Abstract

This study analyzes the socio-political and economic frameworks that influence the visibility, advancement, and incorporation of LGBTQ+ communities in Thailand. The qualitative examination of secondary data indicates that Thailand's capitalist change over the last forty years, especially in Bangkok, has facilitated the selective visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals which predominantly rich, urban homosexual men, within consumer-centric paradigms. Institutional support, exemplified by policies such as the Gender Equality Act and the proposed Life Partnership Law, has afforded legal legitimacy; yet, it remains inconsistent and inadequate in practice. Thai government's involvement seems to be more influenced by elite interests and foreign factors than by grassroots lobbying within the country. Civilian actors such as activists, students, and NGOs, have emerged as crucial agents in advocating for reform and promoting inclusive discourse. Nonetheless, class gaps persist in influencing whose opinions are acknowledged and safeguarded. The report asserts that substantial LGBTQ+ inclusion in Thailand must address the intertwined economic and political obstacles, rather than solely commemorate symbolic advancements. This study underscores the pressing necessity for early social awareness in addressing LGBTQ+ that threaten fundamental national values. In the absence of such supervision, these dynamics may become structurally entrenched and affect political authority at the highest echelons.

Abstract

High school (SMA) is not only a forum for imparting knowledge but also a platform for students to develop soft and hard skills through organizational membership and activities. Organizations can provide a platform for students to develop non-academic abilities. The purpose of this study was to examine the role of Intra-School Student Organization membership in friendships in high school. The method used in this study was a literature review using Publish or Perish. 200 articles were obtained from Google Scholar, then 20 articles were sorted by title. The results of the literature review indicate that the Student Council (OSIS) plays a role in student friendships in high school. Through organizational activities such as deliberation meetings, leadership training, and collaborative project work, students' social skills can be involved and developed, forming stronger bonds within friendships. The OSIS is not only a forum for student character development but also a social catalyst, serving to expand relationships and strengthen the quality of student friendships.

Abstract

Riba is a practice that is strictly prohibited in Islam due to its inherent elements of injustice and economic exploitation. In the context of the modern financial system, riba is often embedded in various financial instruments such as bank interest, consumer credit, and other financing products, which has led to ongoing debates among scholars and practitioners of Islamic finance. This study aims to analyze the concept of riba within the modern financial system from the perspective of fiqh muamalah. The research employs a literature review method by examining primary and secondary sources, including the Qur’an, Hadith, classical and contemporary fiqh muamalah literature, fatwas issued by the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI), as well as relevant academic books and journal articles. The findings indicate that, in principle, riba in modern financial practices shares the same legal cause (‘illat) as the riba prohibited in fiqh muamalah, namely the existence of predetermined additional returns without proportional risk or productive effort. However, differences in scholarly opinions persist regarding the application and boundaries of riba in modern financial products due to the complexity of today’s economic system. Therefore, strengthening the understanding of fiqh muamalah and developing Islamic financial systems are essential to provide fair, transparent, and Sharia-compliant alternatives.
