Abstract

Ischialgia ec piriformis syndrome is a disorder of the ischiadicus nerve in the form of pain radiating from the buttocks through the hamstrings to the feet. This case arises mainly due to shortening of the piriformis muscle so that it suppresses the sciatic nerve. Physiotherapy as a health worker plays a role in treating ischialgia cases where nerve mobilization technology in this case has not been widely implemented. The objectives of the study was to determine the effectiveness of nerve mobilization after being given standard therapy. Research subjects: Patients who were treated at Sunafa with complaints of ischialgia ec piriformis syndrome who met the study criteria. This study is experimental research in the form of a two group pre and post test design, place at Sunafa Physiotherapy practice from March to May 2023. Subjects were divided into 2 groups by lottery, namely group I as many as 18 research subjects received standard therapy treatment and nerve mobilization and group II as many as 17 research subjects received standard therapy treatment. VAS of both groups, namely initial and final VAS. In group I, the initial VAS averaged 68.61mm and the final VAS averaged 8.83mm. In group II, the initial VAS was 61.53 mm and the final VAS was 10.67 mm. Data analysis results shows that data normality test for group I initial VAS p=0.128 (p>0.05), final VAS p=0.04 (p<0.05), in group II initial VAS p=0.098 (p>0.05) and final VAS p=0.005 ( p<0.05). So the initial VAS data for the two groups were normally distributed and the final VAS data for the two groups were not normally distributed, so the data was tested non-parametric. The results of the data homogeneity test obtained p=0.049 (p<0.05) meaning that the data was not homogeneous. Group I Wilcoxon test obtained p=0.000 (p<0.001). Group II Wilcoxon test obtained p=0.000 (p<0.001). The Mann-Whitney test between groups I and II found p=0.284 (p>0.05). There was an effect of standard therapy and nerve mobilization on reducing ischilagia pain ec piriformis syndrome (p=0.00), there was an effect of standard therapy on reducing ischilagia pain ec piriformis syndrome (p=0.00), there was no difference in the effect between standard therapy and nerve mobilization with standard therapy alone in reducing ischialgia pain ec piriformis syndrome (p>0.05), standard therapy and nerve mobilization were as effective as standard therapy alone in reducing pain ischialgia ec piriformis syndrome. The conclusion of this study is standard therapy and nerve mobilization are as effective as standard therapy alone in reducing sciatic pain ec piriformis syndrome.

Abstract

Carpal tunnel syndrome is an extremity disorder caused by narrowing of the carpal tunnel resulting in pressure on the median nerve at the wrist. The occurrence of irritation of the median nerve that causes tingling and numbness of the thumb, index, and middle fingers due to swelling or a change in the position of the tissue in the carpal tunnel compresses and irritates the median nerve. The process of working cigarette factory workers to pack cigarettes using traditional manual work methods by hand, can cause complaints of carpal tunnel syndrome. So, the purpose of this research is to find out how the effect of Kinesio Taping and Deep Transverse Friction with Carpal tunnel syndrome in the Packaging Section of a Cigarette Factory. This study was a quasi experimental research on the effect and symptoms of Kinesio Taping and Deep Transverse Friction for Carpal tunnel syndrome cases. Kinesio Taping stabilizes muscles, joints and improves blood circulation thereby reducing pain. Deep Transverse Friction increases range of motion reducing pain. The research subjects were all cigarette packaging workers who have Carpal tunnel syndrome case, totaling 20 people. Measurements to assess the pain scale using Boston Carpal tunnel syndrome. The results of the test of the effect of Kinesio Taping and Deep Transverse Friction showed by the p-value = 0.005 and 0,000 (p<0.05), so there are reducing pain in Kinesio Taping groups and Deep Transverse Friction groups. But there was not different of Kinesio Taping groups and Deep Transverse Friction groups on reducing carpal tunnel syndrome pain, showed by the p-value = 1,000 (p>0,005). The conclusion of this study, there is a significant relationship between Kinesio Taping and Deep Transverse Friction on reducing carpal tunnel syndrome pain in workers at the Djarum cigarette factory, but was not different of Kinesio Taping groups and Deep Transverse Friction groups on reducing pain.

Abstract

Anemia continues to pose a serious global health concern and is particularly widespread in developing countries such as Indonesia. Adolescent girls face a heightened risk of iron deficiency anemia due to menstrual blood loss, which leads to nearly double the iron depletion experienced by boys. Video-based educational interventions provide an accessible means of improving young people’s knowledge and attitudes toward anemia prevention. This study examined the effect of animated educational videos on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls regarding anemia. A total of 71 participants were involved, and data collection took place in June 2025 using a structured questionnaire assessing knowledge and attitudes toward anemia. Univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted, and the Wilcoxon test was applied to determine changes before and after the intervention. The results showed significant improvements in both knowledge and attitudes after participants viewed the animated video. These findings indicate that animated video education is an effective strategy for strengthening adolescents’ understanding and fostering positive attitudes toward anemia prevention. Health workers are encouraged to expand the use of video-based health promotion to support anemia prevention initiatives among young people.

Abstract

The Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 6 (TRPM6) gene plays a central role in intestinal magnesium absorption and renal reabsorption. Genetic polymorphisms in TRPM6, particularly rs2274924, have been linked to altered magnesium transport, hypomagnesemia, and increased susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This narrative review synthesizes current findings on the interaction between TRPM6 genetic variants and dietary magnesium in relation to glucose regulation and insulin resistance. A structured literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science to identify observational and interventional studies exploring TRPM6 polymorphisms, magnesium status, and metabolic outcomes. Evidence consistently shows that magnesium is essential for enzymatic processes in glycolysis, ATP production, and insulin secretion, and that deficiency impairs β-cell function, glucose uptake, and insulin signaling. Several studies indicate that individuals—particularly women—harboring the rs2274924 variant may exhibit greater metabolic vulnerability when habitual magnesium intake is insufficient, while adequate intake appears to reduce this genetic risk. By summarizing evidence across molecular, nutritional, and clinical perspectives, this review highlights the importance of TRPM6–magnesium interactions and their potential implications for personalized nutrition and diabetes prevention strategies.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using an educational fan as a health promotion medium on improving patients' knowledge about Diabetes Mellitus. The background of this research was based on the low level of patients' understanding regarding self-management of Diabetes Mellitus, which contributes to poor treatment adherence and increased risk of complications. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 30 patients with Diabetes Mellitus were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention was conducted by providing health education through an educational fan containing visual messages and brief texts about diet management, physical activity, and medication adherence. These findings indicate that the educational fan is an effective, simple, and attractive health promotion tool for enhancing patients' knowledge of Diabetes Mellitus management.

Abstract

The relationship between coffee consumption and hypertension remains controversial, with studies reporting neutral, harmful, or protective effects. Understanding this association is particularly relevant in Indonesia, where coffee consumption is culturally prevalent, and hypertension is a leading public health concern. A 58-year-old male presented for a routine health examination and was found to have Stage 1–2 hypertension (168/83 mmHg), despite being asymptomatic with no risk factors. His daily intake included two cups of coffee. Despite initial lifestyle modifications, including sodium restriction, his blood pressure remained elevated, necessitating pharmacological therapy. A structured literature search was conducted using PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane Library databases. Two systematic reviews and meta-analyses were performed using the defined PICO criteria and the PRISMA methodology. One review reported no significant association between caffeine intake and hypertension (RR: 0.97, 95% CI: 0.90–1.05), while another found a modest inverse relationship at higher coffee consumption levels (RR: 0.97, 95% CI: 0.94–0.99). Moderate habitual coffee consumption does not appear to increase hypertension risk and may have protective cardiovascular effects.
