Abstract

Over the past few decades, the global tourism industry has seen significant growth, leading to an increased demand for culturally immersive travel experiences. This study the importance of food in modern tourism, where it serves not only as a basic necessity but also as a vital tool for experiencing and understanding local cultures. Local cuisine, often referred to as "local flavor," has become a central attraction in the tourism industry due to its embodiment of unique creativity, cultural heritage, and the values of indigenous communities. Local food also has the potential to promote cultural diversity in the era of globalization. This research investigate the various challenges faced by local cuisine in the context of global tourism, including the preservation of food authenticity while catering to the preferences of global travelers. It will also explore the role of local food in shaping perceptions of tourist destinations, examining how the tourism industry influences people's views of local cuisine and its role in facilitating an understanding of local culture. Striking a balance between maintaining the authenticity of local food and meeting tourists' expectations is a complex challenge to be discussed in this study. The findings of this research have the potential to offer valuable insights into the impact of local cuisine on the tourism sector, the image of local food, business opportunities, and cultural influence. It is expected that these research findings contribute to the development of strategies aimed at promoting local culinary traditions, preserving cultural sustainability, and enhancing truly authentic tourism experiences.

Abstract

The New Normal era that emerged as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic presents new challenges in the management and administration of tourist villages. Tourist villages are destinations that are very vulnerable to changes in tourist behavior and government regulations. Therefore, this research seeks to understand the management of tourism village governance in the New Normal era. This research uses a qualitative approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis related to tourist villages. Respondents interviewed included tourist village managers, local communities and tourists. The collected data was analyzed using the content analysis method. Research findings reveal that management of tourist villages in the New Normal era faces several significant challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced tourist village managers to adapt their business models, which include implementing strict health protocols and adapting tourism services to meet New Normal requirements. In addition, the active involvement of local communities in decision making and promotion of tourist villages has become an important factor in maintaining the sustainability of these destinations. This research underlines the importance of adaptation and innovation in tourism village governance in the New Normal era. Tourism village managers must collaborate with government institutions, local communities and other stakeholders to overcome existing challenges. Apart from that, prioritizing increasing awareness of health and hygiene protocols is important in facing New Normal conditions. By doing this, tourist villages can continue to operate safely and sustainably, while providing meaningful tourism experiences to their visitors.

Abstract

The development of snack bar products using black wheat as the base ingredient and hibiscus flavoring is expected to yield new variations of snack bar products. This study aimed to: Determine the preference levels for the color, aroma, texture, and taste of black wheat snack bars with hibiscus flavor; 2 Determine the carbohydrate, fat, and fiber content of snack bars that are accepted by consumers. The research employed experimental methods, sensory evaluation, and laboratory testing. Three experimental designs were used, involving the addition of hibiscus powder at 5%, 10%, and 15% of the weight of black wheat flour. Data obtained from sensory evaluations were analyzed descriptively, while data from nutritional content test were compared with Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs). The research results indicated that the black wheat snack bar with 15% hibiscus powder addition was the most preferred product among the panelists, with 60% of panelists choosing this product. The nutritional content per 30g serving of the black wheat snack bar with hibiscus flavor included 21.9g of carbohydrates, 4.4g of fat, and 1.6g of fiber. Therefore, by consuming this snack bar, 7% of the RDA for carbohydrates, 7% of the RDA for fat, and 5% of the RDA for fiber can be met. In conclusion, this product can be recommended to individuals who want to maintain their health despite frequent snack consumption.

Abstract

Cultural heritage is one of the attractions of cultural tourism to attract tourists to visit a place. The local cultural landscape in the form of traditional houses and megalithic remains scattered across West Nias Regency is a special attraction for tourists. War strategies and local traditional rituals influenced the figure of Omo Hada. Buildings characterized by oval-shaped vernacular architecture are called in the local term "owulo". However, unfortunately, age and climate factors have made Omo Hada a building that has become obsolete over time. It was discovered that currently Omo Hada is threatened with extinction and has been contaminated by modern materials and supporting buildings. This research is basically to reveal the form and symbolic meaning and socio-cultural values ​​contained in the traditional house (Omo Hada) in West Nias Regency. This data collection was carried out by observation, documentation, interviews and literature study. Findings show that Omo Hada is no longer built by the community due to strict customary processes, and their numbers are also decreasing. West Nias Regency does not yet have traditional house names as its cultural identity, and there is no digital interpretation media for conservation. This discovery can provide recommendations to policy makers so that the name Omo Hada "Owulo" is patented as the name of the Traditional House of West Nias Regency. Cultural heritage needs to be equipped with interpretive media that is appropriate to current developments to preserve information and cultural heritage values.

Abstract

This paper investigates the impact of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) on the Malaysian tourism business. AR and VR have emerged as revolutionary forces, transforming a wide range of industries, with tourism at the forefront of this digital transition. Augmented Reality complements real-world experiences by superimposing digital information on top of the physical world, whereas Virtual Reality immerses users in simulated environment. AR and VR have completely transformed the tourist experience, including planning, booking, on-site exploration, and post-trip comments. AR applications enrich the tourist experience by providing interactive maps, historical insights, and real-time translations, whereas virtual reality (VR) technologies enable deep interaction in a variety of fascinating activities and provide a fascinating insight into the destination's attractions.

Abstract

Halal tourism in Indonesia has experienced rapid growth and has become a strategic sector in the economic and cultural landscape. In an effort to maximize this potential, the smart tourism approach has become the foundation for a holistic development strategy. The aim of this writing is to provide a comprehensive overview of the development strategy for halal tourism in Indonesia through the smart tourism approach. By analyzing its progress, identifying challenges, and formulating solutions, this writing aims to offer a profound and solution-oriented perspective. This article is a literature review utilizing qualitative methods. Document data is collected from relevant journals and books and analyzed using content analysis methods. The research findings indicate that the smart tourism approach, through the utilization of digital technology, engagement with local communities, and strengthening infrastructure, is key to the success of halal tourism development. This integrated solution not only creates significant economic opportunities but also supports cultural preservation, positioning halal tourism as an inclusive and competitive sector on a global scale.

Abstract

Sustainable waste management needs serious attention, starting from the concern about people's habits of carelessly disposing of household waste, leading to a dirty and slum environment. If this problem is not addressed, it will become a serious problem that will certainly disrupt people's lives. Facing this situation, the community proactively formed a task force to creatively deal with waste, starting from the utilization of plastic waste that accumulated in the community. This research aims to find out the implementation of plastic waste management with recycling techniques in Bank Sampah Wares, located at Widosari No. 21, RT 03, RW 04 Tegalrejo, Salatiga. This study used a qualitative field research approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and literature studies to explore data and understand waste disposal stakeholders, and their participation to help solve waste problems. The results showed that along with the development of science and technology, the Bank Sampah Wares community implemented a plastic waste processing process using recycling techniques by developing plastic waste into unique and modern handmade products. The handmade product can then be utilized to increase economic value. Besides that, the waste processing site can also be used as a place to foster creativity without requiring high costs by utilizing processed plastic into creative products. This research should be conducted to show that waste bank goods have a strategic role in educating changes in the behavior of residents of the environment in utilizing of waste.

Abstract

Community-based tourism is part of sustainable tourism development. Community-based tourism involves the community as the main actor in its management and aims to increase economic and industrial activities, preserve culture, and improve the economies of local communities. This research aims to describe the pentahelix model in community-based tourism development in Situbondo Regency, East Java. The research method used is qualitative research with a case study approach. The research data were collected from observations, interviews and documentation. The research data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The results showed that community-based tourism development in Situbondo Regency has involved collaboration among actors in the pentahelix model, namely local government, academics, industry and business, the community, and mass media. The local government acts as a regulator in formulating policies related to community-based tourism management. The community, as the manager of community-based tourism, prepares institutional planning and organization and builds cooperation with academics and businesses in developing innovation, knowledge and competence in human resources and business management. The mass media play a role in the promotion and marketing of community-based tourism. However, the cooperation between the actors in the pentahelix model has not been optimal, especially with the limited involvement of industry/business and mass media. There is a need to strengthen cooperation among actors and to strengthen the institutional capacity of the community as a manager of community-based tourism.

Abstract

Bale Tani is one of the traditional houses with a unique architectural form typical of Lombok and still survives to this day. Full of philosophical meaning, the traditional Bale Tani house is proof of the high philosophy of life of the Lombok people, especially the Sasak tribe. However, with increasingly rapid development, the meaning of building a house with a design based on philosophical values ​​is now becoming increasingly rare. The purpose of this article is to find out the symbolic meaning or philosophy contained in every architectural design and construction of the typical Lombok Bale Tani traditional house which is always held in high esteem. The research method is a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. This research was conducted in Sade Hamlet, Rambitan Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok Regency, the informants in this research were the community, traditional leaders and cultural observers. Data collection methods use observation, interviews and documentation with data analysis techniques using interactive analysis models. Based on research results obtained in the field, building houses with designs based on philosophical values is now becoming rare, especially for modern houses. However, for the people of Lombok, the design and architecture of the traditional Bale Tani house is still being preserved. We can see this directly in the Sade Tourism Village. In this tourist village there are around 150 traditional Bale Tani houses which are still original.

Abstract

The PBPM program is part of the development of operational school curricula specifically for students from Papua by highlighting local wisdom values and modernization knowledge as the main learning outcomes that must be mastered by students in order to master certain competencies. PBPM aims to introduce Papua culture to Papua students and provide them with the skills needed to compete in the global world. PBPM is implemented at the Indonesian Children's School (SAI) Sentul Bogor, which is a boarding school for Papua students. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach to describe and explain the implementation of the Papua Culture and Modernization Study Program (PBPM) at the Indonesian Children's School (SAI) Sentul Bogor. The PBPM research program at the Indonesian Children's School (SAI) Sentul Bogor uses data collection techniques in the form of documentation, interviews, and observation reviews and conducts interviews with 17 informants consisting of school principals, deputy principals for curriculum, teachers, administrative staff, and students. The results showed that PBPM uses a skill-based approach and utilizes existing local assets. Students learn about Papua culture through various activities, such as conducting Papua reality studies and seven cultural elements, which are then assisted by modern science-based skills such as agriculture, animal husbandry, language, and technology. PBPM has provided many benefits for Papua students and the community. Students who participate in PBPM have shown improvements in both academic and non-academic achievements. PBPM also serves as a means of transformation for Papua students from the traditional system to modernization without leaving their culture, so that Papua students are relevant in globalization and able to compete in the 21st century.
