Abstract

This study explores the impact of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tools on enhancing speaking fluency among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students in Labuhanbatu Utara, Indonesia. Utilizing applications such as ELSA Speak and Google Speech-to-Text, the research implemented a classroom-based intervention involving 30 senior high school students over eight weeks. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining pre- and post-tests, classroom observations, and interviews with both students and teachers. The results revealed significant improvements in students’ fluency, pronunciation accuracy, and speaking confidence. Additionally, the AI tools fostered greater learner autonomy, increased motivation, and encouraged active classroom participation. Despite certain challenges related to infrastructure and digital accessibility, the overall findings suggest that AI technologies can effectively support and enrich speaking instruction in EFL settings, particularly in rural or under-resourced contexts. The study offers practical insights for educators aiming to enhance oral proficiency through technology-enhanced language learning.

Abstract

This study explores the process of optimizing curriculum management as a strategy to improve student learning outcomes at MTS Al-Amin Kampung Pajak. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, focus group discussions, and document analysis involving school leaders, teachers, students, and curriculum-related documents. The findings indicate that while the school has implemented curriculum planning and execution in alignment with national standards, the process often remains administrative and lacks innovative teaching strategies. Teachers face challenges in implementing student-centered learning due to limited training, insufficient resources, and a lack of continuous professional development. Additionally, assessment practices tend to focus on summative evaluation, with minimal use of formative feedback to support student progress. Nevertheless, the study reveals strong leadership commitment and student motivation, particularly in religious subjects, which provides a foundation for curriculum enhancement. The study concludes that optimizing curriculum management requires a holistic approach, including teacher empowerment, participatory planning, data-driven evaluation, and the integration of Islamic values across subjects to create a more engaging and effective learning environment.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of local wisdom-based character education on student behavior at SD Pusaka Deliserdang. The research was conducted to address the growing need for culturally relevant approaches in moral education, especially in elementary school settings. Utilizing a mixed-method design, the study combined quantitative analysis of pre-test and post-test behavior scores with qualitative data from interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that the integration of local wisdom—such as traditional stories, sayings, and communal values—into character education significantly improved students’ behavior in key areas including responsibility, cooperation, discipline, respect, and honesty. Quantitative results showed a marked increase in behavior scores after a 12-week intervention, with statistically significant gains across all measured indicators. Qualitative data further supported these findings, highlighting how students internalized moral values more effectively when presented through culturally familiar narratives and examples. The study also found that teacher creativity, community involvement, and student engagement played crucial roles in the success of the program. Despite challenges in sourcing appropriate cultural materials and ensuring inclusivity, the overall impact was positive and transformative. This research underscores the importance of contextualizing moral education within students’ cultural environments and provides a model for other schools seeking to implement similar initiatives.

Abstract

This study investigates the code-switching practices of bilingual teachers at MAN 1 Labuhanbatu Utara and explores the pedagogical functions and implications of language alternation in an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classroom. Through classroom observations, teacher interviews, and student feedback, the research reveals that code-switching is used strategically to support instruction, enhance student comprehension, manage classroom behavior, and build social rapport. The types of code-switching identified include intra-sentential, inter-sentential, and tag-switching, with intra-sentential being the most frequently used. Findings suggest that while most students benefit from code-switching, a careful balance is needed to ensure sufficient exposure to the target language. This study concludes that code-switching, when used intentionally and judiciously, can be a valuable pedagogical tool in bilingual education. It recommends ongoing professional development to help teachers use code-switching effectively and support learners’ language acquisition.
