Abstract

People always work with using energy especially electricity. Global warming gives big impact to electricity consumption. Lighting and air conditioning is important thing to improve a human comfort inside the building. Architecture and interior design give impact to building’s energy consumption. Many high rise rent office are build at the city. High rise office is a branding for the company to look good. Not all building will use for the company, but share with other. The Office design must be good, comfort and good service and cheap for the rent. Energy consumption for operational cost is important thing to decrease rent cost. The solution to make energy efficient is make new design for interior. Air conditioning and lighting is a big part in energy comsumption. Designer must calculate the energy use to decrease an energy comsumption from AC and lighting. This research will collect all heat data from interior and from outdoor penetration. This research use Sun Path Method to know when the buildings have a biggest heat from sunlight everyday. The use of OTTV method (Overall Thermal Tranfer Value) to check a heat value transfer from the façade material. The result will help the designer to make zoning and will make a building efficient  Keyword: cooling load; energy efficient; lighting load; rental office; zoning

Abstract

Instructional media are useful in assisting students and teachers to accumulate understandings on knowledge. Further, instructional media may serve as learning tool for young teachers prepared to be dispersed on various under-developed areas in Indonesia.  Based on this premise, the authors develop and design an animation on the know-how of teaching basic math for students at under-developed areas of Indonesia. The purpose of instructional media design is to provide illustrative action in teaching basic math with limited educational resources. In the design process, the authors employed combined data of observation, interview, literatures, and field notes to understand social reality of teaching basic math at school with limited available resources. Processed data is compared with learning theory to develop contents of instructional media. It is resulted in a prototype of animation as an instructional media, produced as visual narrative of learning basic math at Papua as a case of targeted area. The animation is one of the series of instructional media contents, others are Indonesian, English, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Arts.  Keywords: animation; basic mathematic; instructional media

Abstract

Tourism in Bali has significant effect to Balinese social aspect.  It can be seen from the Balinese people daily behavior that has changed from traditional society to modern and diverse society.  The conviction to conserve traditional pattern of life and behavior is still exists in the Balinese society and their posterity, but in the other side, tourism development and economical urgency creates difficult situation to conserve the purity of Balinese cultural tradition.  This situations influence Balinese cultural products created nowadays, such as architectural spaces that represent the people within.  The changes occurring in traditional Balinese houses happened mostly in concentrated tourism areas, such as Ubud.  In the government urban development plan, Ubud is selected as one of strategic tourism point of interest that is cultural tourism.  Consequently, Ubud also functions as strategic economic income resource for Bali.  The changes in traditional Balinese houses mostly happened because of the need to adapt with socio-cultural context, where local tourists and expatriates come and even stay for longer time.  To accommodate tourist’s needs, Ubud villagers set off to open restaurants, cafes, art galleries, souvenir shops, and travel agents in their houses.  These commercial areas are located in their traditional houses, with modification of rooms or even addition of rooms with other functions.  This research focused on the space transformation to commercial spaces in traditional Balinese houses.  There are abundant philosophical values that have to be conserve in traditional Balinese houses between generations.  Those philosophical values have sacred meanings within its design elements, such as building orientation, building elevation, facades, borders and zoning.  With the addition of commercial places, how do The Ubud people managed to continue their tradition and the values within? Therefore, the main problem that is being researched here is about the collision between the need to adapt to socio-cultural context in the society and the need to conserved cultural traditions in the family and their sacred meanings.   Keywords: human adaptative behaviour; space transformation; traditional house; Ubud

Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelago witha high diversity. As a country with various cultural aspects, Indonesia inherits the most diverse traditional dishes. It is estimated that there are over 5,000 kinds of Indonesian dishes. In 2012 the Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), has launched 30 culinary icons that best represent Indonesia's best culinary assets. The recipes of the 30 Indonesian culinary icons and their complicated cooking stages need to be documented into a handbook. This handbook will indirectly introduce the culinary of Indonesia more broadly, even internationally. Influenced by the modern lifestyle, the Indonesian younger generation is currently more interested in the culinary of foreign countries rather than the local one. They have not admitted the Indonesian cuisine as their pride. Some books that introduce 30 Indonesian culinary icons have been published, but to further enrich the literature, another book about 30 Indonesian culinary icons is designed with styles and visuals different from the previous ones. The book is designed in a journal style to resemble a cooking record, with the incorporation of illustrations and photography. The design is also equipped by supporting medias such as booklets, websites, social media accounts, and the medias neededfor book launching. It is expected that through this design, the younger generation will become more interested and proud of Indonesia's unique cuisine as one of the cultural heritage. Keywords: culinary icon; illustration; indonesia; recipe book; young generation.

Abstract

Southern Garut is one of the potential tourist attractions in the Garut region. On the way to southern Garut, tourists will be able to enjoy wonderful sceneries, such as the mountain, waterfall, and beach. The local government supports the tourism by fixing the route to this southern area. Nevertheless, it is not a well-known area so that it rarely becomes a destination of the tourists. One effort to introduce Southern Garut to Javanese urban society is through the creation of a coffee table book design (print book and e-book). This book will reveal the sides of Southern Garut rarely visited by the Javanese urban society. This book may become a representation of Southern Garut so that the target audience can see its beauty, and in the end they would decide to make it their destination. Design created is based on the concept derived from the data analysis collected through field observation, structured & unstructured interviews, and questionnaires to 100 respondents. The literature study was also used to support the data obtained from the field. The photographs in this book are the chief medium, which will show the pictures of Southern Garut landscape. This book is meant to become a means of information for those who have not yet enjoyed the beauty of Southern Garut. Keywords: coffee-table book; southern Garut; tourism

Abstract

communication carried through the same advertising message is expected to help consumers easily recognize the brand anywhere. This strategy is also useful in reducing advertising cost because they don’t have to redesign new advertisements for different countries. Pepsi “Rising” TV Commercial was created by CLM BBDO Paris Agency as the Pepsi global advertising for Africa, Caribbean Sea, Central America, South America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia (India). The advertisements for other countries were only shortened and dubbed to make them fit with local languages. However, for the Chinese market, the agency changed the actor and some storyline attributes with those similar to the original ones. They used one global advertisement for many countries, but they deliberately changed it for the Chinese market. This study uses Roland Barthes’ semiotic to analyze the connotation level between the Pepsi global advertisement and the Chinese advertisement that have similar visuals and plot lines in the denotation level. This study aims to determine the elements that can change the message and ideology in the advertisement. The final results show significant differences among the advertisements that represent each unique cultural development.                   Keywords: adapted advertising; Chinese advertising; global advertising; individualism-collectivism; semiotic analysis
