Abstract

Education plays a strategic role in improving the quality of human resources and supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly the goal of quality education. However, challenges to the quality of education in Indonesia remain serious, including in history learning, which is often rote and lacks context. This study aims to examine the use of the regressive approach and living history as history learning strategies in realizing quality education oriented towards the SDGs towards Indonesia Emas 2045. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a library research approach, through analysis of scientific literature, reputable journals, and relevant policy documents. The results of the study indicate that the regressive approach, which begins learning from contemporary issues and moves towards historical exploration of the past, can increase the relevance of history learning and develop students' critical thinking skills. Meanwhile, living history emphasizes direct learning experiences based on local history through observation, interviews, and environmental exploration, thereby fostering historical awareness, national values, and social responsibility. The integration of these two approaches is considered aligned with the principles of sustainable education and the Independent Curriculum because it encourages contextual, reflective, and participatory learning. Thus, the regressive and living history approaches have the potential to be effective pedagogical strategies in supporting the achievement of the SDGs.

Abstract

Contemporary learning is still largely dominated by a knowledge transmission approach that positions learners as passive recipients, resulting in learning processes that are often less meaningful and disconnected from learners’ real-life experiences. This article aims to examine the concept of learning experience within the framework of John Dewey’s constructivist philosophy and its contribution to meaningful learning. This study employs a literature review method with a philosophical–qualitative approach, drawing on John Dewey’s major works and relevant national and international educational journals. Data were analyzed using content analysis and interpretative techniques to examine conceptual consistency, interconnections among ideas, and their relevance to contemporary educational contexts. The findings indicate that learning experience in Dewey’s thought is understood as an active, reflective, and continuous process of reconstructing experience, operating through the principles of continuity and interaction. This concept positions learners as active subjects in the construction of knowledge, while the social environment and contextual settings serve as primary sources of learning. The article underscores the enduring relevance of John Dewey’s philosophy as a foundational framework for the development of experience-based learning in addressing contemporary educational challenges.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penguatan karakter disiplin pada siswa sekolah dasar melalui pembelajaran Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan. Latar belakang studi ini berakar dari kekhawatiran mengenai penurunan moral dan masalah perilaku di kalangan generasi muda yang memerlukan perhatian mendalam melalui pendidikan karakter. Prosedur penelitian yang diterapkan ialah analisis pustaka dengan mempelajari berbagai sumber artikel ilmiah yang relevan. Temuan diskusi menunjukkan bahwa penguatan karakter disiplin dilaksanakan melalui metode teladan dari guru, kebiasaan perilaku positif, integrasi nilai dalam rencana pengajaran, serta penerapan peraturan sekolah secara berkesinambungan. Selain itu, terungkap bahwa kerja sama yang baik antara guru, orang tua, dan lingkungan masyarakat sangat berpengaruh terhadap keberhasilan dalam membangun disiplin pada siswa. Ringkasan dari penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan memiliki peranan penting sebagai alat untuk menanamkan nilai-nilai Pancasila yang pada gilirannya menciptakan siswa yang memiliki karakter, bertanggung jawab, dan mematuhi norma yang berlaku

Abstract

This qualitative case study explores the use of digital games as a medium for vocabulary learning in an Indonesian EFL context. The participant was a male ninth-grade junior high school student who regularly played Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Data were collected over a one-month period through vocabulary pre- and post-tests, questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and gameplay observations. The results indicate a notable improvement in vocabulary achievement, with the student’s score increasing by 26.67%. The learner acquired various game-related lexical items such as defense, jungle, minion, and kill through incidental learning rather than direct instruction. Several learning strategies were identified, including contextual guessing, noticing unfamiliar words, and repeated exposure during gameplay, which were supported by the game’s audiovisual and interactive features. In addition, the participant showed strong intrinsic motivation and low anxiety, suggesting that digital gaming created a positive and engaging learning environment. The study concludes that digital games have high potential as supplementary tools for vocabulary development, particularly outside the formal classroom, by providing meaningful input, natural repetition, and motivational benefits. Therefore, educators are encouraged to consider digital games as alternative learning resources to support vocabulary acquisition in EFL learners.

Abstract

This study examines the bilingual speech development of a three-year-old child, Muhammad Arkan, who grows up in a Malay-dominant household while gradually acquiring Indonesian as his second language. The data were collected through two weeks of naturalistic observation supported by a semi-structured interview with the child’s mother. Findings show a clear dominance of Malay in Arkan’s daily communication, influenced by the linguistic patterns of his family, peers, and wider neighborhood community. Indonesian emerges more slowly and primarily in mother–child interactions, where intentional scaffolding, storytelling, and exposure to children’s media provide meaningful L2 input. Throughout the observation period, Arkan frequently engaged in natural code-switching, combining Malay and Indonesian within single utterances. Rather than indicating linguistic confusion, this pattern reflects his growing communicative flexibility and ability to use both languages strategically depending on context, interlocutor, and purpose. His speech development aligns with key perspectives in early bilingual acquisition, including the role of environmental input (De Houwer, 2009), the influence of meaningful and comprehensible exposure (Krashen, 1982), and the sociocultural nature of language learning (Vygotsky, 1978). The findings highlight how early bilingual development is shaped not only by linguistic exposure but also by emotional connections, daily routines, cultural norms, and the child’s social environment. This case illustrates the importance of acknowledging children’s home languages in early educational settings, as a strong foundation in the first language can support smoother and more confident development of the second language. Overall, the study underscores the value of viewing bilingual children through both linguistic and human-centered lenses, especially as they transition into formal schooling.

Abstract

his article explored the impact of English gaming YouTubers on a 9-year-old Indonesian child’s ability to understand and use English. The subject of this study was the researcher’s younger brother, who demonstrated good listening comprehension and the ability to form simple English sentences, yet showed relatively low achievement in formal English school assessments. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, informal interviews, parental opinions, and document analysis of school reports. The findings indicated that exposure to English gaming content significantly enhanced vocabulary acquisition, listening comprehension, pronunciation awareness, and contextual language use. Factors contributing to this improvement included repeated exposure, visual-audio support, intrinsic motivation, and interactive imitation of YouTuber language. However, the mismatch between informal language learning and formal school assessment methods partly explained the subject’s lower academic performance. Scientific evidence from trusted journals supports that digital media and gaming-based input facilitate second language acquisition in children. This study concluded that English gaming YouTubers play a positive supplementary role in children’s English development when supported by parental guidance.

Abstract

This qualitative case study examined the implementation of Vygotsky's Interactionist View by an English tutor teaching a 10-year-old fifth-grade student from a linguistically enriched family background. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis over four weeks. The study focused on interactive teaching strategies, the student's cognitive-bilingual profile, and the role of social environment in second language acquisition. Findings revealed that the tutor consistently employed student-centered strategies including personal greetings, games, role-play, and scaffolding aligned with interactionist principles. The student, exposed to English since age 5 through media and professor parents, demonstrated cognitive advantages of early bilingualism: enhanced executive function, working memory, and metalinguistic awareness, manifesting in A2-level proficiency and active daily conversation ability. The synergy between interactive teaching, cognitive readiness at age 10, and supportive home environment created optimal learning conditions. Results provide empirical evidence that language acquisition occurs effectively through meaningful social interaction rather than passive memorization. The study contributes to understanding how specific interactive strategies facilitate English development in elementary learners.

Abstract

Performance management for librarians in higher education institutions mustcontinuously adapt to evolving regulatory frameworks and institutionalaccountability demands. Based on an initial needs assessment conducted througha problem identification questionnaire involving 12 respondents, several areasrequiring improvement were identified. These include disparities in understandingthe formulation of Employee Performance Targets (Sasaran Kinerja Pegawai/SKP),clarity of work directives, and the absence of standardized procedures fordocumenting work evidence. This study seeks to optimize performance governancethrough the development of an innovative platform entitled the DigitalPerformance Hub at the Academic Support Unit (UPA) Library of Universitas Jambi.Employing a small-scale action research design, this innovation integrates five keydevelopment components: strengthening peer communication forums, compilingan interactive Librarian Performance Dictionary based on Regulation of theMinister for Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform No. 55 of 2022, establishinga structured digital archive repository, refining daily reporting standards througha review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and providing a dedicatedconsultation channel via Google Sites. The implementation results demonstrate amarked improvement in independence, accountability, and collaborativeengagement in preparing valid and high-quality performance documentation. Userfeedback confirms that the system is highly beneficial, practical, and facilitatesefficient document retrieval, while also offering constructive recommendations forfuture enhancements in data visualization and system integration. This integratedmodel serves as a viable and replicable blueprint for library administrators at otherhigher education institutions aiming to advance toward a more comprehensivedigital transformation.
