It is hoped that the message will be useful to anyone currently living in a household or who will live in one. This research is a descriptive qualitative study. The data source for this study is the lyrics of the song al-Maḥkamaḥ by Kāẓim al-Sāhir, obtained directly from the YouTube account @rotanamusic. In collecting data, the listening and note-taking technique was used, with the following steps: listening to and understanding the song, noting the lyrics, identifying the data, and classifying the data. Meanwhile, in analyzing the data, there are several stages: reading, determining the type of illocutionary speech act, describing the illocutionary speech act in the lyrics of the song al-Maḥkamaḥ by Kāẓim al-Sāhir, revealing the message behind the lyrics, and concluding the analysis. In the song al-Maḥkamaḥ by Kāẓim al-Sāhir, 43 illocutionary speech acts were found, 5 of which were assertive illocutionary speech acts. In this study, 9 imperative, 8 commissive, 13 expressive, and 8 declarative speech acts were also identified. In previous studies, there has been no in-depth examination of the song's message. In this study, it can also be concluded that the main message for listeners of this song is caution in choosing a life partner.

Abstract

This research is a syntactic study in a children's storybook titled Kisah Petualangan Seru Kancil dan Teman-temannya (The Exciting Adventure Story of the Mouse Deer and His Friends). The aim of this research is to analyze the functions, categories, and syntactic roles in simple sentences found in the narrative of the children's book. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method with a syntactic approach, involving 21 simple sentences found in the storybook, which were classified based on the sentence structure patterns of Subject-Predicate-Object (SPO), Subject-Predicate-Adverbial (SPA), and Subject-Predicate-Object-Adverbial (SPOA). The analysis results show that these patterns reflect a simple structure that is effective in conveying the story to children. The functions, categories, and syntactic roles in each sentence also reflect consistency in the use of simple sentence patterns that are easy for children to understand through the children's storybook.

Abstract

This study explores the use of Indonesian and English among Alpha generations which focuses on two children namely El Barack Alexander and Dia Sekala Bumi. These children, attending international primary schools, have been exposed to English from an early age. This study aims to understand their proficiency in both languages and how they apply both of them. This study analyzes the children's utterances from YouTube and TikTok videos to assess their language proficiency and code-switching behavior based on the sociolinguistics and bilingualism theories. The findings reveal that both children demonstrate fluent bilingualism with natural code-switching and a diverse vocabulary in both languages. Their bilingual abilities are influenced by their family, school environment, and exposure to digital media. The study highlights the growing trend of bilingualism among Alpha generations and its implications for language development and communication. El Barack and Sekala's language use provides valuable insights into the developing linguistic scope of Alpha generation. This study underlines the importance of bilingualism in a globalized world and its impact on cognitive and social development.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the similarities in form and meaning of family member terms in Javanese, Madurese, and Balinese as Austronesian languages. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a historical-comparative linguistic approach. Data were obtained through a literature study of dictionaries and relevant scientific sources, then analyzed using the principle of regular sound correspondence to identify cognate forms and phonological innovations that occurred. The results show that lexical terms of address such as bapa, adi, and nini have forms and meanings that are consistent with Proto-Austronesian forms. Balinese tends to be the most conservative in retaining proto forms, Javanese shows minor innovations through vowel changes and speech level systems, while Madurese has undergone phonological changes, including the emergence of glottal stops and aspirated consonants. Semantically, all three languages retain the basic meanings that represent core kinship relationships, albeit with their own variations.

Abstract

This study examines the production of gender pronouns as a form of cultural production in Elliot Page’s Instagram coming‑out post published on December 2, 2020, in which he publicly identifies as transgender and adopts the pronouns he/they. Situated within the broader context of digital media and gender discourse, this research aims to understand how language practices related to gender identity are produced, represented, and circulated in contemporary social media spaces. Employing a qualitative approach, the study analyzes both linguistic choices and visual elements present in the Instagram post, alongside selected audience responses in the comment section. Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of cultural production provides the main analytical framework, particularly through the concepts of habits, cultural capital, social capital, and arena. The findings suggest that Page’s position as a well‑known public figure enables the strategic use of pronouns he/they as a symbolic practice supported by significant cultural and social capital. Audience reactions demonstrate a process of symbolic negotiation marked by affirmation, solidarity, and resistance, reflecting broader tensions surrounding gender norms and identity recognition. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how gender identity is constructed and contested in the digital era and emphasizes social media’s role as an influential arena for cultural production and symbolic power.
