Abstract

This study explores the application of values from Genesis 2:8-17 as a foundation for responsible character education at Kartika Junior High School, Surabaya. Using a qualitative descriptive-explorative approach, the research involved 15 Christian students, Christian education teachers, and parents for data triangulation. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings show that integrating biblical values enhances students’ responsibility, discipline, and spiritual awareness. Genesis 2:8-17 encourages students to be accountable to God, others, and the environment. Collaboration between teachers and parents strengthens holistic character development. This study highlights the importance of integrating spiritual values into character education and fills a research gap in contextual applications of Genesis in junior high school learning. It offers a practical model for biblical values integration involving active roles from both school and family in shaping students' character and spirituality in a holistic manner.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of the biblical passage 1 Samuel 25:23–28 in addressing and resolving conflicts in Nigeria. The study identifies several key conflict resolution strategies from Abigail’s actions, including humility, strategic communication, proactive peacemaking, and the appeal to higher principles. These strategies are found to be relevant and potentially effective in addressing conflicts in Nigeria, particularly in contexts marked by ethnic, religious, and political tensions. Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, is a country rich in cultural diversity, natural resources, and economic potential. However, it has been beset by numerous conflicts over the years, ranging from ethnic and religious violence to political instability and resource-based disputes. The aphorism in I Samuel 25:23–28 is important in understanding the underlying causes and dynamics of these conflicts, and it is essential for developing effective resolution strategies. Data is gathered from biblical commentaries, theological texts, and scholarly articles. Emerged themes are: i) respect and humility; ii) taking responsibility and mediation; iii) acknowledging wrongdoing and deflecting blame; iv) appealing to higher principles; v) offering reparation and tangible solutions; and vi) seeking forgiveness and affirming positive outcomes. These strategies are found to be relevant and potentially effective in addressing conflicts in Nigeria, particularly in contexts marked by ethnic, religious, and political tensions. Abigail's approach, characterised by humility, tact, and moral persuasion, can serve as a model for contemporary peacemakers.

Abstract

The life of a believer is characterized by a willingness to suffer for Christ, where adversity quotient (AQ), the intelligence to endure hardship, plays a crucial role in sustaining faith under pressure. This study aims to explore the implications of the Apostle Paul’s theology of suffering for the development of AQ among believers. Employing a descriptive qualitative method through literature review, the research examines Paul's theology of suffering and its relevance to AQ. The findings reveal that Paul’s ability to endure suffering was rooted in his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, which significantly strengthened his AQ. The study concludes that understanding Paul's theology of suffering provides a solid foundation for developing spiritual and emotional resilience in believers. This research is expected to enhance both theological insight and practical application for enduring and growing through life’s adversities

Abstract

This research aims to explore the changing meaning of the copper snake from a symbol of salvific solution to a delusional object of idolatry. There is a gap in research because it was found that some previous studies only discussed historical, mythological, and cultural aspects without exploring the theological and implicative depth of the text. Based on the biblical hermeneutic method, this study produces three important findings: (1) God-given symbols of salvation can turn into idols if they lose their theological meaning; (2) True faith must be directed to God, not to religious means or traditions; (3) Spiritual reformation requires Hezekiah-like courage to destroy deviations for the sake of purifying faith. This study focuses on the relationship between faith and worship of the Israelites, and its relevance to the lives of believers today who often turn from true worship to modern forms of idols.

Abstract

This article aims to elucidate the principles and approaches of hermeneutics within the Eastern Orthodox Church tradition through a library research method that examines the documents and literature of the Eastern Orthodox Church. The hermeneutical method of the Eastern Orthodox Church emphasizes communal interpretation, the unity of Holy Scripture with Holy Tradition, the role of the Holy Spirit in interpretation, the continuity of apostolic succession, and an orientation toward the spiritual transformation of the faithful. The approaches employed include the Christological-Pneumatological, ecclesiological and patristic, literal, allegorical-typological, ethical, moral and spiritual, ascetic, as well as liturgical and iconographic approaches. Collectively, these approaches demonstrate that Eastern Orthodox hermeneutics is inseparable from the life of the Church and aims to lead the faithful toward theosis, the union with God. This article affirms that, in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Holy Scripture is understood holistically as the living Word, interpreted in the light of the Church’s faith, and lived out in the spiritual life of the faithful.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the theology of worship in the Book of Psalms by emphasizing the relationship between God and the people from a holistic perspective of worship. This research uses a qualitative-descriptive approach through a literature review with a hermeneutical analysis of the Psalms and Old Testament theological literature. The results show that worship in the Book of Psalms is not only centered on praise and thanksgiving, but also encompasses lamentation, trust, obedience, and the ethical dimensions of the people's lives. Lexical analysis of Hebrew terms such as שָׁכַח (shachah),עֲבָד (ʿabad), הָלַל (halal), יָדָה (yadah), זָמַר (zamar), and בָּרַךְ (barak) demonstrates that worship is holistic, involving physical, verbal, musical, and relational aspects. Furthermore, the concept of covenant (berît) and God's ḥesed is the primary foundation of God's relationship with His people. Research findings confirm that the psalms of lament hold a fundamental place in the theology of worship because they maintain the people's relationship with God amidst suffering.

Abstract

This study reformulates a reinterpretation of Exodus 28 as the foundation for the pulpit dressing ethics of ministers facing the era of disruption. Previous research leaves a significant gap, focusing primarily on spiritual leadership or general textual reception without providing a practical framework for contemporary ministerial attire. Employing a qualitative library research method, this study integrates a Hebrew exegetical analysis of Exodus 28, a literature review on disruption-era dressing phenomena, and a hermeneutical reinterpretation distinguishing between form and theological function. The findings reveal three universal theological principles within Exodus 28: holiness as separation from the profane, representation in bearing the people, and covering nakedness as respect for the ministry calling. Ultimately, this study contributes to practical theology and biblical studies by establishing an ethical framework that balances personal freedom of expression with theological responsibility. It serves as a concrete guide for training prospective ministers, fostering critical-theological awareness in choosing ministry attire amid modern challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Ecclesiastes 3:1–15 as a structural theological critique against the labor system and capitalistic lifestyle of modern society. This qualitative research applies an interdisciplinary hermeneutical approach. The analytical procedure is carried out systematically through four operational stages: textual-philological exegesis of the Masoretic text, theological contextualization (Fides Quaerens Intellectum), integration of social theology, and dialectical synthesis with critical sociology and contemporary philosophy. The findings indicate a fundamental clash between divine temporality, which is cyclic and organic, and capitalistic temporality, which is linear and instrumental. Through the concepts of time (‘et), eternity (‘olam), and justice for the pursued (nirdāp), this ancient text radically deconstructs modern pathologies such as social acceleration, labor alienation, time commodification, and the burnout epidemic institutionalized by neoliberal market structures. This study concludes that the concept of time in Ecclesiastes 3:1–15 functions as a theological-political manifesto that rejects the reduction of human ontological dignity to a mere economic commodity. Consequently, churches, particularly in Indonesia, are called to correct prosperity theology and develop a humanist, prophetic, and transformative social praxis.

Abstract

Contextualization is a critical approach in missiology that ensures the Gospel message remains relevant to local cultures without compromising its core truth. This research examines contextualization as a strategic foundation for mission implementation through both theoretical and practical approaches. By analyzing theological principles, contextualization models, and field case studies particularly within the context of increasingly developing urban societies this study demonstrates that effective contextualization requires a balance between faithfulness to Scripture and sensitivity to socio-cultural contexts. Therefore, the outcome of this entire process affirms that contextualization can no longer be viewed merely as a method or ministry technique. Rather, it has evolved into a transformative mission paradigm that fundamentally reframes the understanding, strategy, and practice of mission itself.

Abstract

Generation Alpha grows up in a highly dynamic digital environment, connected to technology from an early age. While this context offers various opportunities for the development of knowledge and skills, it also presents challenges regarding character formation, self-control, emotional development, and social relationships. Research on parenting Generation Alpha from a theological perspective based on Proverbs 13:24 remains relatively scarce. This study aims to analyze the theological meaning of Proverbs 13:24 and its relevance to parenting Generation Alpha amidst the advancement of digital technology. A qualitative research method was employed, utilizing a literature study approach that included lexical text analysis, an examination of the wisdom literature context, and theological reflection. The findings indicate that the term "rod" in Proverbs 13:24 serves as a symbol of parental authority, guidance, correction, and responsibility in child-rearing, rather than a justification for physical violence. These findings underscore the importance of integrating love, discipline, and wise authority to shape the character, spirituality, and moral responsibility of Generation Alpha.
