Abstract

Hypertension is a leading contributor to morbidity and mortality in Indonesia and is influenced by multiple factors, including lifestyle and dietary patterns. Regular physical activity, such as older-adult exercise (senam lansia), may help counter functional decline and support blood pressure control. This study aimed to examine the effect of senam lansia on blood pressure among older adults with hypertension. A pre–post experimental design was used, with blood pressure measured before and after the exercise program at the Nusa Indah community health post (Posyandu). The mean pre-exercise systolic blood pressure was 159.75 mmHg and decreased to 153.45 mmHg after the intervention. The mean diastolic blood pressure declined from 101.15 mmHg pre-exercise to 94.85 mmHg post-exercise. Statistical testing indicated a significant effect of senam lansia on blood pressure among hypertensive older adults. In conclusion, senam lansia was effective in reducing blood pressure in older adults with hypertension at Posyandu Nusa Indah, Rejomulyo Village, Palas District, South Lampung Regency.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which a pregnant woman is iron-deficient or has a hemoglobin level ≤ 11 g/dL. The third trimester is the final stage of pregnancy (29–40 weeks), during which fetal growth continues, and the body prepares for delivery. This study aimed to examine the relationship between pregnancy history and energy intake and the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. An analytical survey with a cross-sectional design was used, and the chi-square test was applied. The study was conducted in the service area of the Johan Pahlawan Public Health Centre (Puskesmas Johan Pahlawan) from October to December 2023. The study population included 32 pregnant women, and a total sampling was used. The results showed no association between pregnancy history and anemia risk; however, energy intake was significantly associated with anemia risk among pregnant women in the Johan Pahlawan Public Health Centre service area, West Aceh Regency. To reduce anemia prevalence, healthcare workers are encouraged to provide pregnancy-related information to improve pregnant women's knowledge of anemia and to engage village health cadres in delivering pregnancy health education.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program aims to improve children’s nutrition and learning outcomes. However, large-scale implementation faces food safety challenges leading to foodborne illness outbreaks in Indonesia. This narrative literature review examined the relationship between nutritious meal programs and food safety risks and identified preventive measures for safer school feeding. Searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, and Google Scholar using keywords related to food safety, foodborne illness, school feeding, and nutritious meals. Studies were grouped into three themes: nutritional impact, contamination risks, and prevention. Nutritious meal programs reduce stunting and improve school attendance, yet inadequate hygiene and weak supervision remain major causes of food poisoning. Key contaminants include Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, and Bacillus cereus, associated with poor sanitation, improper storage, and untrained food handlers. The effectiveness of nutritious meal programs depends on robust food safety systems, including hygiene enforcement, regular audits, food handler training, and coordinated government oversight.

Abstract

Fever in toddlers is common and can lead to complications such as febrile seizures when not managed appropriately; therefore, mothers' knowledge as primary caregivers is a key factor in ensuring accurate fever management at home. This study aimed to examine the association between mothers' knowledge level and fever management practices among toddlers in Gampong Blang Neuang, Beutong Subdistrict, Nagan Raya Regency. A quantitative approach was used with an analytic survey and a cross-sectional design. The sample included 58 respondents selected using accidental (convenience) sampling. Data were collected from May 28 to June 5, 2025, and analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results showed a significant association between mothers' knowledge and toddlers' fever management. These findings underscore the importance of improving mothers' knowledge to help prevent fever-related complications. Therefore, families and village-level health providers should strengthen parent education through counseling sessions or educational meetings on appropriate fever management.
