Abstract

Acupuncture is a traditional treatment from China with historical roots going back centuries. It uses the method of fine needles inserted into the skin at acupoints located along the body's meridians. The main concepts that govern this treatment are Yin and Yang, as well as the flow of vital energy known as Qi. The acupuncture treatment method was first discovered in China in ancient times and has been continuously developed. Today, acupuncture has become one of the standard therapies in China, along with herbs and massage techniques. Acupuncture treatment has preventive and curative purposes and is considered more economical and practical in the healthcare system. The concept of Yin and Yang is essential in acupuncture treatment. It reflects the balance and duality of the human body and nature. Acupuncture points are considered to have Yin or Yang properties, and needles on these points aim to restore the balance of energy in the body. In addition, acupuncture treatment also aims to optimize the flow of Qi, the vital energy that flows throughout the body. When the flow of Qi is obstructed or unbalanced, this can lead to health problems. Acupuncture today is still beneficial as an adjunctive treatment method for pain, primarily when conventional medicine does not provide adequate results. This research aims to analyze how Qi, Yin, and Yang affect the healing process in the human body. In this research, the literature study method is used to explore Qi, Yin, and Yang in the context of acupuncture treatment. The results of this research help us better understand how the concepts of Yin, Yang, and Qi are applied in acupuncture treatment and how they work in the human body.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of confusing vocabulary among Indonesian Chinese learners in the process of learning Chinese vocabulary. Through testing and analysis of homographs, homophones, near-synonyms, and words with different lexical features, it was found that the confusion rates for homographs and homophones are relatively high, while there is also considerable confusion with near-synonyms and words with different lexical features. The research results indicate that the main causes of the confusion phenomenon among Indonesian learners include negative transfer from their native language, different collocation habits, unclear semantic differences, and unclear lexical features. In response to these issues, the study proposes strengthening vocabulary teaching, providing more context, enhancing collocation training, and increasing explanations of lexical features to help improve the effectiveness of Chinese language teaching.

Abstract

Today advances in technology and human intelligence have made many countries flock to increase their soft power in the international arena. The Chinese government is no exception, actively trying to increase soft power through various programs. One of these efforts can be seen with the establishment of the Confucius Institute. China founded the Confucius Institute to promote Chinese language and culture abroad. These efforts include spreading the Mandarin language, holding cultural exhibitions, and collaborating academically with various countries. This research aims to analyze the Confucius Institute's role in increasing China's soft power. This research uses a qualitative approach by collecting and evaluating data through supporting literature, including academic journal articles and investing news. The Confucius Institute effectively increases the general public's understanding of China. However, there are concerns that Confucius Institutes exist to influence the political views and foreign policies of host countries. Overall, the Confucius Institute is essential to China’s cultural diplomacy efforts, but its approach must maintain a balance between cultural promotion and sensitivity to host country contexts.

Abstract

This paper systematically reviews 19 published papers on Tongshan dialect from 1979 to 2021, offering a comprehensive evaluation from multiple dimensions, including the publication timeline, key authors and institutions, research themes and hot topics, academic context and trends, existing issues, and prospects. The study finds that Tongshan dialect research has undergone a profound transformation from initial descriptions as part of regional dialects to becoming an independent and finely studied subject. Its research focus remains firmly grounded in historical phonology, with abundant achievements in phonetic description and historical evolution analysis. Grammar studies concentrate on distinctive sentence structures, while lexical and pragmatic research remains relatively underdeveloped. Future research should seek breakthroughs in expanding geographical coverage, deepening theoretical applications, conducting comparative studies that integrate synchronic and diachronic approaches, strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhancing language resource preservation, thereby advancing the field toward more comprehensive, systematic, and in-depth development.

Abstract

Attributives are sentence components that are frequently used in Chinese, and the word order of multiple attributives constitutes an essential part of Chinese grammar as well as a major source of difficulty for learners of Chinese as a second language. Due to its structural complexity, the correct arrangement of multiple attributives poses significant challenges for non-native speakers. Although learners are introduced to attributives through formal instruction, many remain unfamiliar with the rules governing multiple attributive order. This study investigates the mastery of multiple attributive word order in Chinese among the 2022 cohort students of Gongtong Hope Language Institute and explores the factors influencing their performance. Drawing on previous theoretical studies on the relationships among multiple attributives, this research adopts a mixed-method approach, with data collected through test papers and questionnaires. The research procedure involved administering tests and questionnaires, followed by descriptive statistical analysis of test results and qualitative analysis of questionnaire responses to examine students’ mastery from three structural types: coordinate multiple attributives, successive multiple attributives, and interlaced multiple attributives. A total of 122 valid test papers and questionnaires were analyzed, and the results show that the students’ overall mastery of multiple attributive word order in Chinese reached only 51.37%, indicating that most students have not fully mastered this grammatical structure. The findings further reveal that learners’ difficulties are influenced by factors such as negative transfer from their mother tongue, textbook design, and learning motivation, which frequently lead to errors in attributive ordering, highlighting the importance of this study for improving the teaching of multiple attributives and providing pedagogical implications for more systematic instruction and targeted practice in Chinese language education.

Abstract

Guided by translanguaging, this study explores the linguistic landscape in Quanzhou and its implications for international Chinese education. The findings indicate that Quanzhou’s linguistic landscape is dominated by Chinese-English bilingualism, while also featuring a variety of minority languages, reflecting the city’s internationalization and cultural inclusiveness. In terms of presentation forms, purely linguistic modes and language-plus-image modes are roughly balanced, with equivalent design strategies occupying an absolute dominant position, ensuring clear communication of information. Functionally, the linguistic landscape is primarily driven by commercial advertising, while also serving purposes such as direction and public services, as well as cultural dissemination. Through a systematic analysis of these characteristics, this study not only provides a new empirical case for the study of linguistic landscapes in Chinese cities, deepening theoretical understanding, but also transforms abstract linguistic findings into concrete teaching strategies and curriculum suggestions. It offers significant practical insights for international Chinese educators to optimize teaching content and methods, thereby enhancing the practicality and effectiveness of instruction.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study aims to identify the difficulties in listening to shengdiao (tone) in words and phrases experienced by ninth-grade students at MTs An-Nuriyah Bontocini, Jeneponto Regency. The sample consisted of 20 students selected through purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through listening tests and questionnaires. The research results show that students have difficulty distinguishing tones in Mandarin, especially the fourth tone. There are two main factors that influence these difficulties. Internal factors include limited understanding of the tonal system, lack of self-confidence, and ineffective learning strategies. External factors include the quality of learning media, the teacher's teaching methods, and the classroom environment. Some students stated that the audio used was unclear, and the learning process needs to be improved through more consistent practice and the use of more interactive media.
