Abstract

The development of digital hadith studies demands methodological updates in the practice of takhrīj al-Ḥadīṡ, especially when dealing with a large-scale, multi-layered, and editorially heterogeneous corpus of classical hadith texts. Conventional takhrīj approaches that rely on manual book searches and thematic indexes show limitations in efficiency, consistency, and the ability to systematically manage the complexity of sanad and matan variations. This study aims to develop and test a digital takhrīj al-Ḥadīṡ method through structured corpus-based sanad–matan extraction compiled from classical hadith manuscripts. The research method uses a qualitative-analytical approach with the integration of digital text processing on a curated hadith corpus, including the stages of text normalization, sanad–matn segmentation, mapping of narrator relationships, and verification of transmission patterns based on the rules of hadith science. The results show that the developed method can reconstruct the sanad–matn structure more explicitly and consistently, identify the boundaries of sanad and matan with a high degree of accuracy, and trace variations in editorial and transmission paths comparatively across sources. Digital extraction demonstrates its effectiveness in accelerating the takhrīj process, reducing data redundancy, and improving the traceability of sanads without violating the basic principles of hadith criticism. The level of conformity of digital methods with the principles of hadith science is reflected in its ability to maintain the hierarchy of narrators, continuity of transmission, and differentiation of matan redactions. Implicatively, this study confirms the methodological contribution of digital takhrīj al-Ḥadīṡ as a complementary approach that broadens the horizon of contemporary hadith analysis, strengthens research accuracy, and opens up opportunities for the integration of hadith science with digital corpus studies more systematically and sustainably.

Abstract

Contemporary hadith studies often face methodological challenges in connecting classical hadith texts to modern humanitarian issues, particularly in the discourse of social justice and human rights, without neglecting the scientific rigor of hadith. The classical takhrīj al-Ḥadīṡ approach, which focuses on verifying the sanad and matan, is often considered to not fully address the need for contextual reading of contemporary social dynamics. However, to date, there are still limited methodological models that systematically integrate takhrīj rigor with issue-based analysis. Therefore, this article aims to formulate and test the issue-based takhrīj al-Ḥadīṡ model as an alternative methodological framework in contemporary hadith studies. This study uses a qualitative approach with library research methods. Data were analyzed descriptively and analytically through the stages of issue identification, thematic classification of hadith, sanad and matan analysis, and applied synthesis. The results show that the issue-based takhrīj model is able to systematically map hadith based on specific social problems while maintaining the validity of transmission and consistency of the text’s meaning. The implementation of this model on hadiths about collective responsibility in preventing injustice and the principle of universal compassion demonstrates the relevance of Islamic values in building awareness of social justice and protecting human dignity. In conclusion, the issue-based takhrīj al-Ḥadīṡ model is effective as a methodological approach that bridges the tradition of classical hadith criticism with the need for contextual and applicable hadith readings in addressing contemporary humanitarian challenges.

Abstract

The phenomenon of the interpretation of Surah al-Inshirah verse 7 has tended to stop at a normative reading that emphasizes the transition from one activity to another without a deeper conceptual exploration of the sustainability of charity in human life. This tendency has implications for an understanding of charity that is temporary, fragmentary, and less integrated with social dynamics and the ethos of sustainability. This paper aims to reconstruct the meaning of sustainable charity in Surah al-Inshirah verse 7 through a study of Nusantara interpretations by examining M. Quraish Shihab’s Tafsir Al-Mishbah and Hamka’s Tafsir Al-Azhar. The approach used is a qualitative one based on literature studies by making both interpretations as the main data sources, while the analysis technique is carried out comparatively critically to identify similarities, differences, and the direction of meaning developed by each interpreter. The results of the study indicate a shift in the meaning of charity from merely a momentary activity of worship or work to the principle of dynamic, progressive, and continuous charity, where each achievement is not understood as an endpoint, but rather as a momentum to give birth to the next, more meaningful charity. The interpretation of al-Mishbah emphasizes the psychological and ethical dimensions of the sustainability of charity, while the interpretation of Al-Azhar emphasizes its correlation with social responsibility and productive work. This reconstruction shows that Surah al-Inshirah verse 7 contains a paradigm of sustainable charity that is relevant to the modern context. Theoretically, this finding enriches the development of the study of Al-Quranic interpretation by strengthening the conceptual framework of sustainable charity as the basis for adaptive and contextual practical ethics.

Abstract

The study of family relations in the Quran has conceptual significance because the family verses not only represent personal relationships, but also contain constructions of authority, social ethics, and cooperation patterns that impact the formation of social order. Surah Ṭāhā verses 29–32, which record the Prophet Moses’ request regarding Aaron’s role as a companion and strengthener of the mission, becomes an important locus for reading the differences in classical and contemporary interpretive approaches in interpreting family relations. The purpose of this study is to comparatively analyze the construction of family relations, the distribution of authority, and the dimensions of social ethics in Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī and Tafsīr al-Munīr to identify the shift in interpretive paradigms. The method used is a qualitative study based on a literature study with a comparative analysis approach of interpretations, using Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī as a representation of classical interpretation based on riwāyah and Tafsīr al-Munīr as a representation of contemporary interpretation that is integrative and contextual. The analysis shows that Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī constructs family relations within the framework of the legitimacy of prophetic authority and functional-instrumental kinship, with an emphasis on the sanad of narration and initial consensus as determinants of meaning. In contrast, Tafsīr al-Munīr constructs family relations as a model of ethical collaboration that emphasizes competence, communication, and social responsibility, so that the relationship between Musa and Harun is understood as a prototype of participatory leadership relevant to the modern social context. This difference reflects the epistemological transformation from normative-historical interpretation to normative-contextual interpretation, while also confirming the contribution of this study to the development of Quranic exegesis studies in reading family verses dynamically and in layers.
