Abstract

Hypertension is a leading contributor to morbidity and mortality in Indonesia and is influenced by multiple factors, including lifestyle and dietary patterns. Regular physical activity, such as older-adult exercise (senam lansia), may help counter functional decline and support blood pressure control. This study aimed to examine the effect of senam lansia on blood pressure among older adults with hypertension. A pre–post experimental design was used, with blood pressure measured before and after the exercise program at the Nusa Indah community health post (Posyandu). The mean pre-exercise systolic blood pressure was 159.75 mmHg and decreased to 153.45 mmHg after the intervention. The mean diastolic blood pressure declined from 101.15 mmHg pre-exercise to 94.85 mmHg post-exercise. Statistical testing indicated a significant effect of senam lansia on blood pressure among hypertensive older adults. In conclusion, senam lansia was effective in reducing blood pressure in older adults with hypertension at Posyandu Nusa Indah, Rejomulyo Village, Palas District, South Lampung Regency.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which a pregnant woman is iron-deficient or has a hemoglobin level ≤ 11 g/dL. The third trimester is the final stage of pregnancy (29–40 weeks), during which fetal growth continues, and the body prepares for delivery. This study aimed to examine the relationship between pregnancy history and energy intake and the incidence of anemia among pregnant women. An analytical survey with a cross-sectional design was used, and the chi-square test was applied. The study was conducted in the service area of the Johan Pahlawan Public Health Centre (Puskesmas Johan Pahlawan) from October to December 2023. The study population included 32 pregnant women, and a total sampling was used. The results showed no association between pregnancy history and anemia risk; however, energy intake was significantly associated with anemia risk among pregnant women in the Johan Pahlawan Public Health Centre service area, West Aceh Regency. To reduce anemia prevalence, healthcare workers are encouraged to provide pregnancy-related information to improve pregnant women's knowledge of anemia and to engage village health cadres in delivering pregnancy health education.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program aims to improve children’s nutrition and learning outcomes. However, large-scale implementation faces food safety challenges leading to foodborne illness outbreaks in Indonesia. This narrative literature review examined the relationship between nutritious meal programs and food safety risks and identified preventive measures for safer school feeding. Searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, and Google Scholar using keywords related to food safety, foodborne illness, school feeding, and nutritious meals. Studies were grouped into three themes: nutritional impact, contamination risks, and prevention. Nutritious meal programs reduce stunting and improve school attendance, yet inadequate hygiene and weak supervision remain major causes of food poisoning. Key contaminants include Salmonella spp., Escherichia coli, and Bacillus cereus, associated with poor sanitation, improper storage, and untrained food handlers. The effectiveness of nutritious meal programs depends on robust food safety systems, including hygiene enforcement, regular audits, food handler training, and coordinated government oversight.

Abstract

Fever in toddlers is common and can lead to complications such as febrile seizures when not managed appropriately; therefore, mothers' knowledge as primary caregivers is a key factor in ensuring accurate fever management at home. This study aimed to examine the association between mothers' knowledge level and fever management practices among toddlers in Gampong Blang Neuang, Beutong Subdistrict, Nagan Raya Regency. A quantitative approach was used with an analytic survey and a cross-sectional design. The sample included 58 respondents selected using accidental (convenience) sampling. Data were collected from May 28 to June 5, 2025, and analyzed using the Chi-square test. The results showed a significant association between mothers' knowledge and toddlers' fever management. These findings underscore the importance of improving mothers' knowledge to help prevent fever-related complications. Therefore, families and village-level health providers should strengthen parent education through counseling sessions or educational meetings on appropriate fever management.

Abstract

Waste is one of the important problems in this modern era. Waste that is not treated properly can pollute the environment. Antioxidants are compounds that can neutralize and fight free radicals by inhibiting the occurrence of oxidants in body cells, thereby reducing oxidation and cell damage. This research aimed to determine the results of phytochemical screening and the potential as an antioxidant of coconut dregs (cocos nucifera L.). This research is laboratory experimental research; the research method is a qualitative method. The research was carried out in 2 stages, namely stage 1, the simplicia pollination stage, and stage 2, the extraction process. Coconut dregs were extracted using the maceration method with 96% ethanol solvent in a ratio of 1:10 for 3 days. Screening test by adding 1-3 drops of reagent to each extract. Antioxidant testing using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with DPPH reagent with butanol: acetic acid: water (BAA) eluent in a ratio of (6:2:2), which produces a pale-yellow color after being sprayed with DPPH reagent. The result of the phytochemil screening showed a positive reaction for the content of Flavonoids, Alkaline compounds, Saponins, and a negative reaction for the content of Tanins and triterpenoid/ steroid compounds. From this research, it can be concluded that 3 groups of compounds were found in coconut dregs.

Abstract

Providing healthy and nutritious food is an important factor in supporting family food security and the nutritional status of household members. In Cot Darat Village, Samatiga District, West Aceh Regency, limited family income is suspected to affect households' ability to meet diverse and nutritious food needs. This study aims to describe family income and patterns of providing healthy and nutritious food in households with toddlers. The study used a descriptive design with a survey approach. The study population consisted of 70 fathers of toddlers, with a sample of 41 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. Family income data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed univariately. The results showed that 78.04% of families had incomes below Rp3,165,000. Family food expenditures consisted of side dishes (38%), staple foods (20%), fruits (15%), spices (14%), and vegetables (13%). Most families still have low incomes, which potentially impacts the provision of healthy and nutritious food. The results of this study can be a basis for the government and community in improving efforts to empower families' economies and fulfill household nutritional needs.

Abstract

Acute abdominal pain is a common complaint in pediatric and adolescent patients, frequently encountered in the emergency department, with acute appendicitis being the primary cause. However, the diagnosis of appendicitis in adolescents is often challenging due to atypical clinical presentations, potentially leading to delayed treatment. This case report describes a 15-year-old female patient with complaints of right lower abdominal pain lasting for one week, accompanied by fever and nausea. Physical examination revealed tenderness at McBurney's point and a positive Rovsing's sign. Laboratory results showed leukocytosis with neutrophilia, microcytic hypochromic anemia, and increased prothrombin time and INR. The patient underwent open appendectomy under general anesthesia, and postoperative care included pain management and antibiotics. Monitoring of vital signs and surgical wound condition was performed well. This case report emphasizes the importance of a comprehensive clinical diagnostic approach to acute abdominal pain in adolescents, early detection of acute appendicitis to prevent serious complications such as perforation and sepsis, and optimal postoperative follow-up to speed recovery.

Abstract

This review evaluated the role of sentinel lymph node mapping in early-stage gynecologic cancers, cervical, endometrial, and vulvar, as a staging approach that balanced diagnostic accuracy and patient safety. The search methods assembled evidence from major clinical trials and cohort studies on detection performance, diagnostic accuracy, and surgical morbidity compared with systematic lymphadenectomy. The findings indicated that this mapping achieved high detection rates with adequate sensitivity and reduced operative time, blood loss, and risks of lymphedema, lymphocele, and neurovascular injury. In cervical and endometrial cancer, multicenter and prospective studies demonstrated comparable oncologic safety alongside lower postoperative complications, whereas in vulvar cancer, a strategy based on a negative sentinel node reduced groin morbidity without compromising disease control in selected lesions. Tracer approaches, including radioisotopes, blue dye, and indocyanine green fluorescence, together with enhanced assessment through in-depth histopathology, supported broad clinical adoption. Overall, this review concluded that sentinel lymph node mapping was appropriate for routine use in suitable cases, provided bilateral mapping and standardized pathological evaluation.
