Abstract

Swimming performance is strongly influenced by aerobic endurance, which enables athletes to maintain speed, technique efficiency, and physiological stability during prolonged activity. However, quantitative data regarding aerobic endurance levels among club-level swimmers in Indonesia remain limited. This study aimed to describe the aerobic endurance level of athletes from the Science Swimming Team. A descriptive research design was employed involving 11 swimmers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Cooper Swimming Test conducted over a 15-minute freestyle swimming session, and aerobic capacity was estimated through VO₂max values. The collected data were analyzed descriptively to classify aerobic endurance levels based on established normative categories by sex and age. The findings indicated that most athletes achieved good to very good performance in swimming distance; however, VO₂max classifications showed that aerobic capacity was predominantly in the moderate category, with only one female athlete reaching an excellent level. This disparity suggests that favorable distance performance does not necessarily reflect optimal aerobic capacity. The results imply the need for more targeted training programs focusing on improving VO₂max through structured aerobic and interval-based training. These findings provide practical input for coaches in designing data-driven and individualized training strategies to enhance aerobic endurance and competitive performance in swimming athletes.

Abstract

Self-health education plays a crucial role in shaping the healthy habits, character, and behavior of elementary school students. This learning emphasizes not only physical hygiene but also the development of social and emotional skills that can prevent negative behaviors such as bullying. This study aims to examine teachers' strategies in implementing self-health education as an effort to prevent bullying behavior in elementary schools. The method used was a literature review by analyzing various relevant scientific sources from 2020–2025. The results of the study indicate that teachers' strategies in implementing self-health education include three main approaches: habituating clean and healthy living behaviors, integrating health values into learning, and fostering social-emotional development through reflective activities in the classroom. These three strategies are effective in fostering students' awareness, discipline, responsibility, and empathy towards their peers. Self-health education also contributes to creating a safe, healthy, and respectful learning environment. Thus, self-health education can be used as a preventive strategy to prevent bullying in elementary schools. Teachers act as role models and facilitators who ensure the values of health, empathy, and social responsibility are integrated into teaching and learning activities.

Abstract

The 50 meter freestyle is a sprint event that requires explosive strength, efficient technique, and optimal body stability. Arm muscle strength contributes directly to propulsion, while core muscle strength supports stability and force transfer. This study aimed to analyze the influence of arm and abdominal muscle strength on 50-meter freestyle swimming performance among athletes of the Science Swimming Team (SST) Sidoarjo. A quantitative correlational design was employed with a sample of 10 athletes aged 10–12 years (5 males, 5 females). Arm muscle strength was measured using the pull-up test, abdominal strength with a 30-second sit-up test, and swimming performance with the best time in a 50-meter freestyle trial. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation and multiple linear regression with a 0.05 significance level. Results indicated a significant correlation between arm strength and swimming performance (r = 0.773; p = 0.009), while abdominal strength showed a positive but non-significant correlation (r = 0.609; p = 0.062). Regression analysis revealed that both variables together explained 57.7% of the variance in swimming speed. It is concluded that arm muscle strength has a dominant influence on freestyle sprint performance, whereas core muscles serve as supporting factors for stability and efficiency. These findings highlight the importance of integrated training programs combining arm and core strengthening to optimize sprint performance in young swimmers.

Abstract

Basketball requires mastery of basic technical skills and supportive physical conditions, including agility, which plays a crucial role in dribbling control and game effectiveness. In the extracurricular activities of Stepa Basketball Madiun, agility training has not been applied systematically, necessitating effective training methods to enhance athletes’ abilities. This study aimed to examine the effects of zig-zag run and shuttle run exercises on athletes’ agility and to compare the effectiveness of both exercises. A numerical methodology utilizing a pre-experimental One-Group Pretest–Posttest framework was implemented. The participants comprised 12 athletes between 13 and 15 years of age, who were allocated into two intervention groups. Data were collected using the Edgren Side Step Test before and after six weeks of training, conducted three times per week, and analyzed using t-tests. The results indicated that both exercises significantly improved athletes’ agility, with shuttle run showing a slightly greater improvement than zig-zag run. These findings reinforce the concept that agility can be enhanced through structured training emphasizing directional changes and speed, and provide practical implications for coaches to integrate shuttle run and zig-zag run exercises in training programs to optimize athletes’ performance.

Abstract

This study examines the evolving landscape of racket sports and its implications for injury patterns among diverse athlete populations. Over the past decade, traditional sports such as tennis and badminton have remained popular, while emerging sports like padel, pickleball, and beach tennis have experienced rapid growth, attracting participants across a wide age spectrum. However, the high-speed, repetitive, and multidirectional demands of these sports increase the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, making it essential to understand their epidemiology for effective prevention. This systematic literature review followed PRISMA 2020 guidelines, analyzing peer-reviewed studies published between January 2020 and early 2025 from databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Europe PMC, and Open Alex. A total of 22 studies met the inclusion criteria, comprising randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, and cross-sectional surveys. Methodological quality was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool (RoB 2) and the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). The findings reveal significant variation in injury prevalence across sports, ranging from 34.2% in recreational pickleball to 92% in competitive padel. Badminton injuries were predominantly acute and affected the lower limbs, while tennis showed a higher incidence of overuse injuries in the upper limbs and trunk. Padel players frequently experienced elbow overuse injuries, with higher rates reported among females. In contrast, pickleball injuries were largely associated with falls among older adults. Preventive interventions involving supervised, sport-specific functional training and structured warm-up programs were found to be most effective. In conclusion, injury burden in racket sports is substantial and influenced by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, highlighting the need for targeted, sport-specific prevention strategies.

Abstract

This study aims to descriptively analyze the ability of elementary students to imitate rhythmic gymnastics movements through the Just Dance Now application in Physical Education learning at SDN Bulay 1 Pamekasan. The background of this research stems from the low motivation and movement accuracy of students in conventional rhythmic gymnastics learning. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study involved 24 fifth-grade students as subjects. Data collection techniques included participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that students' ability to imitate rhythmic gymnastics movements through Just Dance Now falls into the sufficient category, with students demonstrating good proficiency in basic movement patterns but experiencing challenges in complex body coordination and musical rhythm synchronization. The application successfully enhanced student enthusiasm and engagement compared to traditional methods. However, technical constraints such as internet connectivity and limited space were identified as implementation barriers. This study implies that digital game-based media like Just Dance Now can serve as an effective alternative visual aid in elementary physical education, particularly for rhythmic gymnastics instruction. Educators are encouraged to integrate technology creatively while addressing infrastructural limitations to optimize learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to improve student engagement and learning outcomes in the subject of Natural and Social Sciences (Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam dan Sosial / IPAS) through the implementation of the Auditory, Intellectually, Repetition (AIR) learning model in a fourth-grade elementary school class. The initial problem indicated that student engagement in learning was still low, at 37.5%, with learning mastery reaching only 33.3% and an average class score of 68.0, which did not meet the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM) of 75. Therefore, improvement efforts were needed through the implementation of a more active and student-centered learning model. This study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, where each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 24 fourth-grade students. Data collection techniques included observation of student engagement, learning outcome evaluation tests, field notes, and documentation. Student engagement data were analyzed using percentages, while learning outcomes were analyzed through mean scores and the percentage of classical learning mastery. The results showed a significant improvement in each cycle. In Cycle I, student engagement increased to 62.5%, with learning mastery reaching 54.17% and an average score of 74.29, although it had not yet achieved classical completeness. In Cycle II, student engagement increased to 87.5%, with learning mastery reaching 100% and an average score of 85.42. These improvements indicate that the implementation of the AIR model was able to gradually and sustainably enhance both the learning process and outcomes. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the Auditory, Intellectually, Repetition (AIR) learning model is effective in improving student engagement and learning outcomes in IPAS. This model can serve as an alternative learning strategy to create a more active, systematic, and student-centered learning environment.
