Abstract

This qualitative exploratory research investigates reverse culture shock experienced by semester-long exchange students, focusing on Indonesian students who joined the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards program at Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations of four students. Findings revealed participants struggled to readjust to life in Indonesia, as everything felt different from the structured, punctual lifestyle they experienced in Japan. They found aspects like traffic, public services, and social interactions more relaxed and less organized, which felt strange and frustrating after living in a more individualistic and efficient culture. The anticipated challenges of returning manifested in feelings of alienation, loneliness, loss, anomie, unhappiness, withdrawal, depression, and minor physical illness, typically lasting two to three months. Participants were aware of the potential for this phenomenon before returning. Several coping strategies were identified, including a strong desire to return to Japan. This study contributes to the limited discourse on reverse culture shock in qualitative research, especially among short-term exchange students. It highlights the importance of raising awareness and preparing students for re-entry challenges. Home universities are encouraged to provide better post-exchange support systems to ease the transition and help students reintegrate successfully.

Abstract

According to a survey by the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) in 2018, around 50.9% of nurses in Indonesia experience work stress. This study aims to identify factors that cause work stress in nurses based on the Expanded Nursing Stress Scale (ENSS), which consists of nine subscales: Death and Dying, Conflict with Doctors, Insufficient Preparation, Problems with Coworkers, Problems with Supervisors, Uncertainty of Treatment, Problems with Patients, Workload, and Discrimination. This study used a cross-sectional study design with a total sample of 76 nurses, Data analysis used PLS-SEM and bootstrapping methods. The results showed that the three main constructs contributing to the highest job stress were Problems with Supervisors (β = 0.224; p = 0.000), Workload (β = 0.211; p = 0.000), and Treatment Uncertainty (β = 0.201; p = 0.000), while Discrimination showed no significant effect (p = 0.232). Problems with Supervisors, Workload, and Treatment Uncertainty are the causes of job stress in nurses at X Hospital, Boyolali in 2024

Abstract

Hygienic food processing facilities are essential to prevent the risk of disease transmission through food consumption. In Wanareja Village, the working area of Wanareja 1 Community Health Center in 2022, there were 34 food processing facilities, of which only 61.8% met sanitation standards. Field observations revealed that some food establishments neglected sanitation facilities, while personal hygiene among food handlers was often overlooked. This study employed a quantitative approach to examine the role of sanitation facilities and personal hygiene among food handlers in achieving hygiene and sanitation standards at food stalls in Wanareja, Cilacap District. The population in this study consisted of 24 food stalls and 42 food handlers. The sample for food stalls was taken using total sampling namely 24 food stalls, while the number of food handlers was determined using the slovin formula, namely 24 food handlers. Data analysis was performed using the Fisher Exact test to examine the relationship between variables. The results of the Fisher Exact test showed a significant role between food stall sanitation facilities and food stall hygiene and sanitation standards (p = 0.012; α = 0.05). Conversely, no significant role was found between food handler personal hygiene and the achievement of food stall hygiene and sanitation standards (p = 1.000; α = 0.05). These findings indicate that sanitation facilities play an important role in determining the hygiene standards of food stalls, while the personal hygiene of food handlers in this context does not have a significant influence. Therefore, efforts to improve sanitation facilities should be a top priority in improving hygiene and health standards at food processing sites in Wanareja Village.

Abstract

The use of disinfectants to clean floors in hospital patient care areas is an effort carried out routinely to ensure environmental quality meets predetermined requirements. Floor cleaning for the period July-December 2023 in the Emergency Room (IGD) of the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) "Pandega" Pangandaran Regency using MiLL 21 disinfectant with a composition of 1 part MiLL 21 liquid to 50 parts water (product standard), the results are floor germ numbers amounting to 20 cfu/cm2, does not meet the floor germ standard based on the Republic of Indonesia Minister of Health Regulation Number 7 of 2019 of 0-5 cfu/cm2. Therefore, it is necessary to experiment using the concentration of MiLL 21 solution to obtain a more effective concentration level as a germ killer. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the concentration of floor cleaning solutions on achieving germ density quality standards on the floors of the Emergency Room (IGD) of the Regional General Hospital (RSUD) "Pandega" Pangandaran Regency, West Java Province. The type of research used was an experiment with a completely randomized design for each treatment, the population was a floor area of 200 m2 and the sample was 33 m2 taken using random sampling techniques. The results show that variations in MiLL 21 concentration of 5% are effective in achieving the quality standard limit for floor germ density with sig 0.000>0.05 (α). Suggestions for those responsible for cleaning floors to use variations in the concentration of MiLL 21 floor cleaning solution, at least in a ratio of 1 part solution to 20 parts water, to effectively achieve the specified floor germ density quality standards.

Abstract

The implementation of double immunization requires good communication and support from all parties, including the target families as the main subjects. However, many factors influence its success, such as mothers feeling afraid of side effects after immunization, which causes anxiety. Health workers have taken many approaches to reduce mothers' anxiety levels individually, including through guidance and counseling methods with a behavioral approach. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the guidance and counseling method in reducing family anxiety regarding the implementation of double immunization in the working area of the Cijulang Health Center, Pangandaran District, West Java Province. The type of research used is an experiment involving an intervention to convey messages about double immunization through individual guidance and counseling methods to mothers of infants targeted for double immunization in two stages. The first stage involved measuring the level of family anxiety before the intervention with the guidance and counseling method, and the second stage involved remeasuring the level of family anxiety. The results were analyzed by comparing anxiety levels before and after the intervention. The study population consisted of 309 families. Using the Slovin calculation technique, a sample size of 76 families was determined, distributed proportionally across 7 villages. The results of the study indicate that the guidance and counseling method is effective in reducing family anxiety regarding the implementation of double immunization in the working area of the Cijulang Health Center, Pangandaran District, West Java Province, with a Z-value of 2850.00 and an Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) value of 0.00.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition where the hemoglobin level or red blood cell count is below normal, which varies depending on the age and condition of the individual. Its prevalence is high in developing countries, including Indonesia, especially in adolescent girls. Iron deficiency is one of the main factors. Adolescent girls who are anemic are at greater risk of developing anemia during pregnancy, which can interfere with fetal growth and increase the risk of delivery complications. Education through health promotion media is needed to improve knowledge, including through videos and lectures. Videos present information in an interesting audiovisual manner, while lectures convey information orally directly to the audience. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of video and lecture media on increasing knowledge about anemia in female students of SMPN 19 Tasikmalaya City. The method used was true experiment with pretest-posttest design with control group. The sample amounted to 64 students, divided into two groups: video media (32 students) and lectures (32 students). Statistical test results showed a significance value of 0.041 in the video group and 0.000 in the lecture group (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that both are effective in increasing knowledge, but lecture media is more effective than video.

Abstract

The study was conducted in the Food and Nutrition Laboratory, Delta State University, using an experimental research design to develop and evaluate cakes from wheat, cocoyam, plantain, and bambara nut composite flours at varying substitution ratios. A total population of 185 staff and students formed the study group, while 15 purposively selected judges (7 staff, 8 students) assessed the cakes. Data were collected using a 9-point Hedonic scale for sensory evaluation and a 5-point scale for shelf-life monitoring. Validity was ensured by expert review, and reliability yielded coefficients of 0.81 and 0.88. Nutritional composition, sensory attributes, and shelf life were analyzed using AOAC methods and ANOVA (p≤0.05). Results showed that composite cakes contained significantly higher (p≤0.05) levels of essential vitamins and minerals compared to the control. The vitamin and mineral composition of composite cakes showed clear improvements over 100% wheat flour (WF). Vitamin A ranged from (0.987–1.983 mg/100g), highest in WCPB3 (1.983) and lowest in WF (0.987). Vitamin B1 varied (0.235–0.487 mg/100g), with WCPB4 highest (0.487) and WF lowest (0.235). Vitamin B12 ranged (0.011–0.017 mg/100g), peaking in WCPB5 (0.017) and lowest in WF (0.011). For minerals, calcium ranged (34.225–67.928 mg/100g), iron (2.884–3.971), magnesium (16.285–20.676), phosphorus (60.730–74.066), and zinc (1.571–1.918). Composite samples, especially WCPB5 and WCPB6, consistently outperformed WF, showing significant (p≤0.05) nutritional enhancement. The findings highlight the potential of cocoyam, plantain, and bambara nut as viable alternatives for fortifying baked products, thereby contributing to improved nutrition, food security, and reduced dependence on imported wheat flour
