Abstract

Traditionally, family sociocultural values are core to childcaring and rearing, crucial and a necessity for children’s cognitive development, growth, and learning; thus, this qualitative study sought views of parents on the sociocultural development of their 0-4-year-old children attending ECD centres/preschools/ECD Centres, in four ECD centres in the East London District, of the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa (SA). Bronfenbrenner’s (1979) Ecological Systems Theory was used as a theoretical framework to guide this study. The study was located within the Interpretivist paradigm and used a Case study design to explore the topic. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data, which was analyzed using a thematic approach. Purposive sampling was used to sample fourteen parent participants comprising nine females and one male aged between 25 and 50 years and four grandmothers aged between 55 and 80 years. The research question was, do parents perceive any alignment between home and ECD centres in terms of sociocultural values. The parent participants in this study echoed the importance of family sociocultural values which are ignored and rejected by ECD centres as irrelevant. The study therefor concludes that the ECD centres are perpetuating deculturisation of mainly Black children. The study, therefore, recommends the compulsory use of South African indigenous languages in ECD centres to embed and transmit sociocultural values.

Abstract

Study This is motivated by the importance of the role of teachers in managing effective learning, especially at the elementary school level, which often faces various constraints in implementation. Focus study This identifies and analyzes teacher problems in implementation learning at SD Negeri 1 Pondok. The purpose of the study is To describe problem skills in listening to learning Language Indonesia and describe the strategies for strengthening skills listening to in learning Language Indonesia in State Elementary School Pondok 01. Type of research This uses qualitative. The research method used is a case study. Data collection techniques in this study use interviews, observations, and documentation. Interviews with teachers in grades 1, 2, and 3. Observations are carried out directly during classroom learning. Documentation is by collecting documents relevant to the study. The data analysis technique used in this study is the Miles and Huberman model, namely: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The novelty of this study lies in the emphasis on the integration of solutions based on the real needs of teachers in the field, which can be concrete input for elementary education policymakers in formulating strategies to improve the quality of learning. Based on the results of research conducted by SD Negeri Pondok 01, show that the problems of listening skills in learning Indonesian in lower grades include low student concentration, minimal learning motivation, and a less supportive learning environment. These three factors hinder students from understanding and processing oral information optimally. To overcome these problems, teachers apply reinforcement strategies in the form of using interesting learning media (such as pictures and videos), fun learning methods (such as questions and answers and role-playing), and light and fun evaluations. This strategy has been proven to help gradually increase students' interest, participation, and listening skills.

Abstract

Students' understanding of mathematical concepts is still a challenge, especially in solving problems that require procedural and conceptual understanding, such as on the topic of circles. This study aims to analyze the types of errors made by students in solving mathematical problems on the topic of circles using the Newman's Error Analysis (NEA) procedure. The approach to this study is descriptive qualitative, conducted at SD 050661 Kwala Bingai with 20 subjects of grade VI-A. Data were collected through written tests and analyzed using five stages of NEA: reading errors, understanding, transformation, process skills, and writing final answers. The results of the study showed that most students made errors at the stages of understanding, transformation, and process skills. Factors causing errors include lack of conceptual understanding, procedural errors, and inaccuracy in solving problems. The conclusion of this study shows the need for an active role for teachers in identifying and overcoming student errors through appropriate teaching methods, especially on the topic of circles. This study is expected to provide an overview for teachers in designing appropriate learning strategies to improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

Vocational High Schools (SMK) accounted for the highest unemployment rate by educational level in 2024, primarily due to a lack of work readiness. One factor that is predicted to influence work readiness is self-efficacy. This study aims to examine whether self-efficacy can significantly affect an individual's work readiness. The study was conducted using a quantitative design and engaged 102 students as respondents from 10th and 11th grades at SMK Gatra Praja, Pekalongan, selected through quota sampling. Two scales were used in this research: General Self-Efficacy Scale to measure self-efficacy and Work Readiness Scale to assess students' work readiness. This study utilized simple linear regression analysis to examine the effect of self-efficacy on work readiness. The analysis indicate that self-efficacy significantly affected work readiness, with a significance value of 0,001 < 0,05. The study also found a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0,598, indicating that self-efficacy contributed 59,8% to work readiness, while the remaining 40,2% was affected by additional factors that were beyond the scope of this study. These findings can serve as a basis for developing school-based career guidance programs aimed at fostering or enhancing students’ self-efficacy to improve their work readiness.

Abstract

Background – Digital transformation in the Industry 4.0 era has elevated the importance of product visual literacy, especially in digital marketing strategies. Among MSME actors, the ability to produce compelling product photos is essential for enhancing digitalpreneurial competence. Research Urgency – Despite this shift, the training processes at Balatkop Semarang remain conventional, with limited technology integration and inadequate instructional materials tailored to learners' needs. This creates a gap between current learning practices and the demands of digital entrepreneurship. Research Objectives – This study aims to analyze the need for developing an e-module on product photography based on Project-Based Learning (PjBL) to enhance digitalpreneurship competence. Research Method – A qualitative approach was used, employing triangulation through interviews, questionnaires, and observations involving 20 trainees and 2 facilitators. Research Findings – The results show that 90% of participants expressed the need for digital teaching materials, while 95% preferred a project-based learning model. These findings indicate a strong demand for modern, contextual, and engaging learning resources that support practical skill development. Research Conclusion – The PjBL-based e-module is a promising solution to address contemporary learning challenges. It promotes flexibility, contextual understanding, learner autonomy, and practical competence in product photography. Research Novelty/Contribution – This study provides empirical insights into learner-centered instructional design for MSME training programs. It highlights the importance of aligning learning models with digital industry demands and supports innovation in digitalpreneurship education.
