Abstract

This study examines the digital transformation of women entrepreneurs in Makassar City with a focus on analyzing opportunities and challenges from a gender perspective. Using a qualitative method with a literature study approach, this study analyzed data from various primary and secondary sources for the period 2019-2024. The results showed a significant increase in the adoption of digital technology among women entrepreneurs from 15% to 52%. The main challenges identified include limited access to capital, digital literacy gaps, and socio-cultural factors. The fashion and craft sectors dominate the digital women entrepreneur landscape (35%), followed by culinary (30%). This study identified four key factors for the success of digital transformation: digital skills, business networks, product innovation, and market access. Women entrepreneurs who successfully adopted digital technology recorded an average increase in income of 35%. This study provides strategic recommendations for the development of gender-responsive policies and empowerment programs to support the digital transformation of women entrepreneurs in Makassar.

Abstract

This phenomenological study explores how cultural values influence purchasing decisions among Bugis-Makassar consumers in traditional markets of Makassar City, Indonesia. The research investigates the impact of two fundamental cultural concepts—siri' (honor) and pacce (empathy/compassion)—on consumer behavior patterns. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 purposively selected participants and field observations in traditional markets. Using Colaizzi's seven-step phenomenological analysis framework, the study identified four primary themes: Honor-Driven Purchasing Decisions, Relationship-Centered Commerce, Community Solidarity in Market Transactions, and Collective Identity Preservation. Findings reveal that cultural values significantly outweigh price considerations in purchasing decisions, with participants prioritizing vendor relationships, community welfare, and cultural identity preservation over economic factors. The study demonstrates that siri' manifests through dignity-centered product selection and respectful bargaining practices, while Pacce influences empathetic purchasing behaviors that support community members. Multi-generational vendor relationships emerged as crucial determinants of consumer choice, creating alternative forms of economic rationality that prioritize social bonds over transactional efficiency. The research contributes to consumer behavior literature by providing empirical evidence of how indigenous value systems create resilient economic practices in traditional market settings. Practical implications include the need for culturally sensitive marketing strategies that respect traditional values and emphasize relationship building over purely transactional approaches.

Abstract

This phenomenological study examines the lived experiences of talent retention strategies within Makassar's local government institutions, exploring how cultural values, organizational climate, and leadership styles influence employee commitment in the Indonesian public sector context. Through in-depth interviews with 15 participants comprising HR managers and employees across various government departments, the research investigates the subjective meanings and experiences that shape talent retention decisions. Using Colaizzi's seven-step phenomenological analysis framework, the study identified five essential themes: Cultural Harmony and Collective Belonging, Leadership Authenticity and Emotional Connection, Professional Growth Within Bureaucratic Constraints, Work-Life Integration and Family Values, and Service Purpose and Community Impact. The findings reveal that talent retention in Makassar's local government is fundamentally shaped by the integration of traditional Bugis-Makassar cultural principles—sipakatau (mutual respect), sipakalebbi (mutual honoring), and sipakainge (mutual remembrance)—with contemporary organizational practices. Participants emphasized the significance of authentic leadership characterized by "kepedulian yang tulus" (genuine care) and meaningful work that contributes directly to community development. The study demonstrates that effective retention strategies must acknowledge employees as whole persons whose professional commitments are inseparable from their cultural identity, family relationships, and community connections. These findings challenge Western-centric talent management models by revealing how culturally-embedded values serve as more powerful retention mechanisms than purely economic incentives. The research contributes to developing culturally-responsive talent management frameworks for Indonesian local governments, emphasizing the need for relationship-centered, purpose-driven approaches that honor local wisdom while addressing contemporary human resource challenges in public sector organizations.

Abstract

The issue of credit, particularly the increasing rate of Non-Performing Loans (NPLs), has become one of the primary challenges in Indonesia’s banking sector. To address this risk, banks apply various risk management strategies to maintain financial stability and prevent more severe losses. This study aims to analyze the risk management strategies implemented by banks in tackling credit problems in Indonesia. Through effective risk management, banks can reduce NPL levels, maintain financial stability, and enhance public trust in the Indonesian banking system. This research was conducted using a qualitative method through literature analysis and secondary data obtained from various credible sources. The primary focus of this study is to examine the steps taken by banks to identify, assess, and control credit risks in order to suppress the growth of Non-Performing Loans (NPLs). Strategies implemented include the application of strict credit assessment systems, diversification of loan portfolios, and the utilization of technology to continuously monitor debtor performance. In addition, credit restructuring policies and the strengthening of corporate governance are also considered effective preventive measures to ensure financial stability.

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the nuanced motivations driving Generation Z in Sulawesi towards green jobs and examines how Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) practices contribute to fostering this critical alignment. Faced with direct environmental challenges and a strong sense of purpose, Gen Z in Sulawesi increasingly seeks careers that offer tangible positive environmental and societal impact beyond financial remuneration. Employing a phenomenological approach, the research gathered in-depth insights through semi-structured interviews with Gen Z individuals engaged in or aspiring to green jobs, and HR practitioners involved in GHRM initiatives across Sulawesi. Findings reveal that Gen Z's motivation is deeply rooted in personal values aligning with ecological stewardship and a desire for meaningful contribution, enhancing their attitude towards green jobs as conceptualized by the Theory of Planned Behavior. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that authentic GHRM practices, including transparent green employer branding and supportive internal environmental initiatives, significantly enhance the attractiveness and perceived behavioral control of green jobs for this demographic. These insights underscore the imperative for organizations in Sulawesi to integrate genuine sustainability efforts into their core HR strategies to effectively attract, engage, and retain the vital green talent essential for the region's sustainable development.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the relationship between financial literacy and cryptocurrency investment decision-making among university students in Makassar, Indonesia. Using interpretive phenomenological analysis, 23 semi-structured interviews were conducted across three major universities to understand how students navigate the intersection of traditional financial knowledge and digital asset investments. The findings reveal four distinct decision-making pathways: impulse-driven decisions influenced by social media, peer-influenced investments, analytical approaches, and cautious observation. Despite 74% of participants demonstrating basic traditional financial literacy, only 35% possessed comprehensive financial planning knowledge, while 83% could articulate blockchain concepts but lacked sophisticated risk assessment skills. Social networks, particularly family attitudes and peer influence, emerged as dominant factors shaping investment behaviors, with 65% learning about cryptocurrencies through peer recommendations. The study reveals that initial investment decisions typically occurred within 24-48 hours of first exposure, driven by fear of missing out (FOMO). These findings suggest that effective financial education must address social influences and emotional factors beyond traditional financial knowledge to support informed cryptocurrency investment decisions among young investors.
