Abstract

Protestantism is considered a movement for the desacralization of Christianity which tends to prioritize doctrinal knowledge over spiritual experience. In fact, the Protestant Christian movement is seen as the fruit of the Enlightenment era. In fact, the aspect of affection or feeling does not have a place in this tradition, let alone spirituality and mysticism. The term 'mysticism' is even considered something evil. However, history seems to be filled with church mystics, some of whom influenced the thinking of the reformers. Those who understand the theology of mystical love are recorded as having a very deep experience of faith with God. This article seeks to provide a critical appreciation of the mysticism of love in church history and how this understanding contributes to the spirituality of Christians today. The method used is literature study, involving primary and secondary sources. The results show that some of the thoughts of the mystics of love can be applied today in the Protestant tradition, including Evangelicalism, and some cannot.

Abstract

The prolonged conflict between Israel and Palestine has made statements by countries on it. Muslim-majority countries tend to support Palestine. On the other hand, Christian-majority countries will support Israel. This research seeks to find answers about how the church should expect this conflict. By using qualitative literature study methods, a single conclusion was produced that the church should be neutral in this conflict. The church's primary calling is not to get involved in the political feud between Israel and Palestine. Four main reasons why the church should be neutral about this conflict. First, Contemporary Israel is different from Israel in the OT in that they still reject Jesus Christ as the Messiah to this day. Second, there are often misinterpretations of Genesis 12:3, especially in terms of sending or cursing Israel and the blessings that accompany it. Third, righteousness elevates the status of the nation, but sin is a stain on the nation. Defending Israel or Palestine does not make the church full of God's blessings. Fourth, God really loves the nations. just as God loves Israel, so He loves Palestine. Praying for Israeli-Palestinian peace is the right step in accordance with God's heart.

Abstract

The virtue of humility, as espoused by both Old Testament prophets and Jesus in the New Testament, is not merely a commendable personal quality; rather, it can be experienced as a profound spiritual state. St. Isaac the Syrian articulates three key concepts of humility that elucidate its connection to spiritual experience, which are applicable to both laypersons and church leaders. Firstly, humility enables the individual to be adopted by God as His child, thereby suggesting that humans, through humility, can participate in the divine nature when united with God in eternity. Secondly, humility functions as a conduit for the perfection of the soul. Those who achieve spiritual perfection do so through the virtue of humility, which shapes their attitude towards worldly pleasures and desires, aligning them more closely with the love of God and the pursuit of eternal values. Finally, humility is a crucial element in the process of repentance. Genuine repentance, characterised by the acknowledgement and remorse of one's sins, is grounded in humility. This humility cultivates a profound sense of gratitude for God's grace and mercy, enabling individuals to recognise their vulnerabilities and seek divine guidance. Consequently, humility not only facilitates personal spiritual growth but also reinforces one's relationship with God.

Abstract

In this modern era, children's spirituality is often neglected in the education and childcare system. In an increasingly secular society, religious and spiritual values are often considered irrelevant to the challenges of the times. Calvin, through his various writings, emphasized the importance of understanding children as God's precious creation, as well as individuals who need guidance in the faith. This article aims to prove that Calvin had views on children's spirituality that could be linked to Christian education. Through the literature study method, there are several important findings. First, Calvin had a clear view of the spiritual condition of children based on the doctrine of original sin which could only be resolved through Christ. Second, Calvin views children's spirituality as important, as a personal relationship with God and learning Biblical teachings that shape daily thought patterns and behavior. Third, Calvin's thoughts contributed to Christian educational institutions thinking about a curriculum that includes the practice of reading the Bible, introducing doctrine and disciplining children.

Abstract

The use of social media in the context of ministry and community building has brought complex impacts, with the potential to expand outreach and strengthen relationships between members. While social media can serve as an effective tool for disseminating religious beliefs and practices, it also presents ethical challenges that need to be addressed so that fundamental religious values are not compromised. This article explores the duality of social media as a tool in religious interaction, where it can change the way individuals relate to their faith and give rise to theological debates regarding the nature of digital presence in spiritual life. As such, it is important for communities to critically assess the use of social media in order to remain aligned with authentic religious principles. This study aims to understand the right attitude in responding to technological advancements in order to use social media as an auxiliary tool to create a theologically-savvy and ethical community in line with the truth of God's Word.
