used for in vitro at a concentration of 0% (w/v); 0,2%; 0,4%; 0,6%;0,8%; positive control (Oxytetracycline). In vitro test showed that Binahongleaves extract inhibited the growth of bacteria A. hydrophila with a inhibitionarea around the paper disc. Diameter Inhibition area that formed was 0 mm ( 0 %negative control ), 8.4 mm (0.2 %), 9.4 mm (0.4 %), 10.5 mm (0.6 % ) ; 11 , 9 mm(0.8 % ), 27.5 mm (positive control). The increase concentration of Binahongleaves extract enhanced the growth inhibition area. Phytochemical screening ofBinahong leaves extract showed that the extracts contained flavonoid, phenol,saponin, alkaloid, steroid/triterpenoid.Keywords : Binahong leaves, Aeromonas hydrophila, flavonoid, phenol, saponin,alkaloid, triterpenoid, β –sitosterol

Abstract

Mangrove forests in Pantai Muara Indah was a buffer and tourism area were located in Denai Kuala Village. Purpose of this research was to asses the potential of mangrove forests, such as type, closure, and fauna of the mangrove forest with visual method. Setting a strategy for sustainable tourism development in the mangrove in Pantai Muara Indah with SWOT analysis .This research found 8 species of mangroves, Avicennia lanata, Avicennia marina, Bruguieira exaristata, Bruguieira gymnorrhyza, Excoecaria agallocha, Hibiscus tiliaceus Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata. Fauna were found in this research area consisted of fish, crustaceans, primates and birds. People around the mangrove forests agree with the ecotourism development activities. The results of the feasibility development analysis with 3 aspects: ecology with the score 36,8, socioeconomic score 22,6, and supporting criteria with a score 9,6, according to criteria of feasibility assessment of tourism development mangrove forests in Muara Indah Beach was feasible to be developed 69,5.Keywords : Ecotourism, Mangrove Ecosystems, Pantai Muara Indah.

Abstract

Coastal area constitute appointment room between continent and ocean. Coastal area constitute ecological unique area because this region have natural resources potency which can be developed as tourism area. One part of the coastal area which is not developed as tourism area is Talugawu Beach at North Nias Regency. Therefore, need to do an analysis by looking at the existing conditions at the beach. Analysis which is used in this research is descriptive analysis, analysis of suitability land for beach tourism recreation category, analysis of community participation and SWOT analysis. Talugawu beach have an attractive natural beauty. From the results of questionnaire, the community around the Talugawu beach has a fairly high involvement in the development of Talugawu beach tourism potential. From the result of suitability land analysis, acquired the value of suitability tourism of Talugawu beach included on S2 category is suitable. Abstract

Aquaculture of Catfish has several advantages, such as rapid growth, high ability to adapt in environmental, and high nutritional content. Nowdays, most of the African catfish aquaculture used intensive farming systems. One of important factor for catfish aquaculture pests and diseases. Disease problems are usually a major obstacle because it can harm aquaculture such as total mortality, productivity and in water quality. One of the diseases that often attack the catfish is A. hydrophila bacterium. This research had been conducted on September – November 2013. This reseach intend to identify and determine spreading of the bacterium A. hydrophila in catfish especially in Medan Tuntungan Sub-district. This research used sampling method, bacterial diagnosis and identification of bacteria. The result showed, from 90 isolates, 19 of them infected by A. Hidrophila bacteria, that was 7 species in pond I, 0 species in pond II, 7 species in pond III, 3 Species in pond IV, 2 species in pond V.Keyword : Cathfish (Clarias batrachus), Bacteria Identify, Types of Bacterias, Aeromonas hydrophila Bacterium.

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystem at Kuala Langsa has been used as one of the tourist area which offer tourism to get closer to nature. At this area had built shelters in the middle of the mangrove forest. Futhermore, there are rivers used as a fishing area, and mangrove forests which still inhabited by monkeys makes potentially used as a mangrove ecotourism.This study was conducted in June until July 2013 and held at mangrove areas of Kuala Langsa at District of West Langsa, Langsa, Province of Aceh. This research using analysis vegetation of the mangroves, tourism suitability analysis, analysis of ecotourism attraction, analysis of the economic value and SWOT analysis.Kuala Langsa mangrove ecosystem inhabited by 5 species are Rhizophora apiculata, Rhizophora mucronata, Xylocarpus granatum, Brugueira gymnorrhiza, Scyphipora hydrohyllaceae. Greatest density of mangrove species is Rhizophora apiculata. Index of ecological suitability for tourism activities in the mangrove Kuala Langsa included into the category corresponding conditional. This category has the limiting factor which shows that to make this site as the location for ecotourism, protection of mangrove ecosystem in order to balance and prevent biodegradation of mangrove that cause damage is important thing to do.Keywords : Ecotourism, Kuala Langsa, Mangrove, Potency.

Abstract

Botia (Chromobotia macracanthus) is a freshwater fish that are having economic value is important because it has high sale value, especially in the ornamental fish market in North Sumatra. Life food is an important factor in the cultivation of ornamental fish. The research was conducted to determine the effect of feeding Tubifex worms (Tubifex sp.) on the growth performance and survival rate of Botia larvae. Tubifex worm culture do by using a wooden box with a recirculation system and the maintenance of Botia larvae done with volume 72 liter aquarium in a closed room.Experimental design using a completely randomized design with 5 treatments with 3 replications, as follows; 1) The Tubifex worms culture given chicken manure fermentation, 2) The Tubifex worms culture given cow manure fermentation, 3) The Tubifex worms culture given sheep dung fermentation, 4) Tubifex without treatment, 5) Pellet ornamental fish. The survival rate was 100 % in each treatments. Feeding the Tubifex worms are cultured with sheep dung fermentation gives the best results on the survival rate (SR), the absolute length (L), absolute weight (W), and daily growth rate (GR), respectively 1.02 cm, 0.91 g, and 2.57% for 30 days of maintenance.Keywords: Artificial feed, Botia, Tubifex.

Abstract

The current of aquaculture development is not accompanied with sufficient fry supply due to some constraints and difficulties in the supply of life food. The life food culture Nannochloropsis sp. by using vermicompost fertilizer has never been used before, while the vermicompost contains nutrient required by cells of Nannochloropsis sp. to support the growth and reproductions. The purpose of this research is to know the influence of the vermicompost fertilizer treatments on the abundance of the cells Nannochloropsis sp. and how much the optimum concentration. This research was conducted in Balai Budidaya Air Payau (BBAP) Ujung Batee, Banda Aceh. The threatment of life food culture was done with 10 liters volume of water about 10 days. Parameter were observed are the growth of abundance Nannochloropsis sp. cells and quality of water. The used by completely randomized design with 5 treatments and 3 times repeatitions. Those 5 treatments are as follows the control treatment with technical fertilizer, 0 ppm (without treatment vermicompost), 50 ppm, 100 ppm, and 150 ppm. The treatments vermicompost fertilizer is effect on the abundance Nannochloropsis sp., the optimum concentration 100 ppm and the medium abundance in day 5 with density 6.895.000 cells/ml.Keywords : Nannochloropsis sp., vermikompost, abundance
